Patience is not my strength. So today I drove to KK immigration and ask about the status of the application. And after a minute of searching in the file cabinet the lucky message: it's approved. Approval date August 2, Non O visa, permission to stay stamp until 30 October. So in the first week of October I will be there again for one year extension as usual. The "visa": much different from what a visa at a consulate looks like. It's stamped of course. Officer used about 10 different stamps to get it done. An exciting procedure It shows "The visa must be utilized on the date of it's issuance". And "USED" stamped on top. So it's kind of a virtual entry on August 2 although I guess that the 90 day report is due 90 days from the actual border run (July 17). Arrived about 9:30 at Khon Kaen immigration. It was very quiet. In/out in about 15 minutes.

A site like www.bbc.com is safe and encrypted. Can be accessed with a Thai IP. Facebook giving this error message? No way. Bypassing the trouble message with a VPN just covers a problem with your device or browser. That is well possible, although it would need to be checked individually site by site. Of course many sites do geoblocking (BBC Sports sounds like). There seem to many posters who manage their Thai bank account from abroad and no word about Thai VPN server. So no general statement is possible.

Yes, but how many sites have been left that do not encrypt anyway? And encrypted traffic to a server in Thailand? What kind of security do you expect in a country where there is basically no protection from government surveillance?

If you are in Thailand(?) what would be the attraction to use a Thai VPN? Little to none. NordVPN also has a Thai VPN server. It can only be of interest to show up as being in Thailand (geolocation). There is no effect on other VPN locations.

My experience at Nong Khai: officer didn't want me leave. Sent me to some room. ? Re-entry permit. Officer thought I had forgotten. No thanks! I had to persuade three officers that I want to cancel the visa. On return some raised eyebrow and I explained explicitly that I want 30 days to cancel the visa. No big hassle.

Same for me (50, 200, 20). So this seems to be the default.
