South African man arrested with fake passport in Nong Khai

South African man arrested with fake passport

By The Nation

Nong Khai immigration police on Thursday arrested a South African man who had sought a visa for a fake passport.

Nkosinathib Nhlapho, 31, came to the Nong Khai immigration office at 8.30am and asked immigration officers to transfer an entry visa stamp from his own passport to a new one, saying he had received a new passport and wanted to leave the Kingdom.

But police found that the two passports were not identical with 11 points of discrepancies.

Nhlapho claimed he had hired a friend to apply for a new passport for him, but when police checked with the South African Embassy, they learned that the passport might be fake as individuals must apply for their own travel documents.

Nhlapho was detained at an immigration office pending further legal action.

And so he should with a name like that !

I am left scratching my head. If the first passport was real why did he get

a fake second passport.

???2 passports particulars should be identical of course or the new passport has his friends picture n name???

As South Africans get visa on arrival there is no need to try and circumvent the immigration system due to visa constraints. I think this is a case of a person obtaining a fake SA passport and entering Thailand without being caught. This passport however was close to expiry date and had to be replaced. The guy bought a second fake passport but got caught by immigration. Instead of immigration acknowledging that they allowed a person to enter on a fake passport (the first passport with his visa in it) they turned themselves into heroes by catching the guy with the second fake passport. There is also no mention that the person has been confirmed as a SA citizen, he can be from any country, traveling on a fake SA pasport.
