Indeed and I think this be very popular way of avoiding the extension. A few days in eg lovely Saigon would be nice alternative to CW or elsewhere.

DTV holders need to make a 90 day report if in Thailand loner than 90 days. As post above points out , for those that choose to exit Thailand prior to 180 days the TM47 would only be an issue if there was a need to have any business with immigration for things such as COR, transfer stamps, etc

Immigration - totally useless

I obtained new pp this year and went to CW to transfer stamps. To my surprise the io wanted my bank books and photocopies of pages back to date of current extension and to go down to level 1 and make transaction. I complained that was never previously required but the head io wouldn't have a bar of it. Fortunately had my bank books with me.

Not from something official. Mobs such as Siam Legal (Bangkok Law firm) have good sites for general information however not definitive. Here is another quote grab from Siam Legal....... "It is important to note that the DTV is a special kind of tourist visa in Thailand, which means that holders are prohibited from obtaining a Thai work permit and working for companies in Thailand." What the word "special" means is guess work. (highlight from Siam Legal) In any event the OP was posting about pros/cons of the two options. Personally view the DTV very sweet deal. No requirement for funds maintained all year as I am required for annual extensions (retirement ) from my non O plus Bank docs etc etc for extension. The DTV is a multi entry visa. The option to take a trip out of Thailand prior to the 180 days avoids requirement to obtain an extension. I'm looking for the catch. Can't see it at this point.

That's a given. What I'm referring to, along with others, is that a rejection can occur at anytime regardless of "first time request" or otherwise. It's a lottery Note you can file TM47 via mail if "in person" difficult. -
Why? The DTV on face value seems much better option. Also it's multi entry. The young UK guy I mentioned in earlier in post very recently obtained a DTV in the UK. Took only few days. Minimal requirements. I'm jealous. With my trip (last week) still fresh in mind for annual extension (retirement) and requirements of money in bank etc etc.......i would love a DTV.

A DTV is not a Non O category. "Yes, the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is a tourist visa for Thailand"

Thai Bank Account - 800k deposit
DrJack54 replied to qwab32's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Yes if using income method immigration wants to see monthly transfers of min 65k every month. UK,USA and AU folk not able to provide embassy "income letter" Folk need to check transfer codes as "credit advice" from bank may be required. Few threads in banking/finance forum about this. Often discussing WISE -
If you have a valid TDL then obtaining a DVT would not invalidate that or somehow change it to 2 yr licience. However when you go to renew your license then it will be 2 yr
-
Initial TDL is 2 years and DTV is tourist status and 2 yr TDL can be obtained. Immigration in Bangkok no longer require a TM47 to obtain a certificate of residence (recent change).

Semantics. If something is hit and miss as almost daily reports expressing rejection with the online option then it's faulty. In addition there is never a credible explanation of why the report was rejected. -
Just now back from chit chat at bar young UK guy. He obtained a DTV in UK with very little effot. Mind you he works online and has UK employer so perhaps easy for him. I'm an old guy and was joking that so jealous of how easy was his DVT. Just this week I renewed my annual extension (retirement) If you can obtain DTV or LTV go for it The only downside alludes to your reference to things such as TDL. The DTV is classified as "tourist" He was asking about opening bank account and ended up though while CW may issue him a certificate of residence bank still may have issue. Suggested an agent may be able to assist

Not a matter of liking it. I have had 3 online reports rejected (CW) When try to discuss with immigration officer may as well chat to a lamp post. Yes it can be done via mail. Never had a mail report rejected. Doing in person report is very difficult for many depending on distance from immigration office and things such as mobility. The online is a broken system. Sanctimonious posts from folk re "never had an issue" is not helpful to those that have online rejections regardless of what they do even after in person report. -

Visa Exemption with New Passport
DrJack54 replied to mark999's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
There in is added issue. Approx 10 years ago I was obtaining triple entry tourist visa to Thailand in Saigon that consulate (that was prior to introduction of METV) The io said..."you over 50. Live Thailand. Get non O" You have alternatives. Agree with post from @Caldera Where are you located. Avoid Poi Pet at all costs. In fact think border bounce agents don't even do that run Here is report bounce from Pattaya. Similar threads from Bangkok. https://aseannow.com/topic/1312731-border-run-pattaya-to-cambodia/ -

Again your point? There are daily reports of rejection of online reporting. Possibly the most common thread every week along with TM30. Either something works for everyone or it's faulty. My guess is that you don't deal with CW. Some reports of almost instant approval. Again my guess that this is automated approval. -
Visa Exemption with New Passport
DrJack54 replied to mark999's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
New pp resets nothing. Should be however your history in Thailand is not clear. You mention METV and exemptions over 2 years. Vague. That is safe option. Where are you located. -

Retirement extension renewal questions
DrJack54 replied to Barry864's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
1. You can apply for extension up to date of expiry of current permission of stay. 2. Annual extension is straight forward. Seems like your first extension from non O. 3. No -
