Will ETA improve the situation? Assuming they entered visa exempt. Having granted them a visa would be even a bigger joke.

Khon Kaen fortunately and not Jomtien or Bangkok. And as you can read above it's ok with bank statements in official form/print. I have decided to change to Kasikorn after the extension for their much easier handling of the statements. With them I will be able to do all necessary bank paperwork in the morning (same day) before driving to immigration.

From the DTV guide linked below ("announcements"): "It’s expected that you’ll apply for the DTV visa at a Thai embassy or consulate in your home country. " That's in line with what I understood.

Be aware that "VISA" stands for Non-O visa or one year extension. Officially not possible to get a license with short term visa/exempt.
