The same people describe Pattaya as a world class family resort. There really isn't much to discuss.

Back to the UK after 21 years - anything changed?
Woof999 replied to simon43's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
Anything different? Fell out with the EU. Tony Blair got outsted. Only Fools and Horses finished. Probably some other stuff too that doesn't concern me. -

Shredding Data Storage Devices before final disposal
Woof999 replied to moogradod's topic in IT and Computers
Yep, the broken iPad will be one of the easiest to destroy. Hammer it until you have access to the internals, then smash every IC in sight. -

On second thoughts.... don't do the microwave. -

A cheap microwave that you're happy to damage. 10 seconds per device and then the hammer. Do it outside. -
What to do if Thai police stop you and attempt a ‘shake-down’
Woof999 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
This article said that, if you'd done something wrong and were offered an on the spot fine, it would likely be a lot less hassle and cost than going to court. Sounds like decent advice to me.- 225 replies

I pretty much always get a taxi now. The cost of the fuel, extra mileage on the car and the parking typically makes the taxi a no brainer. Last time I parked I used the lower level outside parking near gates 1/2/3, expecting to be there 2 or 3 days. I was refused entry and finally got back ~3 weeks later. Bill wasn't too bad (around 6000 baht total) and car was fine.

I wouldn't bother with the backup USB drive. Use "the cloud" such as Google Drive or One Drive instead. Then you can access these files from anywhere. Relying on a USB drive for more virtual memory (pagefile) would be a REALLY bad idea. Way too slow, unless a significant pregnant pause while swapping between apps is something you're happy to live with.

SATA is mostly internal (but not always) - it doesn't look like your PC has one. E-SATA - external SATA, but not on your PC. IDE - internal and old school. No motherboard typcaily offers this any more. M.2 - internal and what pretty much everyone goes for now as it's amazingly fast - your PC definitely doesn't have this. There are others too but they definitely don't affect you. USB - almost always external - your only real choice (so not really a choice at all).

I'm afraid it's not and, personally, I wouldn't spend another single baht on it except for maybe moving some files to an external USB3 hard drive (if those 4 USB ports are actually coloured correctly). If EVERYTHING you do on it is via web browser, I might consider installing Chome OS Flex on it, but with your level of PC knowledge (I'm trying to help here, not flame), that's probably not a good idea.

If all you're doing is web browsing, email, watch a few vids on YouTube etc then all good. However, looking at the specs of that machine, it's about as under powered as you can get. I'm almost surprised it runs Windows 10 and there's almost no way Win11 will play well on it. You've already seen the best it can offer. Very low spec processor, minimal RAM (pagefile will be used all over the place), no obvious SATA connections... it's just going to get slower and slower and frustrate the hell out of you. If your needs are anything other than really, really basic and money isn't too tight, I'd seriously look at replacing it. Frustration alone would force my hand.

Internet banking change.
Woof999 replied to owl sees all's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
It's been a while since I wrote for Android, but it was always pretty easy to work out whether someone was on a real device or a virtual machine / emulator and many apps, especially financial, would not allow you to run on the latter. I'd be very suspicious of an internet banking app that can run on an emulator, as that emulator can just be copied multiple times, hence it removes 1FA from MFA (you having the device with you). -
Central Festival - Another type of parking space.
Woof999 replied to phetphet's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
The harder they make it for "mere mortals" to park, the less likely those mortals are to use those shops. What happened to the UK High Street is a perfect example. I used to go to Central at least once or twice a week. Now I go maybe once every couple of months. -
I Can't Believe It Has Come To This, So Here Goes .....

Bought a few decent mops from large Tesco Lotus before they changed to Lotus's's's's's's' They weren't Tesco branded so I'd be surprised if they weren't still there. The best one was red and came in a box with the twirly whirley bucket thing. I've on many occasions not been able to find all sorts of things in Thailand, but a decent mop.... nah. -
Renovating everything - buying more of everything?
Woof999 replied to OneMoreFarang's topic in DIY Forum
I always buy extra tiles and wallpaper and then measure twice, drill/cut once for every fixture that goes on them. If I remember I'll also take photos of the packaging of things like hinges, taps, door handles. Don't buy brass door knobs / handle. They do have some mild anti-bacterial properties offset by the fact they look bloody awful within a year or so and you'll never have them all looking the same. Same with many of the anodised aluminium tile trims. Many of them discolour when grout touches them and they need cleaning every day to stay in good condition. No point buying extra of those as you'll have to remove much of the tiling to replace them anyway. -
Best bedroom air filter ….considering cost of replacement filters and noise…
Woof999 replied to mikey88's topic in Chiang Mai
I used Facebook to register. I pretty much never use Facebook for Facebooky type stuff, but it's handy occasionally for logins to other apps. App gives you full control over 1 or more filters, child lock, scheduled on/off, estimated filter life and a reasonably pretty display of the current PM2.5 level, temp and humidity. It also gives you firmware updates for the machine, which probably doesn't mean much if you don't use the app. If you don't need schedules or child lock or any need to not walk over to the device to turn it on/off then you're not missing too much, especially if you only have the 1 machine. -
Used to have the Click 125i and now have the 150i. My weight has varied from almost 110kg down to around 90kg. Both Clicks have been fantastic and are perfect for around town. The 125 maybe a little under-powered for a larger pillion.

Arrived today. Took the PM2.5 level in my office down from 35 to 7 in about 30 minutes on it's lowest setting. Mobile app is fantastic too. Air doesn't feel any different ???? but if the numbers are true it's doing a great job and for the cost I'm totally impressed. -
