Conor McGregor’s fights are helping to create a booming industry for Bangkok bars, writes Jon Nutt for Fox Sports Asia.

 

When I grew up, Sunday morning was a time to go to church. For others, Sunday morning may represent a chance to relax, read the newspaper, maybe do some domestic chores, go to IKEA, or sleep off a serious hangover.

 

But Sunday morning, traditionally, has never been a busy time for bars and pubs. Yet in Bangkok that is changing and it is largely due to the popularity of MMA, boxing, and an Irishman who goes by the name of Conor McGregor.

 

The biggest fights invariably take place on a Saturday night in Las Vegas but are broadcast all over the world. That means fighters typically step inside the ring or cage at around 11am on a Sunday morning Thai time and entertainment venues in Bangkok are cashing in. Sunday-Funday? Instead of dinner and a show, it’s brunch and shots to the face.
