  1. Apparently many branches are unaware of the Bangkok Bank requirement prohibiting ATM cards on US govt direct deposit accounts. Here is a quote from the Bangkok Bank web site Conditions Bangkok Bank cannot authorize the withdrawal of funds from your direct deposit account by an appointed representative, or via ATM or any other electronic channel. You must appear in person at a Bangkok Bank branch to withdraw the funds. You can, however, open a normal savings or current account and transfer the funds from your direct deposit account to this account. You may then withdraw your funds as usual via ATM or any other electronic channel. You can also choose to directly contact the relevant US government agencies to send funds into your savings account with Bangkok Bank. However, we still need to request that you change your savings account to a Direct Deposit account. Failure to comply will result in Bangkok Bank not being able to deposit funds transferred from the relevant US government agency into your account.
  2. If you contact the Bangkok Bank main office in Bangkok and ask the question, you will find out ATM access not allowed. You probably do not want to change so you might not want to ask. The requirement was imposed on every bank that wants access to the U.S. banking/financial system and direct deposits from the govt. Way back when, the govt discovered that too many American with direct deposit died and their non-qualified wives, girl friends, helpers, whomever would just continue to use the ATM to withdraw money monthly. One woman I helped with SS benefits had to get her invalid husband into the car and then get the branch manager when she got to the Bank. He/She to come out to the car, verify he was still alive, and have him thumb stamp the withdrawal slip. In this case, while both were Thais, both were eligible for SS benefits so that, when he died, she got widow benefits.
  3. JUST RECEIVED TODAY FROM SSA MANILA IN RESPONSE TO MY QUERY If you apply for direct deposit of your SS benefits in a Thai bank through SS Manila, they want a For SSA-1199-OP107 (Thailand specific). If your bank has no experience with that form and refused to fill out section 3, Manila will accept it anyway as long as the name on the account matches the beneficiary and the address of the bank is provided along with the account number and routing number/swift code. The U.S. govt still requires accounts receiving govt monies directly deposited must be account with over the counter withdrawal only, no ATM allowed
  4. Thailand has community property laws. Are they legally married? Did they buy the house after they got married?
  5. Go to Facebook Chiangmai News in English Duncan Riley posts this info almost daily.
  6. Over the last 15 years , I have helped 15-20 Thais and Thai/Americans get their SS benefits directly deposited in Bangkok Bank accounts. For every single one of them, I used the SSA-1199-OP107 form (March 2020, previous forms obsolete) you mentioned, UbonJoe, and sent it to Manila. The last one was yesterday. I want to say 90+% of the time, email has been sufficient. Occasionally, someone has a unique case and has to mail it in with supporting document (originals or certified copies). The U.S. financial system requires any U.S. Govt monies directly deposited in a Thai bank be deposited into an account certified by the bank as requiring in person withdrawals only. ATM card are not allowed. That is the intent of the form and most Bangkok Bank branches know that.
  7. Do not quite understand your words "proper seeing eye doc". Every eye glasses shop I have been to for a new prescription has an optometrist on duty that does the exam. I don't know what you mean, Murrinman, by a retail shop. The optometrist do the exam for "free" and their shop sells lenses and frames at the retail level. Do you mean you want to see an ophthalmologist rather than an optometrist? If so, you will need to go to an eye clinic or one of the hospitals. The eye clinics at Ram and Bkk Hosp where I have been examined by ophthalmologists do not sell glasses but they can give you a prescription. You could then walk in a "retail store" and buy against that prescription.
  8. I have the pink ID card and am retired. What benefit can I get with a tax number?
  9. The bank papers only need to show it is foreign funds being transferred into Thailand, not the source of those funds. Retired people could have any number of sources for that money, a pension is just one of them.
  10. trainman34014, I sent you a PM
  11. I am not sure about Suanprung but the other 4 locations are giving boosters (ignore the dates). Or you could go to Bangkok Hospital and buy Moderna.
  12. I don't think there are any international flight originating or terminating in Chiangmai. I have been searching for several days now and have found nothing. Everyone I have talked to has said CNX has not opened up for international flights yet.
  13. Why not take a screen shot and print it out yourself? If the QR code is sharp, it should be be as good as a hospital printed copy. Or get the Covid Passport the govt will make for you.
  14. Not the best picture, but there seem to be some unusual protuberances. It does not look like a normal ankle contour. If true, you should get an xray.

    Fish Pond

The pond is 40-45 cm deep, depending upon evaporation. I change about 25% of the water each week cleaning the filter system behind the wall. I have had smaller pumps but now have a 280 l/min one. I have four O2 generating inlet pipes around the pond and three water falls on the back wall. I didn't have the water fall on for the picture. The pond holds around 7000 liters. The pipe size restricts the flow so I know I am not getting the full 280 liters. I like to think maybe a water change every hour? Yes, run it 24 hrs a day. Maybe over kill, but I also have two separate O2 pumps going to four 9 in diameter movable O2 outlets in the pond. I read you can not get too much O2 in the water. My filter system: A 4 inch diameter gravity drain from the pond to the in ground filter. Water flow into the filter matches what the pump pumps out. A lot of sediment drops out in the settling basin, most of the rest is caught as the water flows up through a fiber mesh filter (like what is used in making a comforter) that I change every week. The the water flow through the lava rocks which I might wash every 6 months or so (per recommendations). And I have a floating UV light fixture in the lava rock sections that is on 24 hrs/day to kill algae (works). This system is covered. Minimum maintenance; maybe 30 minutes once a week. NOTE: ignore the labels in red font. I drew these diagrams for another reason years ago.
  16. You need to provide more details, such as the discussion you had with the employee before they gave you this. They gave it to you for a reason. I don't understand the issue based on this.
  17. You want a refund when you had not paid anything? I don't understand.
  18. why do you think the marriage "visa" would no longer be offered/honored?

    Fish Pond

The developer tiled my pond and the only complaint I have is that the koi won't reproduce. But I don't need them to as I have some 20 koi, bunch of algae eaters and hundreds of "mosquito" minnows. The fish have really grown over the last 12 years or so, so all tile pond is not detrimental in any way I can tell. I don't think the pond filter would clean the water with any more big fish.
  20. Bangkok Hospital gives a very good thorough physical. Check their web site for prices. Last time I looked, they had a table of tests performed for different levels, different prices. They are the most expensive, though checking their web site should give you good information for comparisons with other hospitals, govt vs private.
  21. I agree with ROBBLOK, Win10 is not updating every week. Do you have a legal copy you bought yourself? Anyway, open CONTROL PANEL==>Programs==>Programs and Features==>View Installed Updates (left hand column). You will get a list. I have a total of 59 updates but only 8 Windows updates, the last ones in October 2021. The other 51 updates are for Adobe Acrobat Pro, MS Office, etc. You might google Windows 10 updates and check for yourself what you have have set up.
  22. Kinnock -- good assessment. Now that you have people looking for that, hopefully they will notice that usually there is a slight indication in the front wheels. It may be subtle, maybe a subconscious hint at turning the wheel in the direction they want to go. I am frequent forewarned by the front wheel tell tale.
  23. And MRI? Sounds like a TIA A transient ischemic attack (TIA), commonly known as a mini-stroke, is a brief episode of neurological dysfunction caused by loss of blood flow (ischemia) in the brain, spinal cord, or retina, without tissue death (infarction). This might be ignored because of the relative shortness of the episode. Blaming it on stress sounds like insufficient examination.
