  1. Mine is 22 years old. Still sound and super reliable. I was back in the UK for 6 weeks in 2023 and used only public transport. I enjoyed it. Things had improved while I had been away. Each bus stop has a screen telling you where exactly the next bus currently is and it's ETA. The timetable was actually accurate not a work of fiction like it was in my youth. So , leave the house, walk to the bus stop and here comes the bus bang on time. Go to upper deck and admire the view of the coastline for 20 minutes. Get off in town , no hassle parking. It was an eye opener as to what humans can achieve when they get their act together.
  2. I would start by doing a Google search on local demographics. Search for information on the specific amper and dtambon you plan to open your idea. This will tell you what your potential customer base is. From that number consider how many are elderly or children that might not use your service. If people in that area are simple farming folk they won't be very interested in wasting their money on non essentials like fancy restaurants etc. If you try to do something that caters only to expats...very difficult as not enough potential customers. Over the years I have seen Thais and foreigners open businesses that were obviously doomed to failure right from day one. One muscular guy tried to open a small air con gym in the middle of town probably thinking that as the town didn't have one it would be a good idea. Lasted 6 months. Our local store does a roaring trade especially in the morning selling precooked food and vegetables to the local villages. Very cheap and within their limited means. Auto repair shops are always busy but that's another thing altogether. Building supplies also do well but needs big investment and lots of space. In the end though , almost all new business we see start up here fail. So, what you are left with is doing one thing well and selling cheap. In the mornings a woman does well selling hot Thai donuts. Another sells only Pad Thai from a cart. In a rural area where the people are mostly poor, doing business is not easy. My wife and I have our own little business selling online. Don't make much but bigger customer base so the profit pays all our bills.
  3. Save the planet. Support the best solution to concerns about emissions. Public transport. A long time ago , lead added to petrol was seen as a good thing. A long way down the road it was discovered it wasn't. It will be the same with EVs. Now they are still in the minority when compared to ICE engines but if we ever get to the stage where every poor man in every 3rd world country has some kind of EV...? Why must we each have our own personal transport ? For convenience. But with massive investment in public transport this might not be necessary. I'm not talking about busses etc but private vehicles owned by the public. You want to go somewhere you just go to an app , call up a pod car which will pick you up within a few minutes and deposit you anywhere you want to go. No need to share your ride , buy a vehicle , worry about parking , worry about repairs etc. You just get to where you want to go whilst reading news on your phone. Drunk drivers killing people a thing of the past. It's already here with ride hailing apps. If massively expanded, with automated vehicles the need for personal transport would be minimal. Ok ok....I'll get my coat.
  4. They tried that with Skynet and look what happened.
  5. Future tense ? I think present tense is fully justified these days. Still, on the positive side , better to have all the rotten apples in one basket place than spread out over the whole country.
  6. Easy and cheap to put a stop to irresponsible speeding but the outcry from motorists would prevent it. Put these in pairs 100 meters apart all along the beach road and speeding would be difficult and lives saved. BUT.....
  7. I convinced my wife to spend a few hundred baht on fake gold and keep it in her bedside draw in a red gold shop bag. Burglars are usually in a hurry and if they find this easily , they might be satisfied and make a quick getaway instead of ransacking the house looking for her real gold stash.
  8. Being alarmed by the steady influx of illegal immigrants has zero to do with racism. It is about the financial burden they represent to the tax payers and the additional strain they put on social services. In contrast, the expats retiring here are legally required to demonstrate financial independence and have not bypassed any visa requirements by turning up on Thailands beaches in rubber dingys. People who throw the racist word around in a demonstration of virtue signaling are often racists themselves since they wish to see every problem only in terms of race regardless of all other considerations.
  9. I'd show them my own message. ' I also am a foreigner here but I have money and am not going to give you the time of day. '
  10. Last years asylum seakers are becoming alarmed by the number of this years arrivals.
  11. Yup 5400 , that's a lot of semen for a family seaside hub..
  12. A name change is in order here. The United Dimdom would fit better with the reality.
  13. Eventually this will come full circle and it will be illegal to employ black people. They will have to be called colored people again. Until someone remembers this was formally objectionable and black will be back in favor. Round and round we go .
  14. Squeaky wheels get the grease plus the media like them for indignation they stir up.
  15. The Airport Immigration Detention Centre is reasonable and only for temporary stay. I think you mean the IDC in Suan Plu which really is an infamous hell hole. The various articles reporting this case seem so far to be contradictory . They cannot all be correct. One English language newspaper here reports : The suspect will be deported and sent back to the UK to face legal proceedings. This is not what has been said from the UK end of things. So at the moment , as clear as mud, Apparently , she did leave him in 2004 but returned to him after a month. He himself has said : ' He said there had been a whispering campaign against him in the Thai media but added: "I didn't kill my wife. Absolutely not. "I know the inferences are there but I'm just getting on with my life. It's been a long time."
  16. Mashed sardines and tomatoes on toast with black pepper
  17. He has been approached before but would not talk to the police. David Armitage was located in 2019 and denied any involvement in his wife's death.[24] The cause of death remains unknown, but the police have not ruled out murder.[25] In February 2023, British police travelled to Thailand to further their investigation.[26] They had wanted to interview David Armitage, but he refused to speak to them.[27] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Lamduan_Armitage
  18. Good news for her family. Nice cooperation between Thai and British police.
  19. I doubt very much if this will be a ' one off '. Computer systems have bad hair days too. Manual check by real humans might cost more in wages but at least they don't crash.
  20. Hmmmm. Don't think that one will buff out. Not even here.
  21. Stargate ?? Nah ............Skynet !!! Might as well follow the script.
  22. They will be getting plenty of wind ....and some ....when storm Eowyn hits land. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c78x4503neyo Stay at home warnings as risk-to-life storm to batter UK Millions of people have been urged to stay at home on Friday as Storm Éowyn is set to bring potentially life-threatening winds to the north and west of the UK. Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland are set to experience the worst disruption, where the Met Office has issued red weather warnings which means there is a danger to life from winds gusting at up to 100mph. Schools will be closed in Northern Ireland and much of central Scotland on Friday, while travel is also expected to be disrupted. Away from the areas expected to be worst-hit by Storm Éowyn less severe amber and yellow warnings for both wind and rain have been issued, with 11 warnings in place for the UK on Friday and Saturday. 23. Yup, he's toast in prison. I wonder how many times he will be pulped before he takes his own life.
