  1. It will be a lot less than 200-300 USD. We've used the chains, a couple different ones, and all were good. Might want to try some different frames, as not expensive either, unless going designer name. Lenses themselves have all been inexpensive, for myself, minor script (+/- 25) and less than 1000 baht. Though been a while. For daughter, ever changing script, and don't remember that much difference, but sure not >1500 baht, and she was +/- 275 ish. Just asked daughter, and her last pair purchase was around 3000 baht, script'd lens & frames (non designer) We never put lens in old frames, but doubt if they'll charge much at all. Nothing close to USA prices. Free exam comes with the glasses and I wouldn't tell them your script. Let them tell you (if it hasn't changed recently), and that will give you a gauge of the doc & shop's quality. Just make sure they are perfect before leaving. Most will be made in <2 hrs at the malls, and usually about 1 hr, unless busy. Never had to come back to pick on later day.
  2. Another plus for having an EV, hopefully. Easy to tell what paid for is what was received, and no worry about getting the incorrect change, as no other humans involved in the transaction. Need to pay attention, sadly. Not short changed on the gauge, but all scams. I remember in very early days of 'topping up' the Vios, and apparently the attendant didn't clear a previous sale, before topping me up. "That will be 600 baht" "I don't think so slick, as this car doesn't hold 600 baht worth of petrol, unless I was running on fumes" I figured there was 100 on the pump already, and think I was generous. "here's 500 and I call the PoPo". Have a nice day. After that, paid attention to Liters & change.
  3. Finding her claims in the OP a bit hard to believe. IMHO Very innocent till proven very guilty. Notice its a civil suit, not criminal, and no mention of, then or now.
  4. Unless you just want better performance, it probably wouldn't be a good move, financially. ... 2nd hand market is really an unknown here ... new, better, same priced or cheaper is arriving every few months, so anything bought now, might be a hard sell, very hard sell, 3-4 yrs down the line. And operating saving in such a short time won't be realized, and guessing break even at best, petrol savings vs depreciation. On the flip side, if EV sales continue at the pace they are, and govt hold true on the EVs only in the future, the market and depreciation of ICEVs will get hit pretty hard, as they'll be on borrowed time. Not something that will happen in 3-4 yrs, maybe 5-7. Especially if ration of CS per EVs keeps at even half the pace, as there really are more than enough .... now.
  5. True words indeed. I grew up in a home of alcoholic parents, and not pleasant to say the least. Safe, roof over our heads, and actually ate good, but no funds for anything else. All going to their habit, along with a bit of gambling. The money spent on alcohol, cigs, gambling could have put 4 of us through Uni. I actually worked since age 12, not a bad thing, as 'what doesn't kills you, strengthens you' And to be behind the wheel of an auto ... Holy Buddha, he's lucky he was stopped before something did happen seriously.
  6. Yes ... that is the problem ... profits over common sense Not a big fan of nuclear myself, as no matter what they tell us, they still haven't figured a way to safely get rid of spent fuel rods. May come back to haunt future generations. Nukes are just a bit better than fossil fuels.
  7. And how often does anyone get more than a 5k baht fine, and yet to hear of someone going to jail, unless they killed someone. ... 100k & jail for flying a drone ... 100k & jail for littering on beaches ... death sentence (I think still there) but when was the last that was giving, Confess and you get 8 yrs, no matter how brutal it was. What's in print & reality, usually doesn't align themselves.
  8. Been pushing H for at least 17 years, and doesn't seem to be getting much traction. Remember the 'Who Killed the Electric Car" documentary (2006), and H being pushed in that as an alternative. Funny part of that documentary, one of the guys driving around as part of the promo, stated It's a ridiculous alternative. Seems he was right, as 17 yrs later, and still not a viable alternative. On the surface, without the tech side of H, it has the inherent issues petrol & diesel have. The cost and energy used to produce, transport & store it. Really need to get away from producing energy for the profit, and simply harness the 'local, natural' energy available, that's being ignored & wasted; solar, hydro, thermal, wind. These countries seem to have moved away from fossil fuel for energy, and not even in the sunny tropics: Even states in the USA, again, not even in the tropic:
  9. I gave up reading his EV drivel What if ... what if ... what if ... what if ... he just STFU Guessing he's the kind of guy that runs out of petrol once or twice a year ...
  10. That sucks, especially if linked to just the EV fire, as apposed to all the other toxic fires they've fought over the years. Would think SCBAs would be standard equipment when getting an EV fire call. Point taken, but hard to compare EV fire health hazards to the hazards of diesel exhaust over the decades of use, with direct link to respiratory diseases. Would think diesel wins hands down on the health hazard scorecard. Thankfully EVs are moving away from using some of the more toxic chemicals. Safer with added plus of being cheaper.
  11. Locals dictate, not tourist. Yes, more condos & businesses over the years. Means the people need the walkways to actually walk on. Best thing they did was clear out the vendors on Sukhomvit rd, as last few times I was down the tourist ghetto, it was a pleasure walking between T21 and Chitlom Central, (odd # side) instead of single file, if even possible, while avoiding the hot grills or oil set up. Along with all the overpriced t-shirt, trinkets and useless knock off & fake crap nobody bought. Though do read they're slowly returning. Last time up soi 11, noticed more in the street, making walking more treacherous. I avoid Silom area just for that reason, as yet to clean it up. Hopefully they have, but I won't venture there to find out. I usually avoid the tourist ghettos; lower suk and side sois. Plenty of vendors still on most side sois, but quite the hazard during rush hour, and barely able to get 2 cars down the side sois when congested with vendors, and not safe to walk on.
  12. location location location ... supply & demand, will always dictate prices...worldwide.
  13. Maybe from the news about Manhattan, New York, where they now plan on charging you to enter. Make travel too expensive, that one way to control people. One way to make 15 minute cities. More control, lack of freedom of movement. Expect more in the future. Surely they'll come up with silly reason; congestion, pollution, global warming Next up, geofencing in you vehicles ...
  14. That's a false narrative. If you can't find street food, whether ma/pa shops or mobile or permutant walkway vendors, then you're not looking very hard. We visit Krung Thep often, and never a problem.
  15. Classic ... sadly he'll only get a small fine, instead of jail & deportation. Hopefully the wife won't bail him out, and his bags will be curbside when he does get out. Almost feel sorry for her. Imagine living with someone like that ... Holy Buddha. Obviously has no respect for himself, let along anyone else.
  16. And that's exactly how the fossil fuel industry with control the EV rollouts & mandates, by controlling the politicians, and the accessibility of the grid. Purposely not having it upgraded sufficiently to supply the needs of the people. They've done it for decades, restricting the use of alternative energy. No reason, every rooftop, where possible, doesn't have solar panels on it. But one way or another, they make that hard to do. Whether by cost, over taxation, or simple regulation. That's a little too obvious. And the people are simply too stupid to force the politicians to do the right thing. Believe all the BS they are told. Why I love living in TH. Not a Nanny state.
  17. Most people don't do regular 7 hr O&As, and even our O&As, and we probably still spent less time topping up the EV, than most do, topping up their ICEV throughout the year. More than enough CS here/TH. Though since not living here or using, people don't realize or notice it.
  18. That's where I got mine at, A. Muang, around the corner from Nong Prajack Park, as lots were located at Ban Na Kae, NaDi, A Muang. Just myself, wife & seller for one, then had that lot cut up in 6 lots, One rai each), (2 for house & 4 to sell), so then wife & myself for those 6. No lawyer or RE agent involved. Too easy and <100 fee for each, if I remember correctly.
  19. That's location dependent, and at present, plenty of CS here/TH, and inexpensive. I'm actually surprised how many more are showing up while out & about. Most people charge at home anyway, so irrelevant for many people. We're O&A as much or more than most people, half our kms last year were O&A, 10k of 20k, and half those/5k, needing CS, and not once was there a Q. A few of those, and most recent was done on weekends. My observations, I think more PTT Parks now have CS, than not, Along with a CS is easy to find, than E85 petrol, which was a challenge when we had the ICE version of our MG ZS. Peoprle don't seem to have any problem Q'ing up every week to top up with petrol for 10 minutes. So 520 or 260 minutes a year, if topping up every week or 2. When it takes me 13 to 26 minutes a year, as all of 30 sec to plug in/out at home, every week, and that's being negative.
  20. I got 1 in 2010 (Oct), and 6 in 2011 at Udon Thani. Did they give you a reason? Only 2 at PKK
  21. Very nice ... bit pricey for the specs, but it's a BMW (if same one) My ghetto DECO SUSU is spec'd about the same, not nearly as sleek looking, but also <70k baht And has a seat for the wife & dog, that may be a negative for some folks w/wife/gf
  22. I use this site for a ball park idea of air quality, or used to. Been paying attention so long, I can guess close to what the AQI/PM2.5 is by how clear the headlands at the bay are from the house, or the hills to Myanmar in the opposite direction. Actually not a local AQI station here, or consistently online. But between Sam Roi Yot and Chumphon, gives me a ball park idea if wanting. Have my own meter, so can know what it is at the house. Site is good for when planning O&A, as came in handy recently when heading over to East coast of the Gulf, Trat area. Windy is pretty good also, for all things.
