Home immigration checks may be on the uptick
ukrules replied to markwhite's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
The interesting thing here is that home visits are not usually done for those who are working, are they? This suggests to me that they're operating outside the law. They're in for a shock if they turn up at my door as I know there's absolutely no grounds for a home visit.- 125 replies

Visa exemption extensions changed?

Yes, it's only a problem if they ask for it, at which point it becomes a big problem if you don't have it. -
Criminal Background Check and Elite Visa

You don't need a police check to get a TE visa, it's not part of the application process. -

That's right. I think it's to keep the wanted criminals out, nothing more. -
Criminal Background Check and Elite Visa
ukrules replied to JessabellHeart's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Don't sweat it at all - they don't do any kind of proper background check. They will check to see if you're on any wanted lists that are shared internationally and perhaps check to see if you have any criminal history in Thailand - but that's about it. The only kind of background check that will show up what you're talking about is one that you have to do yourself - and they don't ask for this kind of background check. I know this 100% as I've done it myself. When you apply for one of the visas that requires a background check then you're going to have to go to the hassle of getting a 'proper' background check in your home country - which I believe involves giving your finger prints to the FBI in the US and waiting a while - you need this for some working visas I believe - that's a completely different process than they do when applying for the TE visa. You just fill out the form and they either approve you or they don't and they don't have the ability to do the kind of background check on you as that is something which you need to initiate yourself - so you would know about it I'm from the UK and the only way to get the equivalent is to do it yourself via something called the Association of Chief Police Officers - they offer a 'police check' certificate. This has never been requested when I've took out a TE membership and I've done it twice so far. So just to summarise - you don't need the full FBI background check that certain other visas do require when applying for the Thailand Elite visa so you can disregard anything that sugests going down that route. It's not relevant to the TE visa - I believe it would be very relevant if you were applying for a teachers working visa - but that's a very different system entirely. -
Covid-Infected Security Guard Dies At Factory Booth
ukrules replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It's unlikely that such clarity is going to be available. There's another case mentioned in a link on the same news source, this one : https://thainewsroom.com/2022/11/24/covid-infected-thai-man-dies-while-working-from-home/ Here we have a 38 year old man who was working from home after contracting covid He died on November 24 According to the article he contracted covid on Sunday Nov 20th which was 4 days before. We've seen how covid works over the last few years, but we're supposed to believe that this 38 year old man caught and died from covid in just 4 days, lets be generous and include the day of infection AND the day of death - making it 5 days flat. Based on everything we know - that's not how covid works, is it? According to everything I've read there is an incubation period which can be anything from 2 to 5 days (perhaps longer in earlier versions) but this guy both caught it, became ill and subsequently died from the infection in just 5 days? This kind of thing makes me think that covid may be much more prevalent than they know, or than they say. Or the nature of covid has changed beyond recognition - that's the main concern. -

Elon Musk says Twitter will offer 'amnesty' to suspended accounts

You're absolutely correct on this point. At the moment these companies tend to be small and lack massive funding. Do you think the worlds richest man (on paper at least) could change that if he chose to go to war with Apple and Google? I think you know the answer and it's what I said - he could acquire one of the Linux phone companies and then spend hundreds of millions of dollars developing it - just like Google did with Linux when creating Android and Apple did with BSD when creating MacOS/IOS. That's what Elon Musk does - he buys companies and changes them. -

You've heard of MacOS / IOS right? It started off being built on BSD. Tiny fraction - don't make me laugh. Half the world is using it in one form or another. -

I think it's quite obvious how he would approach the issue. He would buy another company which is already doing it and rebrand. That's what he does and always has. -

Yes makes sense, there was no Uber in Hua Hin if I remember correctly but once Grab took over they rolled it out here. So the question is - does Grab still operate in Pattaya? -

Uber was bought out by Grab in Asia which is still in use. I used it here in Hua Hin a few weeks back. Isn't it available (Grab) all over the country? I've never heard of this 'Bolt' before so I wonder if it's a regional thing. -

The far left has been exploiting Twitter for years and having anyone who disagrees with them banned. This is now being reversed and they don't like it. Quelle surprise.- 334 replies

Thailand going cashless. Are you for or against it?
ukrules replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
My point is, for the vast majority of people - there is nothing to control. It's like controlling a lump of rock - completely and utterly pointless.
