British mum’s dengue fever warning after son’s Thai holiday tragedy
digbeth replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
If you're not used to the tropics, you might leave windows open and let all sorts of insects in hotels rarely has bug screen for aesthetic reasons -
was the high insurance premiums on teslas still due to the previous gray-market imports with the full import tax and then the grey-dealers even had some parts in they imported themselves with very high markup even if the owners of thai market teslas went to these dealers for parts like replacement windows due to the long wait from official tesla shops, this shouldn't affect insurance companies at all as they probably wouldn't approve repairs like that it's been almost 2 years since Teslas start selling officially in Thailan, why's the insurance on teslas still high

sorry, yes it's a paid holiday - same as paid sick leave and annual leave that's normal in Thailand i forgot that it's paid as in no deduction if you take the day off What I meant was that you don't get paid extras 1.5 times the normal rate if you have to come to work on that day, otherwise you can take the day off with no deduction from your normal salary - a paid holiday if you consider it like that

Non-Vintage Champage like Moet and Veuve clicquot are now around 2000 baht as opposed to 4000+ or before, some old stock of other labels are still at the old price -
Travel card - What is it?
digbeth replied to ravip's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
For thai travel cards (thai citizens going overseas) some cards give better than standard visa/mastercard rates but only for certain currency, and some even let you 'exchange' in advance of travels by buying the currency, working like a multi-currency account -
only if you work on those days or the holiday coincides with your regular 'off' day

Calling all you car experts out there
digbeth replied to piston broke's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
If you think you can get a better deal on them compared to Hondas and Toyotas, and can stand to walk away from them being unable to be repaired economically, go ahead, there's a reason even 2nd hand dealer will lowball or outright refuses to buy MGs the Fiesta's gearbox is also pretty horrendous, but some do turn out fine -
mobile skips they might even pay to get rid of it for you

Finally seeing some price lowered in store shelves, Some French Champagne are now 2,000 baht compared to around 4000+ of before, last time prices were this low must be decades back but now some brands are still holding on to the old price (old stock maybe?) nothing on Australian wines or Scotch and other hard spirits yet

Motorbike Ban in Pattaya Underpass Sparks Heated Debate
digbeth replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
the law was from an era where the bikes are slow to accelerate and would be a hindrance on slope such as bridges modern bikes handles these overpass and underpasses just fine but bikes filtering between cars can be a problem, in Bangkok, the overpasses can be narrow with no shoulders, sure if traffic is slow enough or at standstill there's no danger -
Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service
digbeth replied to ravip's topic in IT and Computers
Are you sure this is 4g as in connected via sim card (mobile phone) rather than through a fiberoptic cable? some package come with sim card you can use on the phone and tablet when out and about as well and might be labelled '4g' as such 2gig down and 1 up sounds like wired broadband package, usually the provider, 3BB, AIS will provide appropriate router unless you ask for a package with no router to use your own, which is really for people who knows what they're doing -
while the criminal justice system here can be lacking or in need of *lubrications* to get going this is Thailand, there are other other avenues available to you, you know who the perpetrator are, you know their schedule, how they go and leave school.... befriending the police would help your case and allow you to get away with 2nd option here

Installing 2 electricity meters at same house.
digbeth replied to scorecard's topic in The Electrical Forum
latest report from PEA area that used to allow 2nd meter to be TOU while the 'main' house meter is on standard tariff seem to be that they'll no longer allow this, nothing official yet only benefits of getting 2nd meter will now to simplify your cabling if you don't want to run the EV charger through the existing house's consumer unit -
Where do gays retire (other than Thailand)?
digbeth replied to Jingthing's topic in Gay People in Thailand
this is a thread about selecting countries that would make life easy for gay couples, if you can be in counties/state that recognize same-sex marriage, you don't need to appoint anyone, less paperwork to worry about even for appointed medical decision maker, thailand allows and has clear procedure, the Philippines don't and you might have to resort to signing power of attorney before going to the hospital, or adopting your partner -
Where do gays retire (other than Thailand)?
digbeth replied to Jingthing's topic in Gay People in Thailand
It's not about doctors, but the law, this is very relevant to retired people who might encounter if you are not recognized as a husband/partner or even next of kin when your same sex partner is in hospital and requires relatives to make a decision and you don't get to decide what procedure. And no, the hospital won't break the countries law and let what appear to be random 'friend' decide to turn off life support or whatever -
you either negotiated with the neighbors to amicably compensate him to allow you access through his land, and have that recorded in his chanote or by law you can sue for access due to being landlocked, the compulsory right of way in this case could be only wide enough to only allow walking through, doesn't need to be wide enough for cars to be able to go through if you can't proof the needs, and in this case where you sue to 'open' his land, you still have to compensate him for the roads

True cable and satellite is dead, they'd rather pull in internet cable and give you an IPTV box with their channels which works over the internet, selling you the internet package and the tv subscription there are true boxes you can plug into your existing dish that gives you some channels, but not as much as the paid channels you had on true gold/platinum tier as before if your TV has digital tuner, it should be able to pick up all the thai digtal terresterial channels through the aerial without need for any box or extra remote

It's next door's land that will have an easment/right of way recorded on their chanot that's more problematic, bank wouldn't normally mortgage chanote that's got easment recorded on the back, as that has made the chanote become less of value than before/guide price Anyone buying a landlock land would/would not buy on the fact of being landlocked alone and you'd have to show that you've negotiated easment with the neighbors

Having only seen smaller projects in the past where a building on land was titled as condo, with connected common property like a pool and underground carpark this is the first time that I saw a major developer got a semi-detached/terraced housing under condo title, meaning foreigner quota must be available, this development seem to use the common carpark as grounds to classify this as a condo granted this project looks a bit low rent and I wouldn't want to sit on my 'balcony' across from the minimum wage Thai that would be hosting the block party next door or across, plus all the washing that will be hanging in the 'hallway' looks only half a step up from government housing what would make this work on a higher end? a golf course or a park being the common area? https://www.pruksa.com/baan-greenhaus/ransitstation-workpoint?utm_medium=paidsearch&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=h-pv-031-4-hrlt-search-cpa-text&utm_content=apr-dec24-blank&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwgdayBhBQEiwAXhMxtvJi7dydwsZ79qcqJXrZf-dT7gPDMhOyOxcgQlsZYt57xvtIeprM8RoCUJMQAvD_BwE&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR3DEAz0s1XxUksXJR-bc1tkFXcZ3w4T2ZAA361m7Dxo3ljkb-yidaATugw_aem_AbWRBRtvu4nh8HAvYiOWTjwUUah5Gm-4e-dRTKGsQzq4tSOVOp-2whFtEEZZpdZPY9RmzPcxy9NnqpvNtbVrdVqE Would you americans call this Strata-titled?

After seeing thai builders only insist on certain brands of cables, I've noticed that the actual cross section of certain *off brand* cables are smaller than the more expensive brands

Where do gays retire (other than Thailand)?
digbeth replied to Jingthing's topic in Gay People in Thailand
If you have the means to regularly fly back to 'home' or wherever the culture is, a lot of place become more bearable, like Jomtien if you can say fly to Melbourne for the theater and cafe every now and then but then does living half a year in 'cheaper' place save you significant amount to be noticeable? assuming that you won't rent out your house 'back home' -
Where do gays retire (other than Thailand)?
digbeth replied to Jingthing's topic in Gay People in Thailand
I usually don't frequent the gay subforums, it's good that this got on the sidebar on the front page, my question is: if the host country don't recognize same-gender union, would they honor the rights of partners/next of kin from your 'home' country or does having a valid will solves most of the problem? or even with a will, there's still case of hospitalizations/incapacity would they let your partner decide if they don't recognize your marriage -

New Mobile Banking Rules Aim to Curb 'Horse' Accounts
digbeth replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
For prepaid sim card, the more stringent rules on requiring photos of the person as well as copy of ID starts July 2015 so if you bought your sim before that, chances are the sim is registered with the shop's owner or workers or random person ID, which should have been deactivated by now, or chances are that the 7-11 workers or whoever that sold you the sim card didn't bother dealing with you and and registered it to their ID/photo so yeah, they already has your ID, or worse your phone number is registered to a random Thai -
