What made you to take the jump and move to Thailand
KhunLA replied to camper star's topic in General Topics
Nagging, money hungry, prying gov't, regulations & PC this and that. -
I wouldn't mind one at Krung Thep, as hotel prices have skyrocketed, and visiting the kid gets expensive, just for a day visit and nice munch out, on her days off. Aside from the 300 km drive, one way. Something under 1M, with no amenities, so low maintenance fees. Should be some nice sales coming up soon.

There goes that market You have to wonder, how many actually had earthquake insurance in the policy, if having at all. We have no home insurance. One story, well built, and not in 'red zone'. Block & steel construction, so not even covered for fire.

Nah ... just the wife doing spring cleaning of the storage area, and selling all the crap we haven't used in 6 months or more. Years actually 🙄 Sold 6 laptops, netbooks, tablets, sound system, all kinds of junk. Amazing what we carried around with us for a couple moves. Keeps asking me 'should sell this' ... if I haven't touched it in 6 months, sell it. Drones, and tools are off limits...anything else, I don't want see again. I even gave a whole, rather expensive camera kit & 5 lens away to niece. Spare that I never used, since upgrading. Really nice kit, but wouldn't get much if selling. Rather her have, as having an interest in photography. No way could she afford or her father by a nice kit for her. I have a YT that has millions of views, but need 5k subscribers to be monetized, and think I'm only half way. Have no desire to have a income channel, as sounds like work, and just stick stuff there for myself.

Bangkok Declared Disaster Zone Following Powerful Myanmar Earthquake
KhunLA replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Yep, land prices in lighter zones will increase. Same happened after the tsunami, and the Bangkok flooding of 2011. -
Keto-ish, Keto or Carnivore, which ever, for myself, just eating as little sugar and sugar rich carbs as possible. If pre or diabetic, something you should consider or try.

Poll -- Will you support Canada or USA if war breaks out?
KhunLA replied to Jingthing's topic in Political Soapbox
Oh contraire, he's spot on, and lost that race to the OP The clear title holder. -
Yes, as title states ... prices have plummeted Feel free to buy them by the truck or dozen. Me, slab of 30 large #1s which average out to <$1.50 a dozen. (30 @ 125 baht)

He's on that 'list' as are 62 folks and counting ... 😎 (edit; 63 now) Subject is egg prices, but since asking, everyone I know in the USA is happy with President Trump, and his attempt to keep campaign promises and MAGA. Egg prices down from the high, both wholesale & retail, by ~50% +/- 10% from the silly high caused by Biden administration's policy of chicken culling, and mismanagement afterwards.... IMHO Feedback I'm getting, so far, so good; egg prices, petrol prices both down. Border much more secure, and scum being deported. Hostages / POW, (mid east) what ever you want to call them were being exchanged, as 'or else' seemed to work. Talks with UA & RU moving along. Corruption and govt waste exposed ... finally, that even the most ignorant or stupid person is starting to realize the joke that is the federal govt, and budget spending. People struggling ... well, relative to folks I know, that are intelligent and work hard for everything they have, so all doing fine. I'm sure all the people that don't and or have never lived there, in the USA, or in contact with USA citizens know so much more than I do. So there's that ...
-
Yes, inflation under Biden, average 5+% a year, 20+% during his administration. Based on COLA for Soc Sec. When was the culling of millions of chickens done ? ... under who's administration ? Why the increase in eggs ? (see below) And the prices are correcting themselves under who's administration ? .... nuff said

As always, your vendor can be kind, or price gouge ... same for any product, anywhere. UP2U where you shop and how thrifty you are, or need to be. If I lived in the USA, I'd be buying from the local farm, egg producer. Easy to find, best eggs for best price. Actually ... If I was in USA, I'd just go out to the coop every morning and get my eggs. I'd have a coop here, but eggs are too cheap, and I like my free time. The garden & greenhouse is enough for now. #1 eggs being <$1.50 a dozen here / TH.

Topic is eggs, not your delusions or crystal ball predictions. Save it for the joke thread ...

Bangkok Declared Disaster Zone Following Powerful Myanmar Earthquake
KhunLA replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Talking to my daughter, works in skyscraper @ Sathorn, near Lumphini Park, and contrary to my initial though (no big deal), it was pretty F'g scary. She shored some photos & vids with me, and agree, damn scary indeed. Works in 12th floor, or 32 story building, and all under the desks, during initial 'sway', and then evacuated, the latter being the scary part. As building material falling of the side of building, glass, concrete, cement, roofing, signage .... you name it, and it was falling onto the sidewalks & streets. Along with the mass panic and people running about. What a mess. -
Down from the high of $8+ USD just 3 weeks ago. Now around $3 UsD a dozen Even 33% cheaper than $4.13 a dozen, back in late Aug, early Sept 2024. ... MAGA ... one crisis at a time source: https://tradingeconomics.com/commodity/eggs-us

We sampled a newer place last night locally. Facing surfside, decent food, park in front, to side, not to block the view. No congestion, not crowded, and first time in a while down surfside on a Friday night. Everyone at the other end of the surfside road for the weekend walking street market. No traffic to speak to get there, (8 kms) about 10 mins from house. I would never attempt to drive to a surfside restaurant in a tourist town on the weekend, or during the week, at normal dining hours.

Have you tried .. Khao Soi Thai Yai Restaurant, UT
-
I really like UT nightlife when single, although I didn't go to where the expats hung out. And usually the only farang there, unless at Tawan Daeng, which I'm not sure is even still there. UT is very walkable, unlike most larger cities. I used to hire a tuk tuk, 75 baht an hour for my pub crawls, and get a hotel in town. As I lived 15 kms out of town.

High season Nov - Feb is OK, as they're escaping the cold at home. Late Feb, March & April are just brutal, and why my brother came to visit in early February. He was at Nam & Cambo last April, and it was brutal, so close, but had enough. He was actually pretty lucky, as pollution wasn't too bad for the 16 days he was here, considering usually much worse. Smog season, stick to the walkable towns, enjoy the architecture and markets. Forget them mountain views. That and everything is brown, crunchy, dusty. Rainy season, everything green & fresh, though seas are too rough to swim in.

Welcome to Thailand ... Unless hanging out in a 'walkable' town, I really don't know why anyone comes to Thailand during smog season. Forget any nice views, unless just the eye candy at the beach or bars.... Phuket beach 😎
