  1. I like the Nirun rental idea better. If a tenant could not pay rent you could ask them to satisfy the debt in other ways. One could deliver food and do shopping, another laundry, another unspeakable favors. It would be like a little kingdom calling on favors and collecting what’s due you, whereby you would maintain a ledger of dates and amounts owed and thereby do regular rounds of the property. In fact, thats what a “landlord” originally was. Lord of the land and the people on it. He got first dibs on everything the renter had or owned. It was not limited to money. You can imagine what he required being a lord of the manor and some of the goings on. Anyone living on the land was also subject, not just the renter. So wives, visitors, what have you also became the playthings of the master. What would you require, sir?
  2. There’s a certain subset of guys that like being nagged to do it. Like a mother figure telling you to clean your room, go potty, or whatever. I have seen these types in real life and find them pretty repulsive. Look for guys that are real unkept or acting kind of dorky and not very mature. They rarely act serious, are usually outgoing, vocal and loud and just seem like slobs basically. Kind of like a Homer Simpson.
  3. My plan is to return to the USA every 2 years and re-apply. I would go back that often probably anyhow. It’s worth the flight for me to keep the money working, rather then sitting in a dead savings account. I also have an empty property there I can stay in so it’s not much trouble. I also like to get stuff from the USA once in awhile. I wear a size 16 (50) shoe and don’t like flip flops. I get my glasses and progressive lenses in the USA also. Maybe a new laptop and cell phone. Just more comfortable getting stuff I really need there and bringing it over.
  4. Maybe has something to do with the financing and not the unit sales??? The profit could all be in the loan monies received. Big infusion of capital then the building is made of much cheaper materials then stated and the unit sale money is secondary. So delays don’t matter much either, or the financing money runs out or is used for other things before the project is completed.
  5. What kind of a man are you? You can’t find a deodorant? Get a grip.
  6. Most people there now are grand fathered into the old system where it was much lower.
  7. I use the O-A and like it. I have reasons for keeping the money in my home country and I need insurance anyway so no problem buying that. Of course, things could change if the insurance premiums went way up, but that could happen anywhere. I found the list useful. I’m not interested in “retiring anywhere”. I want a legal visa that works.
  8. Too small, broski. You would end up renting off AirBNB, cleaning the room everyday, and learning Hindi & Chinese. Long term renters that speak English can’t live in rooms that small. Better chance of buying at Nirun and finding a long term broke expat to rent.

I don’t want to snitch. The guy was acting a little weird (nervous) and I was thinking about why. I just realized it might be because he was at the till.

Are foreign owners of restaurants allowed to man the register and take payments, make change etc? I went into a restaurant and the guy was at the register. Is that allowed with a work permit? The only other people around was the cook in the kitchen and a server.
  11. I stopped using it at my last place. Reason was I kept getting bacteria infections in my ear. Itching inside the ear and some pain when pulling in the earlobe. Took me awhile to figure out what was going on. It was from swimming in the pool putting my head under the water. Drops from the pharmacy cleared it up, but I keep my head above water when I use the pool now. You need just the right amount of chemicals and somebody who “knows what they are doing” to keep the water clean. Anyhow, I used the Nirun pool only a couple times. Was always real crowded with lots of kids etc. I don’t like crowded pools and I’m not really in the best shape either, some people look better with their shirts on. In fairness to Nirun I did not get the infections there, it was at another place.
  12. What’s this dribble about needing no money? Just extending a tourist visa? it was my understanding you need a bank deposit for a retirement visa??? SRRV says you need a pension over 50 yrs old or $50k in their bank under 35 yrs old??
  13. I think you get some real sicko expats in Philippines. On a whole different level then Thailand or Cambodia, which seem tame in comparison. Not sure why, maybe because the visa is easier or it’s cheaper or there’s less people around watching ????????‍♂️.If “scammers” here bother you though, Philippines is much worse. I think customs or immigration looks on you suspiciously more for Philippines also if your going in and out of the USA. I could see them doing secondary checks etc if I said Philippines. Just a hunch.
  14. I loved growing up in the 80’s. I was in high school back then. I would do almost anything to live through that time again.
  15. Did you stay at Pattaya Pad? It was too downmarket for me, I never bothered checking out the room after I saw the outside. I walked around and there was an overweight burly guy sitting downstairs drinking in a tank top. He just glared at me when I walked by. There’s nowhere to really hangout at these cheap places outside your room so people end up sitting outside, down by the stairs, whatever. Nirun is a step up you have the pool, stores etc so can kind of avoid people you don’t want to interact with.
  16. Weird stuff. I have a relative in a relationship where you can’t use their first names. You have to say “they”, “them”, etc. makes me wonder if they have a problem with the family. It’s like they are disowning the family given name when we have get togethers.
  17. With an o-a I only got stamped in at the airport until the day my insurance expired
  18. Email the LA embassy for help. I did get responses from them.
  19. Step down. More trash, crime, etc etc. don’t go unless you need to.
  20. I think “house by the pond” has them for 20k. Monthly. Forget 10k sounds too low. http://www.housebythepond.com/accommodation/
  21. Is there anyone here who lives in Nirun? Please show yourself. You have nothing to be ashamed of. Please let us know how your getting on and if you need any help or assistance? We have people who can help you get nutritious food, medical care and get to hospital appointments if you need it. We are here to help you.
  22. When I lived there a lot of the guys did not seem like they owned computers or had recent cell phones. Or if they did it was some old model that they did not really use unless just for calls. The guys seemed too out of it to post ???? or be technologically literate however stupid that sounds. It was like old guys who were kind of confused and not real with it.
  23. Pretty smart actually. He used the victims desire to still have the 1000 note. No Thai vendor wants to hand back a 1000 note. He gave her the opportunity to believe she still had it by coming back a second time. In her mind she still wanted to believe she kept the note, even though she handed it back. Getting the 2nd drink let her believe she still had the note so she gave change. Sleight of mind.
  24. What about the nice beach and water, lack of crowds and cheap condo’s by the water??? I could care less if 70 year old expats are playing golf somewhere if I’m not around. I don’t want to be around “expats that fit my profile”. I want a nice beach with hardly anyone around, a nice cheap condo and ample food and necessities within walking distance.
