  1. "His death follows an ongoing £500,000 financial dispute with his Thai ex-wife." Another paper reports it as a "bitter" divorce fight. Just another suicide, nothing to see here.
  2. Living in Cheap farang land ghetto, but complaing about the neighbors. Upscale or move back home to the trailer park.
  3. Soi Mu Ban Chiang Mai Business Park 3 Street to the north of (before) Index Living Mall. Or park in Index, but stop in Index and buy a coffee at least.
  4. RFK is not scared of germs because he used to snort cocaine off toilet seats. Yes he said this Thursday. Obviously if this is what you did and how you feel, Vaccines don't matter much.
  5. Is that the Josh Hawley who was shaking a fist in solidarity with the Jan6 rioters, then hours later, running in fear as they breached the capitol building?! See no one takes him seriously, after he gets caught on camera toading up to MAGA's then hours later skedaddling, showing just how spineless he really is. Typical Republican.
  6. The collective Thai visa uh, er Asean Now, community hopes and prays, you will not be troubled by your inherent racism or bigotry. Live free grasshoper.
  7. Yeah, these things happen. A downward spiral, demon rum will not help.
  8. New England Patriot and Seattle Seahawk Fans may be hostile to each other. However If Donald Trump had made an appearance, they would have joined together in BOOing him into San Francisco Bay.
  9. Thought it would be millennials, but they look to have made the crossing to the old codger side a life. Cultural degeneration is surging in the early 21 century.
  10. 2006 Army coup against the T man, seems like yesterday. No matter if you like or hate the T man, that was the start of two decades in the dump tank. Election or no election, with two judicial coups in recent years, doubt they are getting out.
  11. Three Nagas is a nice stylish place for a meal, coffee or drinks, I always seem to find myself there at some point during a visit. Le Calao is another upscale dining place, more for the view and ambience than the food, but a cool place. Real coffee shops, have sprouted like mushrooms after a monsoons rain. Walk down the street and take your pick. I used to have breakfast and happily type on laptop at one of the restaurants/hotels, on the backside road, facing the Nom Kham river. Seating area is across the street from the hotel or restaurant, next to the river. The buddha caves, Pak Ouv for a day trip. I like the morning 'food' market for local color. Wat Wisunarat, on the other side of Phousi hill is nice, besides the obligatory temples on the peninsula. I forget the names, but the temples across the Mekong, you can walk to, have a nice view of the Luang Prabang peninsula in mid to late afternoon. They may have done something with the French headquarters on the south west slope of Phousi hill. Quick glance pulled up Wilayluck Guesthouse ????. The Lao government used to shoo people away. Guys with AK 47 can do that. Figured they would turn it into a tourist site eventually. I went to LP a LOT in the aughts/noughts, big gap then went with the wife in late 2019, a month before Wuhan flu. Stayed in the Wat Thot area for old times’ sake, at a Guest house I used to frequent and good to see them again. I like that area, but nothing to recommend. If and when I go again would stay at one of the upscale boutique hotels Like hanging out, walking the peninsula, the ambiance of the town. OTOH the river is a lake now because of the dams, or was when I was there last. Lastly, by all accounts you have a lot of Chinese tourists taking the train in now. Post up a review when you return. Luang Prabang has always been a favorite ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I like Hanoi for a getaway. Romantic getaway meaning we are not there to hit all the obligatory tourist sites, and a shorter 3-to-6-day visit. Trip based in three areas; The Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake area & French Area, which are adjacent to each other. Nice boutique hotels, restaurants & coffee shops. Try to avoid crossing streets with moving rivers of motorcycles. Up2U if you want a day trip to Halong Bay. The drive down and back is a PAIN and the times I went less than spectacular. Air Asia makes it an easy and affordable trip. Probably several other carriers do as well.
  12. Fighting the Vietnam war with laptop on the barstool again?!
  13. Picked up 3 K euros from the in laws last month. Drop in the bucket though. Still it might drive more than a few of our deadbeat pensioners back to the states. "Always look on the bright side of life"
  14. A CNN article brought to us via a tabloid "EXPRESS" via the "SOURCE." No wonder it is garbled mess.
  15. Breaking NATO is one of Putin's primary goals. Not a surprise Donald Trump would finally chip in, as he has tried to help Putin in every way possible. Interesting, as this could trigger real economic consequences. Donald is already howling about increasing tariffs but this is a line he cant bully countries to do. Tit for tat tariff spat could happen. Still, as the dollar trends down, now is the time for expats, living one SS check to the next, to take note & stock up. Cheers
  16. Is it so wrong? At least ICE does have core standards.
  17. Not looking good if you are an oil company The Donald wants to invest in Venezuela.
  18. I used to blame it all on my country of origin. However, the Thai post, which once upon a time was OUTSTANDING, is no longer so. Where does it go? No idea. I do make & send multiple copies of important mail, such as the US pension SSA-7162 R U Alive form. That because of past experience. I have had important, very important, mail sent by courier to Thailand also.
