BANGKOK: -- City bus route reform will go ahead as the one-month trial run on eight new routes in Greater Bangkok ended last week, director-general of the Land Transport Department, assured on Monday (Sept 19).

He said the trial run of the eight pilot routes has been warm welcomed by the people and has enabled transport officials to gather information for assessment that could lead to rerouting the current bus routes, services, bus depots, and route names that are necessary for bus route reform.

The trial run began from August 15 to September 15.

How about some new buses? Does the government think these things can run forever? It's obvious no one in government rides on them. They're in a shameful state of disrepair though the mechanics do what they can. If you want to improve the image of the city, try replacing the buses. My suggestion is that the government begin a joint venture to manufacture the buses in Thailand. The city has how many buses? 3000? And after replacing them by means of the new industry and a newly skilled workforce, build them for export.
