  1. I don't use Alexa or Siri. I cannot see how that affects me. I have just done a simple test with my smartphone on standby as usual and my computer is using Google Chrome. The silence is deafening. I suppose that it may work on a smartphone, if 'show my location' and either Google's Alexa or Siri is on at the same time. As I don't use any of them it doesn't seem to happen to me. If you use them, perhaps switching them off when not actually in use, may help
  2. Do you have a link for that? I ask, because I have not seen anything about it in the articles that I have read.
  3. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/TTBOMK I had no idea either so I did an internet search. TTBOMK (not comparable) (Internet slang) Initialism of to the best of my knowledge, indicating uncertainty in spite of having some knowledge on the subject.
  4. I will make no response to these links. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-67390514 Rishi Sunak has condemned "violent, wholly unacceptable" actions by far-right groups and "Hamas sympathisers" after protests and clashes in London. About 300,000 pro-Palestinian protesters marched to call for a ceasefire, in the biggest UK rally since the Israel-Gaza war began. Counter-protesters made up the "vast majority" of 126 arrests on Saturday, police said. Scuffles first broke out shortly after 10:00 GMT as police attempted to stop a crowd of people carrying St George's flags marching along Embankment towards Whitehall where the Cenotaph - the 103-year-old war memorial - is located. Officers faced aggression from some of the counter-protesters - who include some far-right groups - near the Cenotaph, the Met said. The group, which had been chanting "England 'til I die", pushed through the police barrier, with some shouting "let's have them". However, a two-minute silence held at the Cenotaph at 11:00 GMT to mark Armistice Day was observed "respectfully", police added. More than 80 counter-protesters who "tried to reach the main protest march" were arrested to "prevent a breach of the peace", police said. Ten others were arrested for other offences including possession of offensive weapons, affray, and possession of drugs. Scotland Yard said many of the counter-protesters arrested were connected to football hooliganism, and some of them had previous convictions for football violence. At one point the march, organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, extended from the Hilton Hotel in Park Lane to the US Embassy in Nine Elms - a distance of roughly 2.5 miles. Organisers believe 800,000 people attended but police estimated 300,000. The despicable actions of a minority of people undermine those who have chosen to express their views peacefully." He said the clashes "utterly disrespects" the honour of "our Armed Forces", saying "that is true for EDL thugs attacking police officers and trespassing on the Cenotaph" and also for "those singing antisemitic chants and brandishing pro-Hamas signs and clothing on today's protest". No major protest is scheduled to take place on Remembrance Sunday, although the policing operation will continue with some 1,375 officers deployed amid commemoration events in the capital. https://www.bbc.com/news/av/uk-67393758 There is more to read and see in both links.
  5. I would not have classed that as insult. I would class it as a reminder though, and I would wonder where I went wrong. Then again I am not thin skinned.
  6. Engineers are working out how to get a second bill without mentioning the wine, so they can claim it on expenses.
  7. This is an open forum, and if you don't like the responses to your post you can always put the poster on ignore and not read their post. Many people on this thread disagree with a lot of my posts. I recognise that they have the same rights to post as I do. I either accept it, or simply ignore it. I know that their mind is firmly made up and will not change. what I try hard NOT to do is insult or denigrate that poster. If you don't like a posters stance on a subject, so what, it is HIS stance and not yours.
  8. That, I am afraid to say is something that you will have to sort out with HMRC. The DWP actually pay your pension and should notify HMRC of the amount. and HMRC should set your tax code correctly' For the last 15 working years of my life I was self employed and filled in my tax form on line. I carried on for another 5 years until HMRC took it over and during that time up to the current period both my RAF pension and my company pension inform HMRC and then HMRC alter my RAF pension tax code and leave my company pension at the 20% tax rate. You have all my good wishes in getting the tax rate set correctly, and TBF to them, once it does get sorted, they may reduce your tax payable to zero, or perhaps you will get a tax refund in the form of a cheque. They are unlikely to pay interest on that amount. The best of luck to you.
  9. TBH if it were me, I would rather not have that sort of support and lose anyway
  10. I have just read it and now understand moderators a little better. I am glad that I never applied to be a moderator, as most of the time I don't read the thread through all the posts, and reply on the spot as it were.
  11. It must be a pongo thing as they were called snowdrops (for their white covered SD hats. I have no idea what the fish heads called their lot.

  15. That is why there are party list MPs.

  19. Very old wine skins and the wine inside is sour.
  20. I don't know why they bothering to ask the youths. There are youths already in jail doe daring to express their opinion. The last election results told them all they needed to know. Any opinions that the youth have will simply be ignored anyway.
  21. Actually it is on both sides and not just on Hamas. The main responsibility lies with the leadership of BOTH sides. Each sides leaders can and do have the responsibility to endless, pointless unnecessary slaughter, as do the leaders of China, the EU, Iran, Russia, the UK and the USA, in alphabetical order.
  22. And of course the IDF never try to destroy ANY civilian areas as that would be a war crime and a crime against humanity.
  23. And if they protest elsewhere in the City? There are always stupid people in any group (women are called Karen's, don't know what the men are called. If they protest at the Cenotaph, simply arrest them, fine them heavily, and if they can't pay, toss them in jail until the fine is paid. Internet search came up with this for male "Karens". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karen_(slang)#:~:text=Male context,-The term is&text=Numerous names for a male,Miss Ann was Mister Charlie. Numerous names for a male equivalent of Karen have been floated, with little agreement on a single name.[31][32] ‘Richard’ is the most popular male equivalent because of his vulgar nickname, although 'Ken'[1][32][33][34][35] and 'Kevin'[36][37] are also names used. The Jim Crow era male equivalent to Miss Ann was Mister Charlie.
  24. Like most traffic laws and rules in Thailand, if they are NOT enforced they will be ignored. 1st offence should be 1,000 thb and 3 points on your licence. No licence double fine and penalty plus car impounded. 2nd offence double the first. 3rd offence car confiscated and sold at auction. If the police are there and don't stop you. 1st offence 5,000 baht fine 2nd offence double the fine and 3 months inactive post 3rd offence sacking and no appeal Police station commanders 1st offence 3 month inactive post NO salary 2nd offence sacking and no appeal Apply that across all traffic offences and the country will be safer or there will be NO police left. Nobody will notice the difference.
