A fire broke out at a mattress factory in Nakhon Pathom province on Sunday morning, sending thick plumes of black smoke into the sky.

More than 20 fire trucks were quickly dispatched to the factory in the Sampran district. However, the firefighters found it difficult to control the blaze that engulfed the warehouse because of the highly flammable material inside.

“Although there was a water pond just behind the factory, the water was not enough to extinguish the blaze,” Pol Colonel Saksee Kaew-eam, the superintendent of Pho Kaew Police Station, said.

Police have cordoned off the area out of concern that the factory structure may collapse.

Traffic has been diverted away from Raikhin Soi 30, where the factory is located.

Saksee said the factory belongs to Lo Ting Kuang Co Ltd, which manufactured bedding under the Lotus brand.

At the time of filing this report, the blaze had been brought under control.
