Sing Buri on full alert for flooding

Sing Buri, the first province below the Chao Phraya Dam in Chai Nat, has been put on full alert for flooding as the dam is releasing water downstream at the rate of 2,600 cubic metres per second while rain has continued to fall.

On early Saturday, the water level in the Chao Phraya River in Sing Buri province went up by 25 centimetres.  As a result, at about 4 am the water breached an earth dyke at one spot for about one metre, allowing water to flow into riverside communities, putting them at least 1 metre under water.

Payoon Laemkaew, a member of the Bang Krabue tambon administration organisation, said that judging from the volume of water he doubted the Royal Irrigation Department (RID) was releasing 2,700-2,800 cu/m of water per second, not 2,600 cu/m as earlier said.
