Sanook reported that tourism has dried up in a small southern village where there is an ongoing case of a 14 year old who claims to have been gang raped by 40 men.

Boat operators in the picturesque rural area of Koh Raet at the village of Takuatung in Pangnga complained that no one is visitng any more causing them hardship.

The operators and the Phu Yai Ban want to assure tourists that it is safe and they can have confidence about the area.

The victim was raped repeatedly while her parents were out working in a case that seems to be mired in influential figures.

But now the people who rely on tourism have been moaning to Sanook reporters who visited yesterday.

The reporters found no tourists at all.

Boatman Chaliaw Romin said that before the story broke there was usually three busloads of tourists visiting the scenic area every day. This gave him 500-600 baht. Now he has nothing.

"It is still safe here," he said. "You can be sure of that".

Takuatung Phu Yai Ban Saman Chonkhaet said forty families and a total of 180 people lived there. He talked about the beautiful area and echoed that it is still safe for visitors.

But tourists have voted with their feet - hardly surprising given that it is an area with a small number of people and 40 men could be charged with rape of a minor.

The investigation continues.

BS.

The operators and the Phu Yai Ban will say anything to secure their income.

They will lie, deceive, and even worse just for some extra cash.

Wonder? Really???

That's like Susan Boyle coming out of Gregg's and then the next customer saying - Who ate all the pies? lol

The cops say they got 8 so far, so only 32 pies running around.

Yeah, makes me"wonder" too. Do the crime you gotta do the time.

For it to be 40 men in a small village it is more a community rape than a gang rape and, as such, the community needs to deal with this and face up to the consequences.

I am not one for collective punishment but when such a high proportion of the population there are involved they can't just hide from this and point fingers.

Assuming the girl is not completely lying.

Forty families, forty organised male pedophile rapists in a village of 180 people on an isolated island. They will all be fairly closely genetically related.

This is not going to be an isolated incident, more like a village tradition.

Get ready for the veil of silence and denials, as the men all group together, whilst the women are told to shut up or be beaten. Islam.

In a town of 180 we can be pretty sure roughly 90 are male, of those 90 males could we say 50% are adults? So at a guess, only are 90% of the towns adult males are rapists.

I don't know the case but that has to be unlikely.

Village with population of 180 people and about 40 families  and 40 rapists: do not need to be a math genius: a RAPIST in every family, simple math. The boat operators probably new about what was going on.

hope they suffer

180 residents means about 90 men. So, half of the male population of this village are serial child rapists?!

"It is still safe here," he said. "You can be sure of that".

Safe? Typical Thai response.

A good start would be for the whole town to find all of those men and hand them over to authorities, and let the public know that they won't tolerate such evil.

Alleged rapists!

Everything needs some kind of proof.

An accusation alone is not enough.

Hopefully.

This is so typical of someone who doesn't understand how to not be selfish. It might be safe for tourists, but that doesn't mean anyone wants to visit your rape facilitating viliage.

Clearly empathy and understanding is in short supply there.

"Why don't you want to visit and give my child raping village money? You are perfectly safe?" Wake up <deleted>!

This unfortunately show Islam and its codes of silence and intimidation in a bad light , the fact that is centered  on one village apparently shows a degree of culpability of the whole population of that village.

if they are losing money and incomes, look in the mirror, you will see the reason.

Did it ever occur to them that the Thais operating the buses/ticket sellers might have decided to steer people elsewhere? It's not real good PR for a bus operator who knowingly takes people to a place full of rapists.

Well well.  Now we can add Pedophile Rape Island to the list with Death Island. Just a couple more and we can get a true Thai Island Adventures tour organized.

If this is true....40 families with at least one man in most families.....it makes it appear that about 100% of the men took part in this crime.

Surly to God this cannot be?

and, assuming the normally accepted ratio of men to women in thailand, 47.7 %; you arrive at

40 out of 86 males; Ouch ! ooops, subtract non-adult males...; looks even worse
