  1. Correct. That's what I said. However, a language school can insist on anything they like before they employ a TEFL teacher, and all "good" language schools, like the British Council, Wall Street, Westminster, etc, require a TEFL qualification and usually it has to be a CELTA, Trinity or equivalent.
  2. I had it done at PDA in soi 12 Bangkok. They're not strict about 2 kids (I only have one) and I didn't need to show the birth certificate. All done and dusted within an hour. Very efficient and well worth the 5,000 "donation".
  3. Are Islamophobic posts tolerated here? It would seem so!
  4. Then get the appropriate visa/extension, if you meet the requirements. ????
  5. The OP was being interviewed for a job at a language centre, not a government school. If the prospective employer understandably requires a TEFL qualification in order to process the WP for a TEFL job, the OP needs one. It's not a legal requirement, unlike a degree, but if it's required in order to teach legally, it's required!
  6. Thai Immigration use computers...????
  7. Of course Powell was a racist; to suggest otherwise is nonsense. But then so were the vast majority of people who were born and raised in the dying days of the British Empire, Churchill, Mountbatten among them. Times change and these days they are, thankfully, much fewer in number and possible genuine racism is now a rarity.
  8. Fortunately his jingoistic views are very much a thing of the past, Brexit notwithstanding.
  9. Leave it 6 months or so after this visit and you should be fine with visa exempt or a tourist visa. Assuming you are not trying to live in Thailand and the 2 years you were here previously were because you were stranded due to Covid!
  10. She's a global superstar. I'm sure she has homes all over the world. Maybe she'll retire to Buriram when the Blackpink bubble bursts ????
  11. Permanent immigrants to Thailand are required to pass a Thai language test.
  12. Where I live, Lotus's is the main supermarket. It's cheap and usually busy. The frozen salmon is good. Personally, I prefer Tops which is a 5km drive away.
  13. That Thais are all bad and foreigners are perfect.
  14. I'm confused. Are you saying one needs to speak Thai in order to "bed" hi-so career women?
  15. But aren't you just arguing the opposite? There are bad Thais just as there are bad tourists - there are bad people everywhere. Since when does nationality make a difference?
  16. What's not to like? She's Thai and she's a superstar.
  17. There are similar financial requirements for Leave to Remain too.
  18. Hopefully the OP is well aware of that, as being married to a Chinese citizen means a Marriage Extension is impossible!
  19. The income requirements for UK settlement are an annual income of £18,600 or savings of £62,500. All UK income is taxed. Foreign income counts as well, if it meets the threshold.
  20. "They" being Immigration/the government? Not sure there's much incentive in them doing it, unless they can make money out of it. It might be better for them to provide English/Mandarin and other language classes to Immigration/government officials!
  21. Why would the Thai government want to do that?! There's already a basic Thai language test for those wanting Permanent Resident status, extensions are a regular source of revenue and are only valid for one year. Why would anyone want or need to learn a language for a year?
  22. I had similar advice from the UK Embassy when my son had to enter Thailand in 2020 with a UK passport that expired in 4 months. The UK Embassy even tried to suggest that he need an Emergency Travel Document as he would be refused entry at the border. The advice I got on this Forum suggested otherwise, and fortunately I followed this advice and not the Embassy's! He entered Thailand and was stamped in until the expiry date of his Extension, 1 month before his passport was due to expire, leaving plenty of time to get a new passport before then. Embassies are probably issuing such advice over an abundance of caution, as some countries/airlines may require 6 months remaining on a passport, but Thailand is not one of them.
  23. There seems to be a consensus that there is certainly no obligation or duty to learn Thai if you're an expat here. Maybe the thread should be closed as the OP has his/her answer.
  24. I don't think the Rohingya refugees in Thailand have to meet the visa/PR requirements that we do either!
