Defence Ministry rejects rumours that Prawit held meeting with Thaksin in London

THE DEFENCE Ministry has denied rumours that its minister General Prawit Wongsuwan met with fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra in London, insisting that there were no reasons for the two to meet.

“Gen Prawit has said clearly before that he had not met or talked to [Thaksin],” Maj-General Kongcheep Tantrawanich said on Saturday.

Prawit, meanwhile, said briefly on a phone interview that he was just back from England. The general immediately hung up after the reporter asked about speculation that he had met |Thaksin.

Thaksin, whose sister, ex-prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra, is believed to have fled the country recently, was taking a vacation in London around the same time as Prawit was meeting with Britain’s defence minister and foreign deputy minister there.

The Defence spokesman insisted that the speculation was not true. Prawit had been in London for work and he was travelling with a big group of officials.

In addition, Kongcheep said he did not think Thaksin and Prawit were in London at the same time.

He believed Thaksin was there after Prawit had already returned to Thailand. It was impossible that the two had met, he added.

“The rumour sparked off even before Gen Prawit’s trip. And when he returned, some people spread the word again deliberately wanting it to be on the news,” Kongcheep said. “Anyone can think anything, but I insist that there are no reasons for him to meet with Thaksin.”

What was Prawit doing in London and why did he need a "big group of officials"?

What was accomplished with the "big group of officials"?

Who made up the "big group of officials"?

Who paid and how much did they pay for the "big group of official"?

These are more interesting questions than whether he met Thaksin.

They probably went to find out where the 20 suitcases of cash were deposited when they left Thailand the day before the coup. This was supposably cash from the Rice Scheme. I wonder who's account it was deposited in?

Why did he need a big group?
Pretty obvious. All Thais like to travel in groups, at least a pickup full, and the man in question needs more than that as he is such a BIG man!

"THE DEFENCE Ministry has denied rumours that its minister General Prawit Wongsuwan met with fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra in London, insisting that there were no reasons for the two to meet."

So they did meet, then. Interesting times may lie ahead...

Maybe not met but every chance there was a dialogue, then the denials of a meeting  would be true.

As with the collapse of the all the Communist regimes in Eastern Europe, the first you know that something is happening is when there's an official denial that anything is happening ...

I suspect it was the same "big group of officials" (38 delegates) who accompanied him on his "working" holiday jaunt to Hawaii last year. That trip cost 20.9 million baht.

Why go to all the trouble of being liberal with the truth when you can simply lie outright?

When you constantly withhold the truth, then there comes a time when even if you tell the truth, no-one will believe you.

This lot "cried wolf" too often.

Why was Prawit in London?  BANGKOK — Thailand and the United Kingdom will launch a new joint military exercise, the Defense Ministry announced Thursday.

That may well be the case. However, it would appear pretty coincidental by any stretch of the imagination, that Thaksin just 'happened' to be visiting London at the same time, ("or thereabouts" as we are led to believe), don't you agree?

So Thaksin is still relevant and get rid of Thaksin regime Bangkok Shitdown was a waste of tax payer money.

Ten years after being deposed, Mr. T is still the relevant monster under the junta's bed.  The somewhat zealous denials does raise eyebrows.  The resumption of participatory government and reconciliation may require some assistance from a foe.

Another expensive junket by Prawit & his bunch of buddies.  They don't need to explain why they have all these holidays at the taxpayers expense.  The Thaksin story is just to deflect any interest in his reason for going.

No, that cannot have happened, I was watching the F1 qualifying last night from Singapore and I'm 100% sure the camera zoomed in on the Red Bull Runner watching it from an executive box. I'm not making this up honest, it was him.

Did Prawit go to the US, Australia, China and Russia in preparation for joint military exercises?

Interesting times yes.
I should imagine that much needs to be discussed.
I wonder how the "deep silence" since Yingluck disappearance is being ensured?
