  1. Can thank purachai for that. Before he ran amok destroying farang nightlife Nana was pretty wild. IMO it has never recovered. Also because of the financial crisis of late last century. Before that happened Nana was full of expats working in Bkk. Many of them lost their jobs and had to go back home. Hollywood Royale was the best gogo in Thailand IMO. 20 naked girls on stage, hard core porn on tvs, and outrageous live shows. Bliss.
  2. Not sure if that is true ( if it is, ) or some thinly veiled sarcasm. I dealt with the education and the travel in the previous post, so about the yet..... I've always been a square peg trying badly to fit in a round hole and failing. It used to worry me when I was young and cared about what other people thought of me. Living long enough has cured me of that affliction ( my ancestors, peasants that they were, never lived long enough to learn that lesson ). While I had been working on the premise that human society is based on BS for some years, it wasn't till I read one of the many books about it that I understood the actuality of BS in our society- we are riddled with it. So I now operate on the idea that everything is BS till proven otherwise, and that goes double, nay triple for politics. The book is Double Happiness: How B******t Works by Joe Bennett and worth a read.
  3. Being miserable is an interesting concept. I don't think I've been miserable since I ditched the b**ch. I do get melancholy a lot, which is not the same as being miserable. I was often miserable when working because of the bullies, but being retired almost eliminates them. I get melancholy because of my Celtic genes, and even a song by Karen Carpenter can make me melancholy, not because it's a sad song, but I think it's so sad that such a talent was taken from us too soon. I hope you don't ascribe my education to my school days. Worst teachers on the planet. I educated myself after I left school. Well traveled, definitely. The taxpayer funded my early travels, with the military. Nursing gave me the opportunity to see places like Saudi and the UK. Nurses are in demand all over the world. I had the opportunity and I seized it with delight. Saw many countries on holiday, but then I discovered Thailand, never did get to Petra, or scuba dive in Aqaba. Thailand was the ultimate cheese for me, and I didn't need to look elsewhere. Pity it didn't work out, but that's what happens when us men put too much faith in a woman. Lesson leaned too late. BTW, emotions are just a chemical reaction to stimuli in our brain. Some can train themselves to not let events control their emotions, but I never was that dedicated to put the effort in. So I'll just carry on as usual, blundering along without a plan and hoping that life doesn't kick me in the backside too much before the last event, and I exit via a chimney. but you fervently hoping that liberals you will never know somehow experience deep pain and misery has been a consistent day-brightener for me. Those same liberals are busily destroying the world I grew up in, replacing the best times western civilisation has ever known ( it may have been less than great for the rest of humanity, but one must look after one's own tribe first ) with some ghastly mish mash of loony fads ( how many genders can you count now? ), conspiracy theories ( seen Chicken Little about recently? ) and awful noise masquerading as music. By the time they finish, the barbarians will just walk in to take over ( see the end of the Roman Empire to know what's coming, and they are already arriving, usually on a leaky boat, sans education, skills or compatibility with the culture of their chosen utopia ). Meanwhile, despite constantly banging on about our faux "democracy", busily attacking other countries and bringing death, destruction and despair all over the planet, usually based on propaganda and in some cases on outright lies ( WMDs anyone? ). I don't see how anyone can be proud to be western, anymore. Sooooo, if I wish some liberals experience deep pain and misery, IMO it's what they deserve. If it should come to pass that Trump is elected ( is there no one in the entire American political industry that can save us from having either of two grumpy old men as leaders of the so called "free world", and if you mention Harris go wash your mouth out with soap ), and U Tube once again has VDOs of the weeping liberals, the happy chemicals in my brain will be running wild with joy.
  4. In the mid 90s, Nana had customers from before 6 pm when the gogos opened, till when they closed, in some cases after dawn. There were 2 gogos that stayed open till dawn or after.
  5. Better than dying alone in one's own home, lying in one's own filth, because no one bothered to check up on you.
  6. Can't say that I feel very orgasmic, but I am very happy to be retired.
  7. There are undoubtedly success stories, but it's not human nature to come on forums and talk about how great one's life is, so it's doubtful there will be many, if any positive replies.
  8. My opinion of that woman can not be printed on here, but IMO the only road she should be taking is the road to hell. What amazes me is that she fooled so many people in other countries. One can only hope she follows Helen into obscurity.
  9. If we are going to talk about potential criminal politicians in the US, there are plenty to pick from in congress. Let's start with those that became unusually rich, despite loitering in Washington for decades.
  10. I have no affinity with Palestinians, and their future depends on more than my opinion, but I despise bullies that drop 2,000 lb bombs on defenseless women and children.
  11. Most of us knew that already, so the question now is what is Biden going to do about it?
  12. More like something out of a university, or a government department.
  13. Just to be clear, I spent a night with a woman committing suicide slowly IN HOSPITAL while I was working. Dying alone would be a sad way to go.
  14. My first ex's husband would have asked his worst enemy to go to the pub with him if he couldn't find a willing friend.
  15. Let's wait till the appeals have run their course before whetting the carving knife. That case was only the start of the process.
  16. Not a problem I had in nursing, as very few men went nursing in NZ. Just wasn't a "guy" thing. I started in the largest hospital in NZ and it only had 5 other male nurses, none of which I worked with. One of them went on to have a sex change way back when it was unusual. He even got an article in a magazine for it. Interestingly, I gathered he was ostracised by the female nurses after it. Normally I worked exclusively with females. It wasn't till I went to work in London that I had a lot of male nurses to work with and they were mainly from the Philippines. I did some hospital work early on as a very young man and never fit in. There was always something odd about hospital co-workers. Perhaps that is because of the sort of person that wants to work with sick people. Not many want to clean up people's poo and look after dying people. I once spent a night with a woman that took loads of panadol to kill herself- she couldn't be left alone ( Panadol will kill you if take too much, but it takes a long time to do so ), and another night with a young boy that was bleeding internally. How many people want that sort of job?
  17. What is so stressful about sitting in a bus or train? It's loads less stressful than flying these days. If tourists find travel is too stressful they should holiday at home. What is the point of going to Thailand if all they want to do is fly to a destination and spend all their time by a pool or on a computer ( or on a computer by a pool )? I loved traveling by train in Thailand. The scenery was wonderful, and had I flown I'd never have seen it. Is traveling the point of going on holiday, or is it about doing the same as they could at home, for a lot less money?
  18. Feel free to not read my posts. No one is forcing you to do so. Hint. AN has an ignore function which you can use.
  19. Do you need other people to be entertained? Some of us are self motivating.
  20. Well goody goody for you. You have no idea of my childhood and I'm not going into that on here, but you mentioned death ( unless you dog, kid or wife just died. ), and that is relevant. Some wounds don't heal. Seems you think everyone should be like you, but I'm very happy not to have 4 failed marriages. You come across in that post as someone that has no investment in your life, and live superficially. Few I've known are so flippant about life's problems. Have a nice day.
  21. You really don't get it, do you? Never mind, if you stay in Pattaya it's one less person disturbing the peace on a nice beach This is a photo from google images of Than Sadet on a busy day. Usually less people on it. Bliss.
  22. Disagree 100%. How can one relax in a hotel room with sound of traffic and loud bar music outside? The whole point of little choice is that it makes it easy to relax, without distractions. If you don't understand the attraction of sitting on an uncrowded beach and just doing nothing other than look at the sea, there is no point in continuing to discuss this with you.
  23. Hopefully more countries will follow their lead. Israelis need to know that there is a price for bombing thousands of women and children to death.
