Was great, though haven't been there for about 10 years Last time there, you could barely see the airport runway from the hillside Wat, and the airport was closed due to the air pollution. Worst I've ever seen. Wife can't deal with winding roads. Gets motion sickness. Main reason we haven't been to Umphang. Only place on the mainland we have not been. Since they still have the scam to get to the waterfalls, doubt if we'll ever go there. MHS on a better day ...

That would be annoying if having to disable every time you start. The ZS isn't like that, disabled once, and stays that way at every start.

English Breakfast Around Central HH? - Early Opening a Plus

Actually the same reasons we left Udon Thani apply to Patts and then some. The gridlock is simply too much, especially weekends, along with lack of parking anywhere. Just the congestion, and impact that has on everyday life. Simply too many people. We live outside of town, and 'in town' has less than 26k people, and would bore the hell out of most people after a long weekend. But we love it. Aside from Patts being a international tourist area, which we definitely wouldn't want to live near. We get the BKK weekenders that have tired of Hua Hin, but very few in reality. Along with Patts, being still further away from the south, where we prefer to go O&A, during smog season. Will go north, but only during rainy season. Does limit things when wanting to get away from the house, which we do often.

Bangkok Shop Owner Defends Right to Sell Controversial Shirts

A major reason why we left after 16 ish years. Rush hour & weekend gridlock was getting to be a bit too much. No problem 1000-1400 hrs during the week and quite pleasant to pop into town for a munch. Really does get old, very fast. Scratch going down to the night markets near RR station any time, any day, after 1700 hrs. Or anywhere for that matter.

Good luck with that one ... 😎 Ours about the same, though 2.5 yrs ago, and 949k now 829k, charger & installation was included with ours. Which we rarely use anyway, since having Solar, and the wall charger is the only thing on the grid. Those that didn't jump in, or simply weren't ready, are lucking out with the price wars, both EV & ICEV. I think all prices across the board have dropped about 100k. For us, sort of irrelevant, and a wash. As our ICEV that was sold, also dropped 100k in price, along with saving another 100k on petrol (if all local driving), so no real financial loss. Got to drive a much better performing car, while passing the petrol station every week. That's priceless

Ah yes ... fresh ground, and brewed Coffee via French press (black) no fag, although there is half a doobie on the nightstand. Did a recon of the yard (walled, for snakes) ... 'ALL CLEAR' ... before letting the dog out. Wife killed 2 yesterday, outside the wall in the garden & greenhouse. She's out there now, collecting the fruits of her labor; Figs, tomatoes, lemons, kale, squash, pumpkin. My LPOS butt is catching up on the whiners ... oops, I meant news. That was a quick read. Petting said dog while 2nd couple is filtering through. Answered queries from folks in the mother land ... 'still alive, didn't feel a thing', as researched before retiring here. No earthquakes or typhoons affect where we live. Another 'Day in Paradise'

BREAKING NEWS Skyscraper comes down in Bangkok earthquake
KhunLA replied to MalcolmB's topic in Bangkok News
Don't know if anyone saw or posted this yet. Was in the 'Thai Enquirer', but since been deleted (reported elsewhere) Notice another thread on AN stated 43 missing at site. And yes, ITD is the same company working on Rama 2 highway, and president of, is Premchai Kannasut, who did time for killing that panther at the national park. ... "Reports of an under-construction building collapse in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district following earthquakes in Myanmar are trending in China after initial reports suggested that the new State Audit Office project was overseen by a joint venture between Italian-Thai Development and China Railway No. 10 (Thailand). So far, three workers have been confirmed dead, while more than 80 remain missing and are feared trapped in the rubble. Rescue operations are ongoing. The State Audit Office signed a construction contract on November 23, 2020, with the ITD-CRCC joint venture for the 33-story main building and related facilities, valued at 2.14 billion baht. Another contract, signed on January 14, 2021, awarded 74.65 million baht to the PKW joint venture (PN Synchronize, W. and Associates Group, and KP Consultants & Management) for project supervision. The construction timeline has been extended from fiscal years 2020 to 2026. A widely shared report in China stated that the collapsed building was designed with a core tube and flat slab system. The core was constructed using slipform casting, while the flat slabs were installed using a lifting method. The external structure used a climbing formwork system to ensure concrete quality for the high-rise. Online discussions include comments such as: “As seen in the second image, this building uses a ‘flat slab’ system, meaning it has no beams and relies only on columns for support. This reduces its earthquake resistance compared to traditional frame structures, making the design a major factor in any collapse.” “The bridge that collapsed in Myanmar was also built by China.” Others shared images of the building with a Chinese caption reading, “Made in China.” [Update] The Department of Business Development's data indicates that the joint venture operates in a business category not listed under the Foreign Business Act, meaning foreign nationals can run the business without a license. However, it is required to submit financial statements under the Accounting Act. Financial data for 2023 shows total assets of 1.36 billion baht and total liabilities of 3.11 billion baht. In 2023, the joint venture’s primary revenue was 87.28 million baht, with total revenue of 105.45 million baht. It reported a gross profit of 17.52 million baht, while selling and administrative expenses totaled 35.04 million baht. Total expenses amounted to 1.86 billion baht, resulting in a net loss of 1.75 billion baht. No corporate income tax was reported." -
Any town you never heard of

45 yrs living there, and I've never seen eggs on beef burgers. Philly, PA (whole metro area), Up & Down East Coast, Memphis TN area, Detroit area, S. FL / Keys / Clearwater / Tampa, Beckley W.VA ... any of 100+ cities that I've visited. .... NEVER ... Only on a breakfast sandwich, which also, never included ground beef. Scrapple being my 'go to' brekkie sandwich. First time was in Udon Thani, 2000, at an Aussie Bar. Seems a standard thing now ... BLASPHEMY

Agree, never lived in Patts when single, and actually regret visiting the few times I did, as a bit of wasted time. Better spent elsewhere. Thought never crossed my mind to live there, especially after visiting.

Love a good burger, but it's not what I go out to eat for, as I do burgers much better & cheaper at home. ฿300 or more for a 'burger dining experience' No thanks That's a kilo of ground brisket and or rib eye, or 6 real nice burgers at home. When out, one or two nice Thai dishes definitely a better option. Not saying I never eat a burger out, but really is low priority, or more like, nothing else available. Sanfran Burger & Beer Maesai, should be excellent, as used to be when at Chiang Rai. There's a Gmap link for it, but here is snaps from the old location. Big plus, they offered Beer Lao Dark to wash 'em down. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Sanfran+Burger+%26+Beer/@19.9409753,99.2498649,10z/data=!4m10!1m2!2m1!1sSanfran+Burger+%26+Beer!3m6!1s0x30d7065933a87543:0xf2d991ca007c17f!8m2!3d19.9409753!4d99.8266471!15sChVTYW5mcmFuIEJ1cmdlciAmIEJlZXKSAQ1iYXJfYW5kX2dyaWxs4AEA!16s%2Fg%2F11cjjzz13c?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDMyNC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D Start Burger at our local weekend market is quite good, and probably the last burger I had out of the house. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Start+Burger/@11.8079309,99.7991097,3a,75y,90t/data=!3m8!1e2!3m6!1sAF1QipNoKWI84wjLYWi4gUJ7uOh_3qpWGIrt_ki0pIRz!2e10!3e12!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipNoKWI84wjLYWi4gUJ7uOh_3qpWGIrt_ki0pIRz%3Dw203-h130-k-no!7i2048!8i1316!4m13!1m2!2m1!1ssmart+burger+prachuap!3m9!1s0x30fe85267f2c94d5:0xca8a75435154a57!8m2!3d11.8079309!4d99.7991097!10e5!14m1!1BCgIYIA!15sChVzbWFydCBidXJnZXIgcHJhY2h1YXBaFyIVc21hcnQgYnVyZ2VyIHByYWNodWFwkgEUaGFtYnVyZ2VyX3Jlc3RhdXJhbnTgAQA!16s%2Fg%2F11h77x1fzn?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDMyNC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D Another place I liked, no longer in existence... Agree And a lot (most) of the Wagyu has so little of Wagyu beef in it, it shouldn't even be called Wagyu. Nothing but a pricing scam. At best, if lucky, it's crossbred just once. Though highly unlikely at the low price Wagyu is sold here, and the way it looks. Not much different than the good local Thai beef As silly as putting 'organic' or 'keto' on a label of a product. No inspection or regulations enforced to verify what it is. At least BK Whopper beef patties are supposedly 100% beef and sourced from AU. A double, flame broiled at least taste like a good burger.

Do I Have to Carry My Passport
KhunLA replied to NickyLouie's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Agree. I don't carry because it's the law, as I think I've been asked for it once, in 25 years, and that was at a check point by military personnel. Thought that was kind of strange, of all folks to ask for it. I carry it since safest place for it. OP did ask if required to carry. -
Only an idiot would grind up an expensive piece of true Wagyu to make a burger. Or someone with way more money than sense. I don't even like the flavor of Wagyu steak, though probably one of the cheapest grades, if even Wagyu. Can't imagine a better grade tasting any better, as way too much fat, and not what I want in a steak. Fat is flavor, but not at the expense of little actual meat flavor. Doesn't have the 'beefy' flavor that I like. I'll take an Angus beef steak or burger over any other. At home, I usually get ground brisket and or rib eye for my burgers. Or even a leaner beef cut, but cooked with beef tallow.

Do I Have to Carry My Passport
KhunLA replied to NickyLouie's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Irrelevant, it's the law, no matter who asks fo it, and if wanting to avoid a fine or sitting around where ever, till some brings it to you, then simply carry it. As stated, for me, PP with me is the safest place for it. I don't lose or have stuff stolen from me. Hotel is the last place I'd leave it, if O&A. Car would be safer, but many don't self drive. It's in my bag, next to my wallet, yellow book & bank book, along with my phone. Not weighing me down, and simply too easy to carry with me, and keep safe. Looks as good at the 10 yr mark as when issued, since in a plastic sleeve and only comes out at the bank or Imm office. -
Egg & pineapple don't belong on a beef or any burger. I'm a Yank, not an Aussie.

Wagyu anything ... nothing but a pricing scam No Japanese steers in TH, or real Wagyu that any CC can afford.

A burger is one of the last things I'd leave the house to order at a restaurant. An overpriced sandwich is not something I leave the house for, when so many better options to eat. Right behind a full or any 'egg & meat' breakfast, as 2 things I usually don't order when dining out. Can't help with any suggestions, aside from a consistent Double Whopper. Never failed in the past. In a pinch and can't think of anything else (rare) when O&A, that Double Pork Burger @ 7-11 will do

Thai Restaurant Industry Faces Crisis as Purchases Plummet by 40%
KhunLA replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Most of my favorites are still busy. Provide good food @ good price, and you're successful. Not just local, as when O&A, if convenient, we'll support old favorites. -
I find that to be a good thing, and will build character while preparing them for the future workforce. May even learn a valuable trade. I worked while in high school, illegally till 0100 hrs on school nights and back to back 12 hr shifts on weekends. All by choice, simply because I wanted to earn money, 'legally'. Other option was being a criminal. Guess it's not for everyone, but gave me some good work experience & ethics. Teenagers need to prepare for the real world, not be cuddled. Even better if they are self employed at an early age. Wish I though of that earlier. Wouldn't have wasted more than a few years being an underpaid, unappreciated employee.
