  1. My sensor agrees +/-, with the 'local' numbers. Not sure where IQair sources there numbers, but usually don't agree. Not too far off though, most days. I'm getting pretty good guessing the AQI, by how clear I can see the headlands at the bay from the house, and not off by that much 10-15. We're usually a bit better than town / surfside, unless someone is burning nearby, rare, unless it's us, burning trash Need to make smokeless burn barrel, though we only burn a wee bit about once a month.
  2. Unless you lived in Japan, you probably never had Kobe beef. Had wagyu, and don't care for it. I'll take a good USA prime any day, over most others. Much more about who's cooking it. So you're saying high end Michelin Thai food, isn't as good as high end western food or cost the same News flash ... price doesn't always equal quality. I've eaten in high end restaurants, along with not so high end, and put out quality food just as good.
  3. Need to consider the source, and it is the DailyMail.
  4. No, but if handy, you could build a nice one, as all the sensors, and more are available. They all in 1 units are too inexpensive to bother. Unit I have is at least 6 years old, I think. Got it from LAZ, AliExpress or Banggood. They sure have gone up in price. Cheapest one on AE is 1170 baht.
  5. Again, has nothing to do with BEV or owners of. More to do with govt, way behind and people simply not caring. Every roof in TH should have solar. That's just common sense. Many of the owner's of EV on AN do have solar; off grid, off grid but conx, JIC (us), or supplement their electric with solar. I find those that are the most vocal and critical of BEV, environment issues from energy and or pollution, seem to be the most hypocritical, since not having solar themselves. Not rocket science, just common sense. BEV are simply more environmentally better, and when paired with solar, well ... nuff said
  6. Certainly a better choice than non BEV options, environmentally, if one even cares about, and I personally don't know anyone that does. Or they wouldn't be in Th if not born here, or walk and or cycle to get around, if they did come here.
  7. Shh ... they should keep it secret. Didn't they watch the movie 'Chain Reaction' https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0115857/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_in_0_q_Chain%20reaction
  8. A wee different buzz ... LSD zoom zoom Alcohol & weed, Zep, Pink Floyd, good Blues all work nicely. Anything else, too slow or soft, and I'll probably nod off.
  9. The 2 beef items I mentioned is about the only things I get, beef wise from Makro. I'll occasionally pick through the brisket and or trimmings of, if fresh and looking good. Have them grind that for burgers. Agree, don't know who trains the staff, but 'cut illiterate' sums it up nicely. Really don't bother with any other cuts of beef any more, as too iffy. Tough, too fatty, or grislily. I like Piranha sometimes, just to make Tallow from the 'fat' cap. Only Makro worth shopping at for beef, or anything, as the local Lotus's has got to be the worse in TH, and hasn't changed in 15+ years since arriving. Use to pop up to Gourmet Markets @ Bluport mall Hua Hin, but that's just about shut down, and 80% of shelves empty last time there. Rumor is Big C or FoodLand may be taking over.
  10. Don't know about the wine, but the rest available at Makro, and imported from OZ & NZ, as I buy the Harvy whole beef tenderloins, & Picanhas quite often. Along with NZ green mussels, and N. Atlanta (?) Salmon. Shrimp and Lobster (Maine) also imported. Not a fan of fresh water seafood, or warm water Lobster. And yes, use same for Thai dishes. Still live comfy & eat quite well on <20k a month. If you drink a couple nice bottles of wine every night, then yea, you might need an extra 100k a month
  11. AC is always on, 24C ish. Could be just us breathing, in air tight box during a 3hr drive. Sensor was sitting on center console under all the controls, in direct path of us exhaling, and the heaviest particles of air.
  12. ฿200k ... That's just silly. ฿20-50k a month, gets very nice housing. Why would anyone need ฿5k a day to live on. Is that 3k for companioship, an 2k for food & alcohol. Don't think that's fits the expat demographics for 'every day' living.
  13. You can buy all that here, and marginally helps the flavor, if you know how to make pizza. I make NY Style pizza, so want low fat Mozz. Good Chorizo cost 1000 baht for 1 kilo, far from expensive. Who doesn't put yeast in the pizza dough, and it's inexpensive here. I do a lot of baking, and bought 2 'bricks' of yeast a while back, and haven't even opened one of them. Only 115 baht each, and good for a few 100 pizzas. Expensive ...
  14. Apparently yours does have air purifiers built in. Ours do, and advertised as having. Kudos to owner for not going cheap on the AC 👍 Was at guesthouse at Chumphon this week, and older unit definitely did not have ... my PM2.5 meter showing shy of 100 in the room. Even when AC was running. https://aseannow.com/topic/1349253-expats-how-do-you-deal-with-the-toxic-air-pollution-in-thailand/page/4/#comment-19530186
  15. We do, live on 20k a month, BUT, everything is bought & paid. No mortgage, rent, vehicle loan payment, not even petrol or noticeable electric bill. Rent would add a minimum of 15-20k for same, as couldn't live in a box for 3-5k. Vehicle payment would add 10-15k, for 4 or 5 ish years, then none for 15+ years after. Health insurance would add 5-10k (?) a month, since 70 years old, if I could find coverage. So that 20k, turns into about 65k a month, if not all bought in already, with an oops fund. Hmm ... seems Imm calculated the retirement visa just about right, for a comfy lifestyle living for expat retirees. Go figure Counter to that ... millions live or exist, almost happily, in Thailand on <10k a month.
  16. Agree ... Somehow that fact escaped one poster ... go figure.
  17. VW definitely a death trap if in a serious crash. No ... fuel consumption was never a consideration when buying vehicles. A couple cars had really bad fuel consumption, but were comfy or fast. Caddy, Firebird, even the F-150 were crap on fuel consumption, I think. Also owned Mazda 323 & Maxima, so a wee bit better. Honda 750 & 900 cc, so much better. If weather was good, did a lot of cycling, and just enjoyable, nothing to do with economics.
  18. First purchased 1975 (20 yrs old) ... Second purchased 1976 ... 1950 Buick Special
  19. If a condo, why do you have a yellow book, and not a blue book ? Irrelevant, just curious. A will now would be a good idea. Line of inheritance in TH is spouse first, although ....
  20. " highlighting the enduring bond between the United Kingdom and the United States " That ended 249 years ago. Now we're just a tourist destination for each other, USA & UK.
  21. Bartering is trading for something. He is bartering with weed. He's either a dealer, buys & sell, with weed left over as a profit to barter with. Make no mistake, drug dealing is a job. Or, he grows the weed himself, and farming weed, is a job. So he doesn't live on ฿100 a day, as the weed has value. Quite a bit, depending on location and quality of. When I left the USA, a 1/4 oz / 7 gr was selling for $50 / ฿1700 If he's trading 7gr of weed for food, every week, then he's living on at least ฿1700B plus ฿700 (100 a day), so ฿2400 a week, ~฿10k a month. Instead of your imaginary ฿3000 a month. I doubt if 7gr of good weed still sells for ฿1700 also, so he spends, barters much more than 10k baht a month.
  22. Yes, read and agreed with @BritManToo post, and I read it as, if making western & Thai food at home, cooking it yourself, then it's cheaper than eating Thai food out. He didn't mention street food, but I guess if you made the exact same 'bowl of noodle' with same ingredients, it would be cheaper to cook it yourself. All things being equal, they are selling it higher than their cost, hence the profit margin, that you would save. Without using the petrol, or electric, to go pick up.
