Why you should never leave a negative hotel review in Thailand
KhunLA replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I appreciate negative reviews, as a heads up, and taken with a grain of salt. Usually read the negative ones, mostly, after a few glaring ... "OMG-must try" reviews. Photos are more important, and # of reviews. Most times LAZ & TA reviews are totally useless...IMHO. Gmap being my main research tool. -
Pattani conflict escalates: Negotiator killed
KhunLA replied to snoop1130's topic in Southern Thailand News
A reply last Saturday from newnative put the thought back in my mind. I think the only 3 or 4 provinces I haven't visited yet. Every time I think about it, I talk myself out of it. Such as last month, while on Phuket ???? I like 'less travelled' and all the photos I see of, look nice. We easily self entertain ... and finding a good beef massaman & roti shop would simply be a plus. A few snaps of birds that don't get much further N would be real nice. Add to my collection. -
Why do tourists go to the same 5 or 6 places
KhunLA replied to bignok's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
That's a case by case scenario. I'm buying a house, car, motorcycle & other toys whether in a relationship of not, and had before current wife. Always had before my relationships, with 1 exception. If we get along and 'I want to share these', then fine. If not, there's plenty others that will or I'll stay single, as makes not difference to me. I don't do P4P, in any aspect of it. I'll share with a like minded person though. Don't know what that has to do with tourist going to the same ol'. You might want to read the thread topic. -
Civilian-led solution needed for permanent peace in the deep South
KhunLA replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
One solution ... stop harboring the terrorist and report them to the police/army Come together and stop living in fear. Help the army rid the terrorist. No quarter, no place to hide, make it dangerous to be terrorist. They are extremist, and don't only attack military targets, or non Muslims. They kill anyone, any religion, Muslims included, school kids, teachers, doctors, vendors/store owners (if doing business on Friday) as I read about that one, and just silly, religious fanatics. Spoils of war, history, get over it. It's part of TH, accept or leave, rather go back to Malaysia. -
Why you should never leave a negative hotel review in Thailand

I have, and simply need to word it correctly. You could even make it comical ... with praise. ... thank you for not supplying toiletries, as we travel with our own. ... thank you not changing the soiled sheets/bed covering, as we travel with a top sheet. ... thank you not providing water to drink. ... so glad your restaurant had very small portions, as my spouse is overweight. ... thank you for not providing a lift. ... as all these keep your overhead low, and we didn't mind paying just a bit more than the other hotel that do provide those extras, as we only like walking up the 5 floors of steps, instead of using the elevator, for needed exercise.- 150 replies

Obviously, if you're falling off a balcony, your judgement was impaired. Simply using A/B levels for a DUI, would be sufficient to deny...IMHO As they are set, for the limit of judgement and or reaction time while driving. Above the limit, and you'd be considered 'impaired.' And that limit isn't very high, so yea, if you sip a few on holiday, skip the travel ins.

Pattani conflict escalates: Negotiator killed
KhunLA replied to snoop1130's topic in Southern Thailand News
hmm ... maybe I'll wait till next year/rainy season to go south. See how the withdraw of military plays out vs increased terrorist activity. -
too many variables, not enough info, to access the situation and give advise. Assuming some major property damage done and on vid. And you/friend think if not arrested/jailed/deported, offender could become very violent toward you/friend and cause serious, bodily harm. Can't see complaint about property damage getting someone immediately jailed without bail or deported without court date, so they would be out, and free to retaliate if wanting. Are you prepared for that ? That's your answer, a question only you can answer.

If nothing is sprouting, or the smell isn't off, it's fine to me. Nothing last that long in our frig. Especially with a dog in the house. 3-7 days would be a ballpark idea, depending what it is. Our problem is fruits & veggies, uncooked, as they seem to turn fast here.

I'm not buying the 'balcony's fault' either. Hard to believe people still blame the balcony, as yet to encounter one that I thought was too low, and I'm far from from short or tall, 175cm. A few with shaky railings I wouldn't trust, but nothing I'd come close to falling over. You're on a balcony, you use caution, you're crossing the street, you use caution. Those 2 'accidents' are simply too easily avoidable. Only construction issue I have, is width/depth of steps, some quite shallow for a size 12/44 to walk down, and I need to step sideways ... a lot, or I'd slip off the edge of the steps. That's worldwide though, a bit more so here.

You really never heard of the monkeys @ Lopburi ? Best to be avoided, as they've taken over, and take 'aggressive' to a whole new level.

Florida Man Governor DeSantis Releases Extremist Anti LGBTQ Ad
KhunLA replied to Jingthing's topic in Gay People in Thailand
Jenner is a poor choice for that ad, since undergoing surgery. Never understood the male/female toilet thing, and always thought they should be unisex w/CCTV for security, unfortunately, with today's pervs. Remember 1st time here/TH using and chickie came in to clean, inspect while I was using. Seemed strange at that moment (of entry) but not like she could see me using the urinal or if in a stall. So why not. In USA, you'd hear a voice checking to see if anyone in the toilet area, and staff would wait till empty. Why ? Remember at concerts in USA, women would constantly come into the men's toilet, as women's always had a line out the door. Nobody cared. If a man did the same, used the ladies room, expect to be arrested or evicted from the building ???? -
In Total, 64 Deaths in 4 Months From Phuket Road Accidents
KhunLA replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Almost had an oops the other day, on scooter, coming out of local park, about to cross 'one way' lanes to the over pass lanes, also one way. Looked left anyway, nothing suppose to be there and there wasn't, then looked right for oncoming, 1 scooter, it pass, then I proceeded. Food delivery guy blew by me from the left ... WTF ... you A-hole. I stopped just as I started, and about 1 meter from collision. Then thought to myself ... WTF ... you A-hole, how could you not look again before proceeding. I know better. That was a close one, as probably spooked him as much as me. He had no time to react, if I continued. Be Safe ... look, then look again, and a 3rd time would never hurt -
Doesn't take much of a guess. Falling off a balcony is not the easiest thing to do. BUT ... add a slab of beer, and it apparently is quite common with tourist. Not a whole lot of reasons left to deny a claim. Agree with others, it really is silly to have travel ins, at that age, on holiday, as myself, would always have alcohol in my system. From sipping with meals, to full on party mode while on holiday. It's simply what you do when a youngin, or what many expats continue to do in retirement/end of life, never ending holiday. Best escape clause there is for denying claims, and doesn't even have to be a high A/B limit, as a few beers would put you over any 'driving' limit. Can't fault the ins companies, simply good business, and protects themselves. If any of us were underwriting the policy, yea, you'd have an A/B limit clause in it also.

Agree Vientiane is Ok for a weekend, if that. Bangkok ... Most exciting ... nah As much as I like it, I wouldn't make a special trip to go there, especially internationally. It's convenient, if living in TH, and the only big metro ... that's it. Nothing worth going to see, if not in the neighborhood.

If Philly, PA, USA, it's a great small city. Was 25 yrs ago ????

Agree, and really enjoyed it

My stoneware pan had a glass coating, which started sticking, so I think it was compromise/cracked at spots. Wasn't a fan afterwards.

Go to PhiMai first, since smaller, and the museum is on the road into town. Many pass it without realizing it. No rec on transport, as self drive, but as suggested, surely your accommodations will know of.

KhunLA replied to bignok's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I go for R&R and landscape, view, a snapshot, sunrise/set at different location. Hopefully a snap of a new bird species. A market if interesting location, or I'm actually shopping/rare. That's about it of late. Wats & history ... done, not longer of interest. Nan will be quite nice for a few days. Same with the rest of the N that I haven't seen yet.
