  1. Yes! Preferably open bars serving alcoholic beverages. A bonus would be if they could stay open until midnight but that might be asking too much.
  2. A friends daughter just arrived in Thailand about two months ago to begin a Mormon Church mission for 16 months. As it is all volunteer, immigration must be issuing some type of "volunteer visa". Perhaps UbonJoe could provide more info on this.
  3. First came in 1983 to visit my Thai wife's parents in Bangkok. (we had met in my home country) Moved in 1989 and stayed longer than expected until 2002. Since then go back and forth between the two countries. Will never retire full time to Thailand but will spend a number of month a year there unless the Thai government requirements become too aggravating to deal with.
  4. I've liked Business Class on both EVA and Cathay. Never a problem and short connections. Korean was ok but as others noted the food isn't that great. If I had my choice though I'd go with Qatar. Haven't seen one person nominate a US carrier. Perhaps they have something to learn from their competitors.
  5. I always enjoyed going to the Scala theatre. It was a nice environment and atmosphere. First went there back in the early 80's. Last time a few years ago. Sad to see it go.
  6. You can still do that if you are married. Just involves booking an extra ticket and giving up one of your suitcases for your wife to use! 555
  7. Great news! Have always had a good time there.
  8. I agree with a lot of the posters. Short term rental is the way to go in an area that you like. This will give you an idea what the place will be like after you buy. Always check to see how the place fares in the rainy season too. Don't want to be in area that has chronic flooding.
  9. Something tells me that in a couple of years they will track down some "unusually wealthy" people that were involved with this whole project.
  10. Things change, that is inevitable. Your ability to adapt and change is important too. You are also changing. Happens to all of us. Originally I was going to live full time in Thailand. Now I prefer to split my time between my home country and Thailand. I try to enjoy the best of both worlds.
  11. I just saw this video of a hotel on Koh Chang. Seems like a nice place. There are also some nice homestays in Chanthaburi that are nice. Koh Chang Emerald Cove Hotel Klong Prao ???????? Thailand - YouTube
  12. Gosh, I was thinking of purchasing the hotel but I guess I'll have to give it a pass now.
  13. Yes, lived and worked in Bangkok for 12 years at one point. Now I tend to bounce back and forth between the two.
  14. The farang oriented nightlife will return but it won't be as big as it once was. The Thai nightlife will continue on and be even bigger.
  15. Can't really blame them for not wanting to arrive until late 2022. A lot of places might be open then. Hopefully things will be somewhat back to normal then.
  16. We met in the USA where she was a graduate student. I was taking a senior level statistics course and she was the grad assistant for the course. Married for 23 years until she passed away in 2005.
  17. Confusing and ever changing rules, guidelines, mandates, etc. Undoubtedly there will be changes over the next few months. One has to keep in touch with the latest updates in this regard.
  18. If you applied for and were granted a non-O visa based upon marriage to a Thai that is good for 90 days upon arrival in Thailand, what would be the next step to extend your stay for 4-5 months? 1) A 60 day tourist visa? 2) A border run and then a 30 day visa exempt? (might be hard in the current covid situation) 3) Other possibilities?
  19. I would just use the hotel pool wherever you are staying. Go swimming in the sea when you go to the islands.
  20. Of all the categories listed, I guess I best fit the "adventurer" category. Although I could also be in the "I don't give a f*** what you think" category if that one ever gets listed.
  21. Most tourists will look at this announcement and say, "Well there certainly is no reason to go to Thailand if the bars, restaurants, and nightlife is still closed." Doesn't look like Thailand will be really ready to open anytime before 1 December 2021.
  22. Maybe bars and restaurants will be open in December after they allow the serving of alcohol. Tourists won't come if they can't go out to eat and drink.
