Japanese woman found dead at luxury hotel in Chiang Mai
scorecard replied to snoop1130's topic in Chiang Mai News
That's a confusing summation. I'm sure it will be helpful to the police. But was it a room boy delivering room service food or similar? (Young Japanese women <this one just 25> go to Bali to find hot Bali beach boys for 24 hr sex escorts. EU women also.) (Been to the beach where the hot Bali boys <18/19 yo> parade themselves in tiny tight boy bikinis.) -
Digital nomads in Thailand
scorecard replied to LS24's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
There's always the possibility that a 'digital nomad' gets a bigger contract of work then the contract provider asks for copies of the credentials etc., of the people who will perform the work (and that could mean their permission to work in Thailand). -

And anything, ethical or otherwise, which keeps the military close to the pulse and in control. The military feels entitled to such situation and feeld entitled to 'run' the country. -
Despite Being Blasted, Chuwit Insists Thaksin Not Returning On Aug. 10
scorecard replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Very interesting coment: "...They pardon him and then he reneges on his promise to back the Army when released." But would he dare to "...reneges on his promise to back the Army when released? Anybody who has been around for a while would know that the army will always ensure it's no more than half a step away from being in total control. The paymaster starts to give even the slighest hint of "starts to renege on his promises to back the back the army and the paymaster will be 'confined to barracks' very quickly indeed. -

You're easily hoodwinked. But I do agre the lot right now are a total failure and have done a lot of damage. -
Total rubbish, You posted "...You do know that no one wanted to go into mobile telco at that time as it was new. ,,," Sillyiest post this year. Anybody could see that gettinga telecoms license is a chance to get rich. Your story is nowhere near the truth of the situation which I posted a few items back on this thread. As I said it was on the TV news and other reporting indicating the scenario I posted.

Is that meaning someone (Iranians?) offer a deal to protect you for a fee (no doubt not cheap)? course? Can it really be like that given that everybody who entere IDC wants out, and from my understanding - correct me iif this is not true, most will leave IDC for the airport to fly out? Therefore no lvery long-term inmates, so not easy to keep a protection gang togther and focused...

Not really the point is it? There's not a snowballs chance in hell that he will step off a plane onto Thai soil without a deal signed and sealed in advance which is trusted (by the paymaster) to be rock solid, guaranteed. Is that really on offer? -

Don't foget the 30Baht medical scheme was not Thaksin's idea, it was a promise of another party which thaksin realized was a vote winner and (very unusual in politics anywhere) another party offered the same to sweeten the voters. -

But you missed several serious items, he broke several seious laws, evidence has been published and they weren't 'concocted' by the junta. Re several charges the actions of the courts was well publicised, not a kangaroo court. Nobody is above the law. -

To me it's good news ... which requires all expenses to be justified and approved in each new budget period. Years back I took over the regional director position of a major manufacting and markting company regional operation, several Asian countries. Quickly I noticed payments going out to all sorts of recipients, in Thailand and in Indonesia. I asked the Thai Acct. to explain what was in place. She was so proud the 'system' she had invented (and copied by our Jakarta acct.) meant that support items under 100,000Baht did not need the directors signature. This had been all approved by a previous director who had a poor performance record. I decided to 'kill many birds' with one stone: - I set a date for outgoing payments review, all snr. managers must attend, no excuses for non attendance. - I told the accountant to list all the payments for all suppliers etc for the last 6 months. - We started the meeting and I indicated I wanted comments from all on every payment : -- Was it directly connected to creating value? -- Was it directly connected to turning value into revenue? -- Was it a critical support expense? There were many arguments to categorize the firrt 4 or 5 items (payments already made on the list), plus I deliberately confused the argument by saying: --- Why are we using an outside provider, we have a specific dept., already in place for this item and their modern resources seem to be well underused, or --- When was the last time the supply chain team did a search for an alternative supplier, good quality, lower price? After half a day I instructed the Marketing diector to continue the 'review' until t was completed. Then I sat at the back of the room and took notes. WHy because I was checking whether the snr. managers in the room were satisfactory. Ultimately I ordered immediate early retirement fo 20% of the snr. managers and I deliberately replaced them with rexperienced people from outside the company and gave each new snr. 60 days to share a detailed review how they were managing their department: what they had changed and why (and I encouraged change), and what hey had not changed and why. Before I left the room at the end of the day I announced 'From today no payments can be processed without my signature'. Within 90 days our expenditure totals went down 35%.- 83 replies

What about the gasoline usage with these bigger cars?

AGreed, must be many desperate folks in there, can't get out because no funds o buy a flight ticket / folks from home refuse to help, so stealing from other IDC 'inmates' very attractive. Must also be some inmates who are not bad peope, just got confused about dates and ended up in IDC. On the other hand there's folks in every country who 'naturally' get themselves into trouble in many aspects of life. Some will end up in IDC and very likely with no funds.

And not surprising, dormant accounts increase the time to process things. And no doubt there's millions of them.

One incident, a foreign news reporter asked him an awkward question at a news conference. The paymaster responded 'Idiot scum'. The reporter was deported the next day. -

Move Forward MP being probed over past criminal record
scorecard replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Yes it makes 100% sense to those who have some knowledge of the case. Thamanat Prompow did 3 or 5 year in jail in Oz for drug offences, then deported. And found guilty of using fake documents and more. A few years later he's a big shot in Thailand advising prayut. A reporter asked prayut how can the guy be a member of prayut's party and be a member of parliament if he's done time in Oz for drug offences etc? Prayut replies, "It wasn't in Thailand so it doesn't matter". -

If a property was compulsory acquired by the government, would you believe it could then be developed by a commercial developer and then sold to the public? I certainly wouldn't - doesn't compute. -
It's true, remember it well, the appropriate laws were changed (reversed) in hours so that the paymaster could proceed.

From above "building up his telecom empire." Note that the paymaster received a license to start a private / commercial telecome company from one of the ruthless / authoritarian coup leaders mentioned (gen. Sunthorn - now deceased). It was on TV, the general handing the license to the paymaster. Only one license issued, nobody given a chance apply for / bid for a license. Hence the paymaster had a very valuable monopoly and he took big advantage of this with very high prices / fees etc. Also note this all happened when the telecoms laws of Thailand stated that all telecoms activity must be managed/operated by the state.
