  1. There is no requirement to stay overnight in hospital but at the low cost of a nights stay it might be a good option as you will need to be seen next morning for treatment. Saves time and believe government hospital do want you to do so. At private hospital in Bangkok I did not and wife did not stay overnight.
  2. This dates back decades as when color first became common police looked upon any color copy as an attempted forgery. So for a few years insisted on only b/w copies. Color has been accepted by CW for many years in my experience.
  3. Although I loved the views in LP when worked there 3 months in early 70's would not advise tying yourself to anything in retirement years, especially in the countries you seem to be attracted to. Your track record does not indicate much stability (how many years before wife #77). 🙂 Much more free if renting in our later years. $400 per month seems excessive but have no knowledge of Laos prices - but if rents go up you could go elsewhere. In Thailand you can get a good home in a city for less cost, as I am sure you know. And prices do not seem to increase much. But don't expect there is much choice in LP.
  4. I had actually thought reporting had become a bit better - then I read this - AI at its worst.
  5. I can say wife who is type 2 and normally has low-mid 100 fasting readings with medication once experienced coma due low level in a hospital - all too many nurses took low readings to be great - not for everyone. Wife now keeps candy in purse just in case. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/diabetic-coma/symptoms-causes/syc-20371475
  6. Would it be easier to DD to a US account (or Wise) and transfer here as needed? Many of us have been doing that for decades. If you do not have a US account suspect USAA will open with Thai address. FYI never had an issue when using direct deposit OPM to a US joint account but suspect you are right that an overseas account may have to be your name. You might want to try other banks and keep trying as opening any account has been hit or miss for years now.
  7. As said - not my experience this month and have done same twice - once automatic and once manual. But both from normal bank rather than CU. If Wise did not immediately report funds received suspect an issue with CU response. On my transfer yesterday Wise page immediately reported funds received and when payment/amount would be made.
  8. Was money pulled from your bank account or did you send to Wise (pull then seem to credit immediately)? Was the amount higher than a few thousand dollars? Believe all can be factors on time it takes. I had automatic transfer from bank account for $2500 scheduled for 2nd of month and arrived normally first bank day on 4th at normal 1400 time I stared a pull from bank yesterday afternoon and it is scheduled for normal 1400 today and sent at 0845 today (account flagged to use BBL). edit - seems you sent the money from bank - and those may take some time - when they pull from my bank actual withdrawal is often days after I receive the transfers.
  9. Total nonsense IMHO.
  10. If you don't have to breath the air. Down with charcoal.
  11. Believe (having owned several) they are worth the price - they may or may not last - but cheap to replace. As mentioned it is likely an internal leakage and not worth the cost or effort to try and fix.
  12. Suspect that was/is your issue - change to Firefox may have changed VPN. Try running without any VPN.
  13. Really don't believe there is much in the way of expats in the Subic area anymore - the Covid restrictions were a nightmare and expect some have moved to other areas - know one moved to Angeles and seemed to be happy with the move. It is only a short drive to beach if want to visit.
  14. Subic is not Pattaya, unless you are referring to a few beach bars outside the city. So housing will not be as modern or likely in as good condition but cheap accommodations are available - you might want to search YouTube videos for more information. But in general it will be looking like Thailand a few decades ago (not that that is so bad). I have heard fresh food is much lower quality that even Angeles (which also has a lot more activity and places to live/eat if you do not need to live on the water).
  15. Not sure if related but know I missed at least one email on Gmail yesterday and several others were received late. After about 1800 all normal but I am using True and they upped our old speed of 50 to 500 which might account for some of the issue. Feb 29 is often a computer dark zone. Did not notice Chrome being that slow but this site was extremely slow (more than normal).
  16. We can not agree as found even the larger model inadequate to provide a normal flow for showers (ie hotel or normal USA pressure). Agree they are good units if pressure not a driving factor, As for leaks - many homes will have failures at corner 90 degree elbows as often pipe not cut to proper length and instead of allowing tight fit out from wall they will make it fit with extra sealant. Not that much of a problem if you have access but when covered can be a problem. Won't mention the house in Conakry that they saved money and used thin plastic conduit for all pipes. Have not seen that here (yet).
  17. Use someone else's? Or buy modem/SIM card as mentioned by Fab5BKK.
  18. Indeed an oldie. One of the 2 percent hired before 1984 (well before) and chose CSRS when retired in 1992.
  19. Was just going to ask same as for OPM that is exactly what I do each year and enter the information on tax form for online file. As do not get SS can not be sure if they have such service or not. On second read perhaps OP is trying to set up access to online services - which could be an issue from overseas.
  20. I have found it much, much easier to find old orders using Gmail search (if that is an option for you) - once found you can still click on item to go to Lazada (if still offered).
  21. Less than 100 baht at any local shophouse and almost foolproof (one cut).
  22. Used last two years and queued (prior to IRS accepting returns) and received refund January 31.
  23. The exchange rate would be the card (Visa/MasterCard) set rate unless you opt to use DCC (payment shown in foreign currency - which will be very low exchange rate). Also there will be a local ATM usage fee. Then your card may charge an overseas fee of 1-3 percent to home bank (check that you have a no fee card).
