Shop mak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Showing outmost respect for Thaksin's ex-wife, and mother to Thailands future PM, I say this was a genius action. He knows where the real power is, so he act accordingly. Police General Surachate "Big Joke" Hakparn, know what he is doing. -

How do you think Thai people REALLY feel about Farangs?
Shop mak replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
The Twitter profile disappeared just hours after sharing disparaging comments attributed to the minister about "dirty and shabby farangs" bringing the Covid-19 virus to Thailand. https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/thai-health-minister-has-a-slash-at-dirty-farang However, none of the farang are wearing masks This is the reason our country is being infected all around. We should be more careful of the farang than Asians.” -
OP hasn't been online for a long time. For beaches I go to Boracay, Bohol, Palawan. Cebu is not a place I would go for beaches. Cebu beaches near city are located on Mactan, a distance from city center due to traffic. Public beaches are dirty, nice beaches are owned by hotels, entrance fee! Hate traffic??? Then Cebu is not the place. 6-10 am and 4-8 pm equal gridlock, and other times too. Air quality can be bad due to low quality diesel and the jeepneys. Cebu is overrated imo, lived there in the past. Boracay was very beautiful, but tourist numbers reminded me of Phuket. Bohol are beautiful, but slower pace of life.

1) Many foreigners prefer to stay near Ayala Center Cebu. Many hotel in walking distance. Monthly rate start from 30,000 Php. Some serviced apartments in nearby Mabolo area, 20 minute walk or 60 php taxi ride to from Ayala center. 2) Yes, but, some serviced apartments require a 3 months deposit, or a 6-12 months stay. Friends paid 32-36,000 Php per month, or more. https://www.tancorresidential.com/#home https://www.santonisplace.com/ There are more in same area, but my knowledge is outdated (pre covid). 3) Yes travel agents in Ayala center Cebu, and also in Fuente Circel can assist with SRRV. Expats I met had all used a agent, the red tape is huge. SRRV deposit from 5,000 USD (US Army) up to 20,000 USD. I guess you already know that you can stay on tourist visa up to 3 year, a short trip out and return for another 3 years. No bank deposit or insurance required. No need to rush to get a SRRV. I have friends living there, 9 years on tourist visa (3x3 years), but now get pushed towards SRRV by Immigration. Traffic gridlock in Cebu are horrible 6-10 am and 4-8 pm. Air quality (low quality diesel) is another problem to consider. Cebu cough is famous. Nearest beach at Mactan near the airport. Beaches of quality are owned by hotels and have high entrance fee. Free beaches are rocky and dirty. Expats there will advice you how to open bank account and get a driver license, without SRRV. Current expat community is very small, post covid. Contact hotels directly for monthly rates. Often less than any booking site. More information on the local forum https://www.philippines-expats.com/

Ongoing or returt trip ticket necessary?
Shop mak replied to michael888's topic in Philippines Visa and Immigration
It's required by Immigration. A very few reported on local forum that they entered the Philippines without a onward exit ticket, but a huge majority was asked for their ticket at Immigration. Rent a ticket is one option, or a actual throw away budget flight to Malaysia. On my 10+ trips there, I was always asked for my ticket.- 1 reply

Hit and run got me, I'm all broken!
Shop mak replied to BritManToo's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
Be very careful with morphine and tramadol, you'll be addicted in a few weeks (talking from experience). And (!) the 'little fella' become impotent faster than you can imagine, and take months if not longer, to be back in active duty. Another reason to stop these meds, as soon you can. Wish you speedy recovery. -

Admins and Techs: Font size must be increased, as it was previously. Please remember that many read the forum on phone/tablet. Not all readers have 20/20 vision. Font size is now so small that max font size or max screen zoom must be used. This has become a problem when change Tab to other websites, one have to downsize font size/zoom, again. This should be easy fix. 🙏

how to handle request of " no income declaration" from Thai authorities
Shop mak replied to fvw53's topic in General Topics
Got a message from my bank back home that due to FATCA, I was required to get a TIN number. I was not asked for income declaration from Thailand. Was warned about that money transfer would stop, if I didn't send proof of TIN number. Went to local Revenue office who wanted copy id page and last arrival stamp in Passport + Residence Certificate from Immigration, before issue a temporary TIN number, awaiting the blue card few weeks later. Cities can have more than 1 Revenue branch, and one must be living in their 'area', to be issued a TIN card. Different branches can have different requirements as I found out myself. Call first. -
Age limit for student visa? 50?

Make a Bid, before first date (WTH) Was reading in Isaan forum about nightlife in Surin. Followed a link to a article by someone who said he lived here 4 years (555) Then he listed his Top 3 dating sites for Thailand "On WhatsYourPrice, you can forget ghosting and long lag times. Connect, chat, and get started on your date ideas!" Clearly paid membership is required for read messages (unlocked messages). Then give a bid, before meeting in real life. She might be a stunner even a spinner, but she might also be a ... 2 times a $ucker? MEMBERS OF WHATSYOURPRICE ARE NOT SUBJECT TO MANDATORY BACKGROUND SCREENINGS BUT HAVE THE OPTION TO SUBMIT FOR A BACKGROUND CHECK AND/OR ID VERIFICATION. No, I didn't join.

I would guess USD 1,500-2,500 a month average. Some years ago, members here voted how much their pension was, try to find it if important. 1,7-3,5 million Baht? Never. Not average. Many don't even have $10,000 in reserve from my observations and chat. Or insurance. You been here since 2009, you know how many who rent rather than buy a condo. Often for a reason, they have small or no savings at all. Your 'not wealthy friend' should consider his age, health and future health insurance premium. If age 60+, I would say minimum 5 Mill.Baht limit. Include that in his budget. Visa, would he possibly need to use a agent or not? Another yearly expense that should be included in his budget.

hi, how is with the visa in phillipines?
Shop mak replied to parafareno's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
In the province I spent only 600 USD a month, including 2 trip to city supermarket to buy foreigner food. In City I spent nearly 2000 USD month, rent is much higher, dining in the malls, nightlife .. If you don't need comfort / luxury, but rent a moderate place and make most meals at home, you be ok with 1000 USD. What we define as 'good life', differ from person to person. -
