I have a pretty good understanding of Thai and can understand taxi drivers and talk with locals. In order to learn any language you have to want to learn and most expats here think it is for the Thais to learn English. It isn't, we are in their country.

In the past I have been on tours of Thailand and the guides would in many cases tell you they don't know English very well. It wasn't a problem for me as I had decent understanding of the Thai language. However, anyone coming just for a holiday and getting a guide that speaks very little of the tourists language would certainly decrease the pleasure of the tour. Thailand needs tour guides to have a good command of the language that the tourists they are with use. Not a lot of good for a guide to speak Malay if the group is Japanese for exxample.

To integrate the incoming people need to have similar outlook on many levels. The people coming into Europe now have no intention of integrating with the people of the country. They come because we are an easy target and in the case of the UK they know the lefty lawyers will keep them in the country. In my opinion if you deliberately destroy any ID you may have then it should be an automatic refusal of entry.
