Stuff has broken within months. I won't bother trying to fix it. Its still usable for now but its probably headed towards the garbage. Basically a standard humanitarian feature of the vast majority of competing retirement visa programs internationally. The timeline usually from day one to 10 years with 5 years probably the most common. Not never. But yes I knew that from the start.

Rare but imagine you live to 100 and retired to Thailand 50 years before. You would hsve the same temporary status as a new 50 year old just off the proverbial boat. You would likely have no connections left back in your passport country. That seems insane to me but that is the system.

Legal status yes but only one year at a time. Rules subject to change at any time. So no real residence SECURITY. So in essence a very long staying tourist.

Talking specifically about retirement extensions. No path to permanent residence from that status. What bites is lack of longer than one year residence security. Immigration can change the rules for retirement extensions at any moment and changes will always shake out some people. It's obviously much more desirable to not be subject to annual applications.

That's a dish that I totally miss! (New England.) I looked into recipes, and they didn't seem viable for me to try. I've tried a few horrible versions in Thailand that weren't even close. Campbells cans don't cut it either. I saw it on the menu of good place (very expensive). I might try for my birthday but I expect to be disappointed. Maybe a good opportunity for a place with a good chef to do it right to market to American expats.
