Why do people move to Thailand to discuss politics so much?
KhunLA replied to Harrisfan's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub

Corrected ... only bad in congested cites. Along with timing is everything. Weekends & rush hour should be avoided most places, worldwide. Corrected above, as HH, Lopburi are congested cites. Been a while, but I didn't think Mukdahan was bad. Don't forget, since you are in the traffic, you are part of the problem, not the solution.

"Harry and Prince Seeiso have left their roles, along with the entire board of trustees. In a joint statement, they expressed" Read like an all in agreement ... but the hate of Harry is laughable. This reads like a polite way of stating, the 'funds' were not going to where they were suppose to... ... "we will never forget what this charity is capable of achieving when it is in the right care,โ

Maxine Waters Targets Melania Trump in Fiery Speech
KhunLA replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I guess that joke of a politician has seen her name in the press lately. Those 5 minutes are over already, so go back to your hole. You'd think she could think of something better to do with what little time she has left. Must be sad being a has been for so long. -
Is the Dollar safe?
KhunLA replied to Serenity_Now's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Sterling & USD are 2 different scenarios. EU depending on UK's financial contribution, and needed to give the UK a good spanking so no other countries tried to repeat. The USA would benefit from not contributing to the world, as the world's police force and start manufacturing from within again. USA doesn't need the world, as can feed and energize itself, unlike the UK that depends on imports. USD is very safe, and in a state of isolation, the exchange rate would be irrelevant.- 60 replies

"I'm considering living there for a while" ... ... Then don't buy, as you can't anyway, unless a condo, and short term, that's usually at a loss. Fools folly if never lived here, in TH, already. So 'RENT' If wanting to avoid smog season, or minimize it, then Chumphon or below. The rest is personal choice, and doubt if your interest would align with mine. Good luck.

Of the 50 years adulthood, 20+ years of those were living alone, by choice, and at few different locations, state, and 2 different counties (USA & TH). Enjoy relationships, until I don't. Living alone is fine, and quite enjoyable. Never lonely, or without company when wanting. As stated, need to be secure with yourself, and not an introvert, if going to be happy, for me anyway. Ability to self entertain, and get out & about locally and not be sedentary. You'd be amazed how many are like minded like yourself. If not meeting the present wife, while not looking for a relationship, then it would be almost 40 years living alone.

As the topic says Pets in Thailand
KhunLA replied to still kicking's topic in Plants, Pets & Vets in Thailand
Don't know any Thais like that, or mistreat any animals. The opposite mostly, and give soi / stray dogs free range and even feed them, if they behave themselves. Also couldn't be around a person like that, family or not. -
Only got 7 FB friends, and pretty sure they'll all know when I die. OK, 6 if you don't count the dog. 4 if you scratch the wife & daughter. Leaves brother & wife, another SIL, and ex wife #2. All 4 in USA. Social media ...

Seems to be what forums thrive on ... click click click I'm surfing while baking some Rye bread. Looking for a place with a view to kill a few days, within 300 kms of the house. Not having much luck, as been exploring the same area the past 7-8 yrs, and nothing perking my interest. Can't go too far, too long, till the rains kick in, as the garden will get too dry, even with the self watering lines. Along with things need to be picked when ready. Might have to change tacks, and pick something 'in town' instead of surfside or in the hills. With the smog, not much of a view anyway. Come on rainy season edit ... maybe I should have read @BritManToo's post first ๐ -
That's not saying too much, considering some of the crap movies grossing 100s of millions of $$$, and highly rated, that I wouldn't spend $5 to see. If not for torrents, can't think of a movie of late, I'd pay to watch, even the 100 baht discount rate at theater.

Since we're on the road for 3+ hrs, it's also time for a munch, especially 1st or last leg of any O&A. As I'm not a brekkie person, and usually have 1st meal about 1100-1200 hrs, which is about 3+ hours after we leave the house. Along with seated for long time / distances also isn't recommended for us 'mature' folks, to avoid DVT, same recommendation for those on long flight, get up and walk around. Wife, dog & myself, one of us is already ready to P, at the 3 hr mark, if not sooner. Since there, might as well munch, and takes nothing to just plug in the car, 1st thing, while doing. When we're done, then the car is back to 90+% and we're good for the next, usually shorter leg, and check in to hotel, about 1400, or earlier if allowed. Rare occasion and we may make another 3 hr leg, but that really is rare, as my back isn't up to that these days. Days past, and 16-20 hrs on the road wasn't rare for me, when playing truck driver. Especially the Philly to Miami run, and simply take a short nap, a swim, a munch, and return to Philly. Even with the ICEV, and 3+ hr was always our limit. Never in a hurry to go anywhere in retirement. I last longer than the wife anyway, on the bladder range. Prostate isn't a problem with me. MG makes an EP model ... ๐

My wife went to the dentist - Not sure what to do next.

Actually cheap for an implant, as I was quoted 40-60k. -
Spec'd fine when compared to others at the same price point, Neta V for example. 49kWh battery is 3+ hours on Thai roads, with a good reserve, and a break is always welcome at that point. Our ZS is only 50kWh, and more than enough for our 'bladder' range. A 60kWh battery would be nicer, but we'd still be stopping after 250 kms, as we average 80 kph on the highways, if lucky. Agree, and exactly why we didn't get the 'X' model. Featured packed for only 70k more, but definitely didn't want the sunroof, along with the extra electronic, we don't or wouldn't use. They are usually the complaints from owners of all vehicles. The more bells & whistles, the more things go wrong. We don't use some of the features we have now. Main concern beside the heat from sunroof, was 2 drivers, constantly adjusting the 'electric' seat, and only a matter of time before it craps out. No thanks, especially if it craps out after wife driving, then would have to get fixed.

Yes, for a 3rd world country, and just 3 years into the BEV market, TH has done and amazing job. Especially with the charging network. Not the fastest cables, but more than enough units, and speed. Our ZS only accepts 76kWh anyway. 2022 (May), when we ordered the ZS, BYD's Atto 3 was just being available at the same time. Along with GWM (Ora Kitties) also hitting the market. No dealer networks yet. MG had little to no real competition then. What a change in 3 year.

Yep, the vid I posted above points out why Tesla is the go to BEV, since having a charging network in the USA. A new wrinkle, China (BYD) was reported with stating, they are concerned about USA pinching their tech, if they start importing into the USA. Though not sure that's too believable, as BYD is readily available in Mexico. Plus Tesla is open end about their patents, so the tech is available. BYD may be more protective about their battery tech, but again, nothing to keep USA makers from simply buying in Mexico and copying the tech. I think it's most big oil & gas control, same as why solar is so expensive in the USA. I priced our solar system for Philly area, and it's 3X the cost Lot of that is probably labor cost, and simple price gouging of anything, that saves people money in the future. Easing Alcohol Ad Rules May Boost Small Producers in Thailand
KhunLA replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
As long as alcohol & tobacco products are used it movies & TV series, you really don't need to advertise, as that is more than enough to influence people, to copy people they admire. -
Just a matter of time, till they, ICEV, become collector items. Apparently faster in TH, then some other countries (USA) still dominated & controlled by big oil & gas. When the BEV & PHIV pick up hit the market in force, ICEV are in deep sh!t I just saw a Mazda 2 promo, and the EV price war, pricing, taking it's toll on the ICEV market. About 150k off the olld price of 600k, now 459k .... OUCH Not leaving much for profit, if any, as the main components for ICEV aren't coming down in price. That's just a bit more than ours cost in 2012, 415k, when the 100k excise tax rebate was in effect. Our 2020 MG ZS (ICEV), was on sale from 739k to 695k back then, and now the 'D' model is 599k. Glad we sold when we did, as a 5 yr old ZS wouldn't bring 400k now. And that was a buyers market during covid.
