Russian beaten up by lady boy and woman in Jomtien - but Facebook posters turn on the tourist for assuming they are Thai

PATTAYA: -- Thai posters on Facebook launched an attack of their own after a badly injured Russian tourist went to Pattaya police.

 

He said two Thais attacked him but several posters were in denial saying Thai people would not do such a thing. At least not without provocation.

 

While some, without evidence, blamed the tourist for starting it by "looking down on the Thai people".

 

One even suggested that some tourists deserved a good kicking.

 

The comments were some of the first to appear after a story on the Facebook page of "We Love Pattaya".

 

Many said the tourists have fallen out with Pattaya and don't love it anymore - and blamed the violence that plagues the streets.

 

"Rao Rak Pattaya" said that Alexei Chebotov, 44, reported to Pattaya police at 4am today after he was approached by a Thai lady boy and a Thai woman opposite Soi 7 on Jomtien Beach road.

 

They said the Russian national was out for a stroll going home to his South Pattaya room and had stopped to make a call for a few minutes. According to Mr Chebotov he was approached by the pair and said he was not interested in their suggestions.

 

They persisted and got upset when he turned them down again. Then he said the lady boy punched him in the left eye socket giving him a bloody wound. Then the female attacked him.

 

Pictures showed a leg wound as well as a shiner on the left eye.

 

Police said that it looked like they were offering a sexual service and were turned down. The tourist was not interested because he was on the phone, they said. So they took it out on him.

 

But rather than offering sympathy to a visitor in distress posters on Facebook launched an attack of their own on the Russian defending Thai people.

 

Female poster Ornanong Wiyaporn led the way: "How do you know they were Thai? Arrest them and let's see. The place is full of foreigners (meaning lady boys and girls working).

 

"Farangs just don't know - they think it is just Thais creating trouble all the time."

 

Another woman Ben Benjamas went further: "Some foreigners bring it on themselves and deserve what happens. Thais wouldn't do this sort of thing unless foreigners looked down on them first.

 

"Theft is another matter. In this case don't just take the farang's side - listen to the Thais too".

 

Tom Chuchart Patriya echoed those sentiments: "It may not be as it appears. The foreigner could have started it. Happens all the time".

 

Yui Shabuku said that all the tourists were disappearing as street violence was giving the resort a terrible name. But she too suggested that foreigners look down on working girls trying to grind out a living and there was trouble as a result.

 

A voice of more reason was sounded by Vichit Aeiosiri who said: "This whole problem needs to be cleared up. Make sure that these people are taken to court - not just fined and let go".

Really? Thai people are capable of unbelievable levels of aggression very swiftly, with minimal, if any provocation. Maybe they should visit Nong Plalai prison and see how many of their countrymen are in jail for exactly this sort of behaviour before making such dumb comments.

It's not hard to imagine what really went down. Most likely the same thing that happens, a lot, to certain people that like to "stroll" along that area at that time.

Looking for a cheap encounter that doesn't require a bar fine. Probably expecting hi end go-go bar quality at cut-rate freelancer prices and then, when they discover the "girl" is really a boy (or used to be) they go off their rocker.
Not the first time a punter has realized that "she" is more "he" than he is and lost his cool. Not the first time a "she" has shown that "she" still has a lot of "he" left in him, regardless of "cup" size.

Years ago someone (on ThaiVisa) once quipped that nothing good ever happens on Beach Road after 2 am. That came about after a number of similar incidents in that area had been reported over a short period of time.

I've walked along both sides of Beach Road during the wee hours of the morning, drunk as a skunk and too stubborn to take a taxi (once I had even decided that I was simply too drunk to try and ride on the back of a moto taxi so I walked from soi 7 to South Pattaya road and then up to TukCom and a couple more blocks to my apartment). Rarely was I ever even approached, let alone propositioned by any of the "attractions" that inhabit that area.
On the very rare occasions that someone did try, I would offer a polite "no thank you" or "mai ow khrap" and that would be it.

Once in awhile I used to leave Walking Street after various venues (like public libraries and tea shops and other classy places) closed and I'd go to the MacDonald's on Beach Road, get some take out and then sit on a bench on the beach side of Beach Road (down from where the old pier used to be) and watch the "activity" that went on in that area.

I swear, there was a lot more entertainment going there every night than there is on those scripted, fake drama shows they try to push as "reality TV".

 

Always a hoot to see an Indian guy trying to barter a freelancer down on price and then notice that he has 4-5 friends hiding around a corner across the street gesturing at which "girls" he should talk to. Of course, there are more than a few sots reeking of spilt beer and puke wandering along like they are hi-so lords, looking down on everyone and making snide comments in the belief that no one will know what they are saying. 
And then there are those that know exactly what is going on there and prefer that kind of interaction. Throw in a few "newbies" that happen along, probably coming out of the bars when they closed but not ready to call it a night yet and not knowing any better (about what to expect).  

Obviously, not everyone that goes to that area (at that time) gets into trouble, but I'm sure that of the ones that do get into trouble, a lot of them bring it on themselves (are the cause of it).

I remember just after it started there were a lot of very unhappy business owners complaining about it and I guess over time things have just gone back to "normal".)

Imagine how boring this place would be without all the "after dark" activities !

According to Stickman there is an online movement of thais who criticize foreigners . Including foreigners that the thais think look down on them. I suppose thais read foreign forums that confirm this.

I'm not sure whether you're usually a farang basher, but your post leads me to believe you might be.

Of course this incident would never have happened had the farang not been in Thailand at the time, so on that basis he is culpable. However it's doubtful the incident ever took place because, as we all know there is no prostitution in LOS.

BTW, the incident took place on Beach Road Jomtien, not Pattaya, about which you have written so eloquently.

That us why Kho Tau had to be Burmese.  All the screaming that Thai's could not do such a thing.  And yet who was the first nominated suspect, later traded for a couple of possibly hapless fall guys?    Yes! Thais can and do, do this sort of thing for as little as spilling a bit of gas on a bike tank.

This story reminds me of an incident I had a few nights ago. Early evening. Not very late at night. Walking down a smaller soi, no sidewalks of course and passed a ladyboy bar. Not a dedicated sex work soi so I wasn't looking for trouble or engagement with sex workers of any flavor. Just a regular soi that had a few bars like so many places in town.  Two of the ladyboys, that certainly looked and sounded THAI to me (sorry, did not check their ID cards) aggressively blocked the road trying to get me interested in their dubious charms and services. My only choices were confront them, hang out with them (yeah, right), or get pushed into passing traffic. I confronted them making it clear they were blocking my way. Both of them got very angry, screaming at me. Yes, I was lucky I wasn't in the news for being a victim of their obvious potential violence.  This kind of crap is happening every day. The news stories of foreigners getting beaten and/or robbed is the tip of iceberg. I am very tolerant of sexual differences and the rights of sex workers to earn an honest living, of course, but don't you (whatever you are) dare block my way and try to push me into traffic! 

 

Got to face the reality when encountering total criminal VIOLENT scum like that. If you're not an easy mark for thievery, or interested in what they're selling (which is likely to be more than you bargained for), you're a bad farang. Not only to such criminals but to many non-criminal Thais as well. What's your use if you're not happy to cough up your money? Why would you even be peacefully walking down ANY street in Pattaya, with your white skin,  full stomach, and a wallet in your pocket, perhaps a nice gold chain?
