The Ukrainian refugees in Europe.
German borders are open. Poland free transit. 100 bus connection daily FROM Berlin TO Kiev alone. Ukrainian license plates on SUVs and luxury cars all over Europe. Frequent traveler on motorway Germany to Poland and Ukraine both directions. Germany gives every Ukrainian the full welcome package. Can settle, can work and/or receive benefits with basic money for daily expenses and support for housing/heating. Better status than an asylum seeker. 722'000 Ukrainians receive welfare money. Background check about their financial status in Ukraine seems impracticable. It's obvious that a significant number of them just come to receive the money and drive back home. Done and repeat. I would accept that Ukraine gets financial/logistics support to house real war refugees from the east in their own country. But what happens now is over the edge.

What's happening in Pattaya
Will be there during Loy Krathong on Nov 15. Mega event in terms of mass influx: Pattaya Fireworks Festival Nov 29/30. Will there be a US election/breakfast party on the morning of Nov 6 when the results come out? 😁 Just by chance I will be there like 8 years ago 2016 when a breakfast buffet felt like a Trump party. I am just an observer.

How to I get rid of this new left hand sidebar?
My method: I began reading AN on the PC browser in reduced windows size (width) not full size. Just fiddle and the annoying sidebar p.sses off. You have to fiddle with window width and zoom factor in the browser. I have reduced the screenshot size for readability:

It's a while since I went by plane and taxi but Tom Taxi always worked. Proper spacious limousines for 1000 both ways.

Banking service???????
Anonymous cash deposits are no more allowed since quite a while. No card no fun. Or follow other advice given above. A person with a Thai ID card can deposit cash to your account.

Internet connection
A SIM with a one month package does not cost a fortune. I suggest to start trial with AIS. I once had a DTAC one year SIM. On the road it had more outages than the AIS (GOMO) that I have now. To the OP: It sounds like the SIM is used stationery at home? In a SIM router or in the mobile phone? A SIM router with antenna and we'll placed can make a difference.

Is it bad for our mental health to consume too much news? Is life in ignorance better?
Too much news is bad for mental health. I recently started a "no news" after dinner practice. That includes forums. Saying that, I think that forums and "social media" are far more dangerous. In the evening I only consume entertaining/funny stuff. When a mate living in Thailand(!) bombards me with bad news from back home I mute him. There are exactly two news from home country that I follow: pension (rise) and value of the Euro.

Thailand prioritizes safety and facilitates travel during long holiday Oct 12-14
Nawamindra Maharaj Day Had to think twice. Translates for the clueless foreigner as: King Bhumipol remembrance day. Died on October 13, 2016. No disrespect but here there is no indication for a big travel home event. Will the 13th be alcohol ban?

Money changers in Pattaya
Just played with their exchange rate site. And I am astonished that booths in Soi 13 and 14 offer 2 Satang (0.02) more than others for USD. Maybe due to the competitor in Soi13/2 "Damini". Damini usually offers a up to 5 satang more than TT. Only worth an extra walk/ride for real big amounts.

Money changers in Pattaya
TT has now even a booth at the basement of Central on the beach. Open from 10:30 or 11 AM. Sounds like you want to pay the Baht to an SCB account. And of course SCB has a micro branch at Central. Passport required to pay cash to account (or ATM card at the machine).

Super dramatic warning for Bangkok. International weather centers forecast rain over the next days with amounts from 5 to 15 mm. Check back in two days.

Bangkok Bank not Recieved Funds From Wise.
Last transfer to Bangkok Bank was Nov 1 early morning. Arrived in the afternoon same day. In four years or do there were not more than 2 anomalies/delay. I transfer Euro from the WISE account. Transferring from German bank to WISE is a different story. Friday to Monday... At least one working day. Have you seen when the money arrived at WISE?

In other words: wonderful weather and no monsoon in sight.

Thailand Battles Monsoon Chaos: Floods Disrupt Travel and Aviation
From another news post yesterday: "winter" will begin on the third week of October and last until end of February Winter is always the best time for me. And the weather was not that bad in all regions. Floods mainly in the north. Phuket hit hard.

Thailand Battles Monsoon Chaos: Floods Disrupt Travel and Aviation
Intense monsoon rains currently?? Chaos? At Bangkok airports? Where and when? There has been intense rain and there are flooded areas. But currently and for the coming days there is little to no rain in the forecast except for some in the south.

Prof Brian Cox Declines Mars Journey, Prefers Moon Exploration
I am always puzzled when another "earth like" planet is discovered only a few light years away and makes a headline. Do they want to make people believe we can move there?? One light year is about 9.46 trillion km (9460 billion km). Voyager 1 traveled 24.5 billion km since 1977 (47 years). Voyager 2 is expected to "pass by" at a "nearby" star in about 44000 years.

Prof Brian Cox Declines Mars Journey, Prefers Moon Exploration
Better invest energy and money in improving life on this planet and forget about the pipe dreams of Musk et. al. I was a bit shocked that even cheered up Hawkings had propagated the useless resettle on Mars fantasy. So mankind is supposed to move to a freezing dust planet? Cross your fingers that the excessive population growth comes to a stop before all resources are used up. It's strange how little attention this - in my opinion - number one problem gets.
