wise email today?
John Drake replied to proton's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Just logged into my account on the website. No red banner and no message in the notices requiring the photo ID. I don't have the app. Don't want it. Just use the website. I only transfer money from my US bank account to my Thai bank. And btw no email that I noticed. But it could have been lost in spam. -
It will be much closer. Kamala Harris is not all that appealing herself. And most of the country doesn't know what she stands for. But I suspect she will still beat Trump. He just generates hate. People are motivated to vote against him, with a significant minority equally motivated to vote for him. Imagine had the Republicans nominated DeSantis. It would take a Newsom to match up against him. The rest would be wiped out. But, no, the Republicans insisted on Trump. And they were bellowing with triumphalism just a week or so ago. Now, pffft.

Republicans have themselves to blame for this fiasco. They nominated someone who only had a fair to even chance against one person, Biden. Now, Trump is going to be overwhelmed. This man is so hated, he would lose to every other Democrat who is a conceivable nominee. But fine with me. His stated aim to devalue the dollar is enough alone for me to vote for whomever runs against him.

I agree. This is my single issue, and it is why I'm voting against Trump. RFKjr is good on the strong dollar too.

If you live in Thailand and get SSA or other sources of US dollars, Trump intends to take away your money.

A dollar short? Actually, many dollars short if you live in Thailand and bring money from the US into the country. Trump intends to deliberately devalue the dollar. It's going to happen. He did it last time he was in office. Trump intends to cut your income if you're in Thailand on SSA or any other US pension.

Trump's turn to face the age question . . . .
John Drake replied to TorquayFan's topic in Political Soapbox
The only person that Trump could beat? Biden. The only person that Kamala Harris could beat? Trump. -
Trump is hellbent on devaluing the dollar. He will cost me money. Not a matter of if, maybe, or perhaps. He's stated that he's going to do it. Anybody bringing in dollars to Thailand to support themselves will see their income cut under Trump.
-
The British had their own devaluation crisis. And, besides, I don't live in the UK. I live in Thailand, where Trump dumped the exchange rate to below 30.
-
The exchange rate for the dollar was over 35 when Trump took office. He ran it down to below 30.

Fetterman would be the ideal Democratic nominee for me. In no way, shape, or form am I voting for anything Trump-like. And I only need one reason, as does anyone else from the US who is drawing money from the US to support their life in Thailand. That is this: Trump and Vance have said they are eager to devalue the dollar. I now get almost 10 baht to the dollar more than I did under Trump. So my default support goes to anyone who wants to maintain dollar strength. That includes RFKjr: https://bitcoinmagazine.com/culture/rfk-jr-plans-to-back-dollar-with-bitcoin

Trump is the first presidential candidate to achieve the unimaginable. He turned an assassination attempt into a disadvantage. Why the Republicans insisted on nominating this goof is beyond comprehension.

I can't help but feel that this self centered simpering victimhood is going to lose him a lot more votes than he gains from it.

This response is precisely why the graceless oaf will not win in November. He can't do anything with subtlety or quiet dignity.

Expats angry at huge concessions in latest Thai visa announcements
John Drake replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Was thinking the same thing. They're going to get people to ungrandfather themselves. -
I guess the MRT must be different from the BTS. I haven't ridden on either for several years now. But I remember when I hit Thai retirement age and went and asked for the senior pass on the BTS. Supplied them with ID, visa, and work permit. No good. Not Thai. Didn't have an idea that I could have used one on the MRT--apparently until last week.

Ultimately, I don't think there is much Trump would accomplish in a second term. This vanity of his quickly washes away when any hard work is required. Trump is a lazy man who avoids anything that is legislatively difficult. That was his track record during his first term. Four years later, he'll be fatter and lazier than ever.
