Pattaya Hotel Bugs

Featured Replies

It seems that many of the hotels in Pattaya suffer from some kind of bug infestation.  In my last stay, I had these little bugs that were somewhat opaque in colour and smaller than ants, running around in a random fashion throughout the room.  As a part of my ritual when I first move into a room, I sprayed the corners of the room and all around the bathroom with a can of bug killer, which usually keeps the room clean and free of bugs for a few weeks.  But this time they returned the following day after spraying and continued to appear despite repeated sprayings.  Hardy little devils.

The source of the problem is farangs leaving behind food and food waste in the garbage within the room.  But I keep the room free of this, except for what I keep in the fridge.  I can no longer stay at this hotel.  It's a shame b/c it is/was good and cheap.  I suppose those two are hard to find anywhere.  But I'm hearing that even high end hotels have these bugs too.  Any common experiences in your stays in Pattaya hotel rooms?

Night Night...don't let the bed bugs bite

Bad news...  Farangs are not the source of the problem.  If they were, every hotel in the west would be infested.

Exactly. How does the OP know it’s not people from other ASEAN countries actions/lack of hygiene?

This is not a good country to live in, if you have a phobia for bugs/insects/snakes/reptiles IMO.

Good luck with your quest.

it wasn't good but it was cheap ....

you have to take the blankets of the bed and apply layers of glad wrap so that you cover the mattress completely, that way there is a barrier between you and the bed bugs hence you won't get bitten.

Bugs are prevalent in any tropical locale because there is no winter to kill off breeding cycles. Go to Florida in the USA and you will be greeted with many old friends and roommates. Roaches are especially prevalent here also due to the food everywhere / anytime nature of the culture. But having worked in the food industry in the US if anyone tells you their restaurant or supermarket does not have them...they are lying. The difference here is nobody seems to care...the supermarketskets here are horrendous especially the ones near Mall food courts...in western countries health inspectors would easily shut them down if they saw them crawling around the prepared foods and employees apparently blind to the fact that they are.

In my apartment, the furniture was apparently made of some untreated wood, and being a humid climate the wood is infested with tiny mold mites that are impossible to get rid of unless you burn the furniture, they are harmless and seem to be immune to pesticides or maybe reproduce so quickly it just seems that way. I have found that these tiny buggers (maybe same as you have) hate vinegar so spraying a bit of vinegar around will keep them at bay, which is what I do a couple of times a week.

Take care its a dangerous place Pattaya.

Hotel bugs,  will eat you alive.

The mountain of plastic bottles on the beach,  could suffocate you.

The mounds of cigarette butts will trip you over.

The veg from the markets may kill you,   with the chemicals in them.

The police are out to get you every minute, of the daylight hours.

Scary stuff !!!!!!!   :stoner:

Last time I stayed in a hotel there I was woken at 2.30 am by some women shouting screaming and banging on the door.

I handled it for about 20 minutes but eventually I had to let her out.

No, these particular bugs are of the species Cimex condomerus. Please dispose of your condoms properly, gents, rather than drunkenly throw them on the floor. The maids in the hotels in Soi 6 stay on top of these bugs, so I suggest OP check into a hotel there.

I understand what the OP is talking about they are very quickly moving small ant like bugs.  I have seen them in many hotels.  They are harmless but just annoying.

Usually they are seem to be attracted to water, not filth or food waste.

Spraying helps but keeping counter tops, sinks, etc clean of water seems to keep them mostly away.

Know the problem. Friendship sells cheap ant traps with the food/poison in a little baggy. Don't use the trap, just dish out a bit of the "food" in a few strategic positions and where they usually show......Got my very clean kitchen totally free of these little "sugar-ant" monsters within a day...

Good luck. It's the tropics.....MS>

Yes, they’re ants, some species of ants are really tiny. They are often drawn to water during hot spells.... they need to drink too! Ask Thai people, they recommend putting a small saucer of water on the floor outside your room, I laughed too, tried it though and yes, it works.

We had them suddenly appear from the sink overflow grid in the kitchen sink.

A few squirts of chaindrite ( spelling )? fixed it.
