  1. What is so silly about this is that it is Thai law that you have a Thai bank account to obtain certain permission to stay(extensions). So for a retirement extension it is Thai law that you are not allowed to work and that you need a Thai bank account. Why is it so hard for the banks to understand this? I don't know if printing this out and showing it to them would help? (probably not)
  2. A person I know was able to open an account with SCB recently but had to go to the main branch in Bangkok. Lots of other banks/branches had turned him down. He came in visa exempt but had got a 60 day extension to visit his wife(my niece).
  3. My first bank account was with SCB. I did enter Thailand on an O-A visa. But to do the first annual extension I of course needed a Thai bank account. I live in a smaller town with very few farang. When I went in to open the account they asked me for a work permit. I told them on my visa I am not allowed to work but I am required to have a bank account for it. They still didn't want to open it. Eventually I got them to call the main office and after they talked to them they opened the account for me. Immigration should have some letter for you to give to the bank stating you need to open an account.
  4. The wife and I don't eat at places that have precooked food. You know they never throw the old stuff away and just keep bringing the same stuff out and adding more to it when needed.
  5. You answered your own question. They have no intention of competing for fares.
  6. If he does have a permit for the gun it should be taken away. People like this should not be allowed to own guns. Not that it would stop him from getting one illegally I guess. But it would be another charge if he did it in the future. What is really bad is that he has done this previously and apparently nothing happened to him.

  8. One of the things I like about Thailand is not being a social welfare state.
  9. Now they are blurring out the back of heads too... (from the original article)
  10. Looking at the Carryboy website I can not find any canopies for just plain 2 door trucks. The only ones I see that they sell for 2 door trucks are meant for carrying passengers in the back.
  11. The thing is even if you order cash on delivery they will not let you open it before paying.
  12. I think I would have tried harder to get out of the road. He's lucky someone didn't plow into him and kill him.
  13. It's probably all part of the process of weaning everyone into a cashless society. Instead of just thrusting it on us and people complaining.
  14. Where I live they used to come twice a week. Since about 4 years ago it went to once a week.
