Agreed, about (some) electric cars. Scottish friend bought a Tesla, left it parked overnight at home.. came back and the battery was dead - due to rain water damage, according to Tesla. Not covered by warranty. new system is costing him 20+k quid.

looks quite an attractive option. can you provide a link? and yes, I do hear reports about fake electronic products on Lazada. Its reliable seller of ''soft'' products, like shoes, vitamins for my dogs. Ive just bought a Kingston product and the advice i got from a learned friend is, in order to avoid fake electronic products, is to buy on Lazada (i) from the genuine/official store, not the ''mall' and (ii) if it says ''warranty by vendor'' - run.

I have enough of it, what are my options?
another up tick for Firefox, plus it is constantly improving its products. Its a non profit, i think. I use windows 11 OS - no problems, provided you do your maintenance. love Mozilla products. for email and vpn I use Proton. again, offers a non profit version.

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part I
this government is so desperate for new sources of funds that they are wiling to borrow helicopter money. we ain't seen anything yet (but then again, Thai stye, they may just set up a committee to study these new proposals).

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part I
ok, this is just curiousity - can any expat live well in Thailand on 65k a month. wife, kids schooling, car, health ins. house maintenance (alternatively, rent) ? To me, this is the crux of the matter - this proposed new taxation regime is just not realistic. I forecast there will be retirees up and moving. Not to mention how the international retirement planning magazines and websites will re-evaluate the benefits of retiring to Thailand. .it is a cluster(deleted).

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part I
what if the banks are obligated to w/h tax, on foreign source remittances?. Currently, the banks and the public companies deduct a basic flat rate of w/h tax on interest and dividend distributions. . as already posted just now, would immigration classify the 65k a month income requirement as net of Thai tax? (assuming you have other other income to declare) . a pandora's box. I wonder what % of wealthy Thais do not pay the correct amount of tax ? starting to feel grumpy 🙂

if things go sour, hope you're young enough to move. or go NR. we're on Retirement visa extensions since 1996, so a bit over the hill to consider going NR.

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part I
Canuck here, filing NR T1's annually since 1996. . I started to read the DTA. got a headache, as the Thai side of the treaty seems to offer very little guidance, vv Thailand. anyone offering anything, about Canadian pensions, esp. in the situation where they are tax exempted under the 217 rules. thanks. and cheers to the OP for starting this topic.

No need to send in the clowns. I wonder do people snigger behind the back of the leader of a democratic country which is run by a few alleged criminals?

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part I
agreed. If this clueless government invested in computerizing Thai tax returns; v.v. ID cards and all Immigration visas and develope a computer program to identify non-compliance, they would finance their helicopter money scheme in no time, without borrowing the money to do so. It is so frustrating, when you revert to logic.

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part I
thanks for reminding me. ever year my tax account never asks me for the interest that the bank pays on my 800k. but, they do deduct 15% w/h tax, so screw it. In the immortal words of our formerly fugitive PM, 'it was an honest mistake'.

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part I
Thanks for your thoughtful suggestions. However, we are in our late 70's early 80's. Consequently, I am comfortable that the amount of pension receipts we remit to Thailand annually does not exceed the total of our personal health insurance premiums (inpatient only,) outpatient costs and prescription costs. I think we're ok, when filing our joint Thai tax returns annually. My tax research (admittedly from a few years ago) found that there was tax relief granted to foreign Pension income in Thailand, if NOT brought in the same year in which it is paid in the home country. Although I'm a retired CPA, alothou it will be in a humble way, I see a challenge to follow developments in this area continuously. One of my specialized areas, when in public practice was implementing tax avoidance plans. Off topic, if I may; there are probably some foolish expats who do not report rental property or other income. The whole Thai tax system is, of course, dysfunctional.

try to get a grip. You are the one who posted a rail safety sketch about critical thinking, which has nothing to do with the OP. also,, try using spellcheck and a grammar checker. 1 in 10 of your spelling and/or grammar are questionable uses of the King's English.

I'm happy to be stupefied by the logic of of the English, cutting off your nose to spite your face. When polled, 70% of the Conservative party said that they would chose Brexit, even it it meant breaking up the UK. Talk about flat-earthers. All I have for you is pity, that you didn't have the wit, nor resilience to renegotiate a settlement, whilst staying in the EU. Try reading the Brexit Diaries.

oh! I missed that part - it was pure comedy then? as you can tell, I'm not English, akltho' I was well into UK comedy, ever since Spike Milligan and Co., did radio shows. 'Round the Horne' was one of my favs. as for Brexiteers - I though they left Europe because once they lost their Empire, they didn't like foreigners any more.

no wonder the English left Europe. I don't think there are too many citizens of any country in the EU that could be as insensitive - unless you're a Monty Python fan. 😉
