I am having  a problem with pop ups  Thai adverts will pop up, when opening chrome browser with out me even opening a site. And when I open certain sites such as you tube, bangkok bank,  bangkok post and this site they appear to name a few. Facebook is  no problem, have pop ups blocked and ad blocker on, also Mcfee  virus protection and firewall protection both on. It looks as if some one has planted this on my laptop which is a Dell    inspiron 15, call the support line who had not got  a clue. So I would be interested to know any boffins out there got any ideas.

Not all "adblockers" prevent every ad. The one I have for Chrome is "AdBlock" 3.15.0. It is available free from the Chrome store and it works. Most ads are attached by "cookies" from websites you visit. To clear cookies from Chrome browser, click on the 3 verticle dots on the far right side of address bar. Click "more tools", then "clear browser data". In the new window, find "clear browser data" and follow the instructions for removing cookies. This will remove ALL "cookies" on your browser. This will require you to sign back into websites that use "cookies" to identify you, such as ThaiVisa. After clearing unwanted "cookies" a good ad-blocker should keep out unwanted ads.

Definitely sounds like you've got a PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) combined with a browser hijack, probably piggybacked to some other free software recently installed.

I'd first suggest you check your installed programs list and see if anything out of the ordinary got installed and then remove it.

I'd also suggest you visit a technical support forum and find their download section and run a few detection and cleaning utilities against your machine:

https://www.malwareremoval.com/forum/

the recommended utilities are

malwarebytes antimalware

malwarebytes adwcleaner

malwarebytes junkware removal

spybot search & destroy

superantispyware

hijack this

combo fix (Windows 7/XP/Vista only)
