What is my best option
Yes the OP doesn't have a bank account. A COR will be required by the bank even with a Non O

That would be the case for extension retirement The OP is doing extensions marriage

Advice needed
Only issue would be the required return date to immigration for final stamp after under consideration period. Also if his immigration office does home visits (marriage extension) As mentioned above he could have pushed it back by 60 days with extension to visit wife. Already August so time is an issue now

Advice needed
Your plan is to enter Thailand Visa exempt. The airline at departure may/will ask for onward flight out of Thailand within 60 days. You won't have that. Immigration at Thai airport may question why previously on extensions from a Non O you are now entering Visa exempt. That won't be an issue as necessary travel was needed. Perhaps you are seeing why I suggested obtaining Non O e-Visa in UK. Should be processed in few days

Advice needed
Enter Visa exempt (it's not a Visa) then apply for Non O as outlined above. AFTER that apply for 12 month extension. BTW you could have applied for 60 day extension to visit wife (if not previously obtain that extension and then purchased a reentry permit. Effectively pushing back your renewal date. (Best option)

Advice needed
Would seem to be poor planning. In any event, yes you can return to Thailand with Visa exempt entry and obtain Non O at local immigration using form TM87. Better option would be to obtain the "new" Non O in UK. Enter Thailand with the Non O (90 day stamp) In last 30 days with 400k having been in bank for 2 months you can apply for 12 month extension. Obviously you do not have a reentry permit so as soon as you exit you are able to apply for the Non O

What is my best option
Suggest he will require a proof of address. Seems Thai wife has been living in UK. He could obtain a COR which would be useful. He has not where he would be living which would be useful info. Would also indicate which immigration office.

What is my best option
OP, some really good advice in posts in this thread. Given the second visit to Thailand is a year plus and perhaps even longer then the obvious solution is extensions based on marriage. Definitely enter Thailand (first trip) with a Non O. The goal is to open bank account. If successful (think you will be) then all good. Proceed with the 12 month extension. If for some reason that is not possible then you have plan B. Use the 90 day stamp from the non O + obtain a 60 day extension to visit wife. Add one border run and your are covered. Do not obtain a METV and enter on that as would perhaps rule out chance of opening bank account. Good luck. It shouldn't be so difficult esp married to a Thai.

One day over stay
Often one day overstay is not be subject to fine. In any event seems you don't have an option. Just accept the overstay if imposed.

TM.30 post TDAC. Anyone doing them?
Quote correctly. I stated "not many reasons folk attend immigration" Very different Requirement for tm30 when return to same address after trip abroad at Jomtien has various reports https://aseannow.com/topic/1357814-jomtien-immigration-tm30-after-returning-to-same-address-from-abroad/

What is my best option
Currently that can be an issue. Even with a Non O you may have trouble opening a Thai bank account. The Non O would give you 90 day stamp. You can also apply for 60 day extension to visit wife. That provides 5 month stay. You can obtain a METV which would provide a stay of up to 9 months. You would need to exit Thailand couple of times... How long is the plan for second visit. It's not clear what your ongoing plan is

Choosing Between DTV and Retirement Visa
Excellent. In that case obtain the Non O eVisa prior to entering Thailand. At some point transfer 800k and then obtain the 12 month extension after the funds have been in bank for 2 months. The Non O will provide 90 day stamp on entry.

TM.30 post TDAC. Anyone doing them?
So you cannot recall why you actually attended immigration. Not many reasons folk attend immigration.. 90 report in person. COR. Extension. Transfer of stamps to new pp. etc

Choosing Between DTV and Retirement Visa
Good summary. Do you have a Thai Bank account in your name only?

Son needs a Visa to help care for his Father in Pattaya
My reply was to a post regarding a METV not a DTV. Also I had already suggested a DTV in my first post. Read more slowly.

Son needs a Visa to help care for his Father in Pattaya
Indeed he might be due at some point for trip back to USA. Be aware that the need to apply for METV in home county of where you have permanent resident status has changed. @Liquorice pointed this out recently. May update current requirements.

Son needs a Visa to help care for his Father in Pattaya
It's not difficult. Won't outline in this post however it actually provides almost 9 month stay.

Son needs a Visa to help care for his Father in Pattaya
Suggest the Son investigate option of obtaining a DTV. It's also a multi entry Visa so would be an option for 5 years. You could start initial questions with @Issa Compass Also related thread re DTV here https://aseannow.com/topic/1368258-choosing-between-dtv-and-retirement-visa/ Also here https://aseannow.com/topic/1366999-retirement-extension-nah-i’m-dtv-now/

Choosing Between DTV and Retirement Visa
You raise some valid points. Previously folk had bank accounts that were opened with tourist status. Add to that folk that previously had extensions from a Non O and since have opted for other options. Esp with Visa exempt currently 60 days. Annual extensions might not be best fit for some. Example snow birds. Banking is a real issue. The limit of TDL to two years instead of 5 is not nice but possible. At current time you could consider obtaining a Non O + 12 month extension. After a year banking issues might be clear. Perhaps by then DTV no longer issued.

Son needs a Visa to help care for his Father in Pattaya
That's what I would be thinking. Even next 12 month extension not simple process for father. Yes can obtain a medical extension. Think it's 3 months at a time. @Sheryl has knowledge re options

Son needs a Visa to help care for his Father in Pattaya
Just playing devils advocate for a moment. If the father is in a nursing home what care would son provide apart from the obvious moral support etc. The son could consider a DTV perhaps soft power option. The old ED visa would provide a year. A METV would provide 9 months + How long is "long term recovery"
