  1. The Bangkok Post (which must not be linked here) has an article about a scam call center in Cambodia near the Thai border. These centers were supplied with internet connection cross border from Thailand. On the Thai side the technical infrastructure has been raided and shut down. But there are no details about the nature/method of the scam gangs.
  2. What for are you digging out age old threads? This one from 2014.
  3. After a border run I applied for Non-O at Khon Kaen immigration on July 19. No insurance required. And the reason for the border run was exactly to get rid of the Non-OA status for which they require insurance.
  4. They are still issued at land borders while they have been abolished for flight arrivals. I have one from Nong Khai. Makes any sense? No.
  5. Good point! Somehow I managed to open the "old" site (as it has been for all the years). The site has been redesigned and the new site shows the same nonsense as the app. (those temperatures are very implausible) What a mess! https://tmd.go.th/en
  6. European forecast centers also show much less dramatic numbers.
  7. Again the website is very different but also raised temperature forecasts. Looks like this app is cr.p. https://www4.tmd.go.th/en/province.php?id=61
  8. Yes it's a GPO product (general pharmaceutical organization) and has a set price. But officially it should be purchased through a doctors consultation. That's what the pharmacies make the extra buck with.
  9. Padded jackets with fur trimmed hoods out!
  10. 21/14! Hmm. Strange. The tmd website is a bit more optimistic. European weather computers even more optimistic. I experienced 18 C in Pattaya long ago. No fun scooter riding in a thin shirt.
  11. Run over or crashed in car by brainless idiots on speed.
  12. For Android phones(!) there are apps that give precise numbers for the signal strength. I use "Network Cell Info Lite".
  13. You were faster. From experience DTAC is worse in remote areas. For me here much weaker than AIS. Can't contribute about TRUE.
  14. What provider is he using? I assume he receives a 4G signal. Serious antenna stuff needs to be placed outside and best on a pole (and directed, try and error). What's the next major city where you might find specialists/shops that have such equipment. Also worth browsing online. https://www.lazada.co.th/tag/4g-outdoor-antenna (change to English)
  15. Good point. The article is a general trip advice for US tourist. Not the slightest detail about specific routes, checkpoints, land border etc.
  16. With very rare exceptions (like the mentioned "King Taksin" holiday in eastern Thailand) office holidays are identical over the country. And the calendar can be found/linked on other immigration sites (identical).
  17. No idea what he has to do with THIS story/video? Made his way from the US to Russia and sure no stopover in Phuket.
  18. Correct. Simple careless turn in by the truck driver. Complete blind/blackout. You can't believe it except you have seen it. Driver unconscious or the infamous brake failure? It's a T-junction. So no way the truck could turn in at that speed (formula 1 like). The video link:
  19. Never noticed/heard before. Not in the calendar here: https://aseannow.com/topic/1243044-thai-holidays-2022/ or any other that I know. So as others wrote, closed on: Mon, Dec 12th (tomorrow) Fri, Dec 30th (Sat 31st/Sun 1st following) Mon, Jan 2nd But you can go on Christmas and bring presents
  20. I think the reigning world champion has. World champion 1998 and 2018. Two times European champion. England is a little bit longer away. I just forgot
  21. That makes sense. The infamous HW 36. Frequent accidents. Heavy trucks en masse.
  22. Sue but never heard this name before. And searching shows this thread as first hit ???? Without numbers it's a guessing game. Chonburi Rayong is 80 km.
  23. Interesting! Indeed 4.0 for cash, exchange rate 4.9. That's heavy.
  24. If your phone is not hacked/rooted you will not be able to delete essential stuff. Some apps can be stopped/deactivated but not deleted/uninstalled. There are methods to get rid of more bloatware but not trivial (developer mode. USB debugging, Android debugger on a PC).
  25. Yes selfish but I used every opportunity to travel during Covid times (before the grand opening in Oct). Just went through my pictures and I was surprised myself how often I traveled. I knew that this chance won't come back (hopefully some would say). From Jun 2020 to Nov 22 I did ten trips to Pattaya, one combined with Samui, one with Phuket. Christmas in Phuket, New Year in Pattaya. Won't happen again. And I regret no a single day. The last trip in November refreshed memory about crowds, jams, delayed/expensive flights etc. etc.
