  1. So can low blood glucose. Often accompanied by nausea.
  2. That is my experience. My local high street dental clinic has both general and specialist dentists. Equipment seems very up-to-date and they recently installed a most impressive looking X-Ray machine. There are 9 cubicles with individual air filtration/extraction systems.
  3. Very well thought out Simon! I don't have any cover. Reason being a history of treatment for raised BP in UK in mid 1980's plus a hypoglycemic collapse in Thailand. My BP has remained normal since and a satisfactory full blood count test 4 weeks ago rules out diabetes according to my GP.
  4. Tragic, plus a lot of damage. It may be instinctive to avoid dogs in the road but as driving a pick-up it would have been safe and sensible to proceed on original course.
  5. People used to say the same about television.
  6. Sounds like a good thing to do IMHO.
  7. Thanks for your up-date. Most helpful information!
  8. What concerns me is how I die. I don't want to suffer pain and suffocate whilst conscious. I have been trying, without success, to find such a thing as an 'End of Life' plan that would guarantee to avoid this horrible scenario.
  9. Cold, wet, miserable and expensive versus warm, friendly and economical.
  10. Definitely, 'Advice' computer shop is the way to go!
  11. 'Advice' computers appear to be expanding. Everytime I've been in one, there was a 'tech' guy present in addition to the sales staff. They do on-line sales too.
  12. Good information about health plans in this thread, many thanks to the contributors! The OP was concerned about the number of retirees who shouldn't be here. I agree. Whilst taking a tour with a friend of the economical apartments available in Central Pattaya we were told that many of their long-term residents were elderly and some very rarely left their rooms. Those who had severe mobility problems i.e. wheelchair bound were allocated ground floor apartments. One resident emerged as we were passing his door. We said 'Good Morning' but he didn't/couldn't respond. He looked as if he should have been in a care home. Maybe the apartment staff keep an eye upon such residents and do what they can to help? Such residents are most unlikely to have healthcare plans and the end, when it comes, isn't going to be pleasant for them, the other residents or the apartment staff.
  13. Thanks, that's interesting. In U.K. even medicines (prescribed by a doctor or nurse) are free for over 60 year olds.
  14. True! I've been in U.K. since mid-June. Got a Covid jab before they discontinued them. Caught Covid four weeks ago. Still coughing up nasty stuff. I wear a mask whilst in shops and on public transport and get laughed at. Don't care.
  15. Definitely best to think of these things before buying (or constructing). I'm in the same position as the OP. My house is on a small development of one road built by a local Thai builder. He must have got a discount on sliding patio doors, the only windows being in the bedrooms. The result is floor to ceiling glass everywhere. Might be good in Norway but Thailand?
  16. Therefore, depends upon where you die. If in hospital, can we assume the hospital mortuary would be 'fit for purpose' until your cadaver is transferred to the medical school? Or, will it go immediately to the university pending release document from your Embassy? The form is designed for Thai people. This could be the reason that retirees have (allegedly) previously been told that 'foreign donors are not acceptable'?
  17. Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to post this! You do have to laugh! Our best chance of being accepted would be to die of a heart attack whilst under the age of 80 of course. 'Extremely obese' could be open to interpretation. What is of concern could be how long it takes for our own Embassy to authorise release of our bodies. Recently, a friend of my Mrs's Norwegian husband passed away aged in his forties. His Embassy took eighteen days to issue the paperwork. I suspect that, by then, his cadaver would have been unsuitable for donation?
  18. I haven't used my Smarty SIM outside UK so can't really advise. However, under charges for Thailand it clearly states that receiving SMS is free. I know that receiving SMS is a major hurdle for VOIP services. The only VOIP service that I have found that provides a virtual UK mobile number at very low cost (£12 per annum) and that also receives SMS is 'VYKE'. I've used them for two years without any problems.
  19. Many thanks for your explanation. Most useful information!
  20. 'Smarty' SIM (UK) purchased in advance of my departure from Thailand. I use it whilst in the UK hence no roaming required for me. Apparently, it allows unlimited calls and texts to UK from the EU. Data is restricted to 12GB per month however.
  21. Bangkok Bank have my True pre-paid mobile number. I haven't noticed any reduction in my credit balance when they send OTP's whilst I'm abroad. However, I will now keep an eye on that. Thank you.
  22. I move my Thai SIM(s) into my back-up mobile and use an unlimited data, unlimited calls and unlimited texts SIM in my main mobile. I can then use it as a hotspot to run my back-up mobile and laptop whilst abroad.
  23. There is no charge for receiving SMS. Ensure roaming is activated before you depart Thailand. If your Thai number rings, don't answer it. Works perfectly for me from Bangkok Bank to UK.
  24. Last year I paid 150,000 baht for my Thai brother-in-law's funeral. This was out in the sticks, five days of food (cooked by the family), visitors from all over including Bangkok. Then his casket in the refrigeration unit went on the back of an ancient pick-up truck to the nearest temple.
  25. Good point you have raised. Those of us who live alone (whilst in Thailand and maybe also when visiting our home Countries), need to give thought about how to promptly raise the alarm when we pass. I for one wouldn't wish to inflict the usual scenario of a horrible smell and a house full of bluebottles upon those required to break in, report my death and perform an 'extreme' clean up.
