Speaking the truth is now a risky business in Britain
Purdey replied to Social Media's topic in World News
It isn't so much the truth I care about, it is that people think they can be as obnoxious as they want and somehow it is their "right". I don't know how the nurse guessed Patient X was a Mister. Maybe she saw his wedding tackle and guessed. -
Paetongtarn Triumphs! Censure Vote No Match for Pheu Thai Power
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
How can people be disgusted that a PM can survive a no confidence vote unless she had done something really evil? No point in blaming her father. Just win the election with an overwhelming majority next time People's Party. -
Thai Tourism Fears Loom as Casino Debate Heats Up
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thailand has fewer billionaires than in the West or China. However, people should worry about increasing gambling because the government has done little to upgrade education here. People see gambling as getting rich without having to work hard. Build the middle class then consider gambling as a form of entertainment. -
Petition for trump ban on U.K. visit gathers votes
Purdey replied to 3NUMBAS's topic in Political Soapbox
Unlike in countries that don't listen to voters, at least petitioners in the UK can force their parliament to debate something important. I understand that the government might need to trade with the USA but except for Nigel Farage I imagine some politicians might not be keen the orange one's visit. Airing voters opinions is good now and then. Unanimity is impossible to achieve anywhere except in dictatorships. -
Why DOGE is Struggling To Find fraud in Social Security

Finding fraud is great! Fraudsters are soooo bad and should be prosecuted under the full weight of the law. How many court cases has DOGE planned for? -
Why DOGE is Struggling To Find fraud in Social Security
Purdey replied to placeholder's topic in Political Soapbox
Finding fraud is fine as long as there is evidence to present the court where the charges are filed. -

British Nationals Face Increased Scrutiny as Thailand Cracks Down on Crime
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The story isn't about British tourists in general it is about the wrong type of tourists - criminals. No point in deflecting to point at Russians and Chinese who are caught in criminal acts (the "whatabout" syndrome) . If British criminals are caught, sling them in prison then kick them out of the country. Why get excited about it? It isn't insulting to honest Brits who visit Thailand without committing a crime. -

Homan Defends Migrant Deportations all Tren de Aragua gang members.
Purdey replied to Social Media's topic in World News
People have reported that some tats were the names of the soccer teams they support. Zero of the guys flown back were proven to be terrorists. Keep it in mind. If you have been to Pattaya, how many girls have tats? All gangbangers in your extra-juridical opinion? -
Homan Defends Migrant Deportations all Tren de Aragua gang members.
Purdey replied to Social Media's topic in World News
First off, they were alleged gang members. No evidence was laid before a court. You just have to believe what you're told. An official with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement acknowledged in a sworn declaration earlier this week that "many" of the noncitizens deported under the Alien Enemies Act did not have criminal records in the United States. https://abcnews.go.com/US/lawyers-deported-trump-administration-gang-members-targeted-tattoos/story?id=119991734 Yup, the authorities caught anyone with a tattoo. Reminds me of all the Asians arrested/taken for questioning, after the Twin Towers attack because immigration couldn't understand that Asians look down when questioned by a higher authority while Westerners look in the eyes. -
Can you be a leftist without also supporting terrorists and criminals?
Purdey replied to hotsun's topic in Political Soapbox
I don't know about others, but I am surprised that those who throw around words like Socialist, Marxist and Communist don't appear to know what those words mean. "I don't like your politics; therefore, you are a communist." I wonder what they teach in schools. -
Can you be a leftist without also supporting terrorists and criminals?
Purdey replied to hotsun's topic in Political Soapbox
This would be an interesting question, if only one knew how many terrorists there are in the USA and EU. I don't count Arabic countries as they are all very conservative (right leaning). In the United States in 2022, 48 percent of Republicans reported that they owned at least one gun, and 66 percent said that they lived in a household with a gun. In comparison, only 20 percent of Democrats owned at least one gun, and 31 percent lived a gun household. Now look at the number in the USA compared to Europe. We could say the potential for armed terrorists in the USA lies with the right, not the left, but of course, this isn't conclusive. -
UK-Thai Trade Relations Reach Turning Point in 170th Year
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
While Thailand was never occupied by a Western power like the U.K. it still ceded land to the British and French. Meanwhile, the economy is run by Chinese immigrants. -
Petition for trump ban on U.K. visit gathers votes
Purdey replied to 3NUMBAS's topic in Political Soapbox
What would it matter if the UK banned Trump? Would he withdraw tariffs? Stop supporting Russia? Then at least they wouldn't have to rebuild his dining chair. -
Chalerm Ubumrung May Join Censure of PM Paetongtarn
Purdey replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
20-30 years ago, there were stories that Chalerm had information on many politicians that could have put them in jail. I think many are dead or retired now so perhaps he doesn't have as much compromising information as he once did. -
It seems the mistakes are building. Trump withdrew the security clearance of Adam Kinzinger. But Adam Kinzinger didn't have a security clearance anyway. Not important but a sign the amateurs are running the country.

For his age, Bernie is sharp as a tack. Let's hope he keeps it up. The US populace may yet have the benefits it deserves.
