A friend who is a former pulmonary physician has suggested I get a chest x-ray.  I've had a lingering cold that won't quite go away.  He want's me to rule out any possibility of fluid build-up in the lungs which can lead to pneumonia as well as it being a symptom of congestive heart disease.

In the past I've used Sukhumvit Hosp. in Ekkamai for routine inquiries but they have raised their rates dramatically in the last year or so and are no longer the reasonably priced alternative they once were.

Aside from the 5 star options (Bumrungrad, BNH, ect) what would be a hospital convenient to  public transportation that has good X-Ray services and a decent radiology dept to read it?

You can try Chulalongkorn near Lumpinee park for a public option. If you want a private hospital and faster service then Samitivej is a good option, I use the branch in Thonburi which is a 10 minute walk from the Wongiyan Wai BTS or 2 minute cab ride.

Bangkok Christian, on Silom next to Patpong I.

St Louis Hospital, on Sathorn.

Both short walks from BTS or MRT.

Both would be reasonable rates but x-ray should be read by a staff doctor rather than depend on radiologist IMHO.  But you should be able to find good doctors at either with a bit of checking or even asking several staff as if asked they are likely to provide more than the next available is answer (that would normally be who you see).

AFAIK Samitivej would be up in the higher price range.

Urupong Medical centre. If they are the cheapest for MRI stands to reason they would be for chest X-Ray. Some years ago I paid 7,000 baht for an MRI of my knee.

I suggest your friend writes down what imaging he wants in doctor speak!

Samitivej will indeed cost as much or more than Sukhumvit Hospital (probably more)

And indeed, you can and should consult a doctor and nit rely in radiologist report. Anyplace can do an Xray, the trick is to have it interpreted properly in light of your specific medical history and symptoms.

St Louis and Bkk Chrsitian are both good suggestions.  As you seem to live out that way, might also like to consider Sikarin Hospital in Bang Na.

If you want the least expensive option of all and do not mind long wiits, Chulalongkhorn Hospital.

If you by any chance haven't had a physical check up in past two years or so, all check up packages include chest xray so you could get the xray as well as basic blood work and physical exam and doctor visit all for about 2-3,000 bht at the private hospitals mentioned, less at Chula, depending on package selected. (If you are old enough for heart disease to be suspected, be sure to get package that includes lipid panel).

Thank you for all the specific suggestions.  I will probably go with Bangkok Christian because of it's convenience and good reputation.

I had a triple bypass a year ago, at which time I was given a comprehensive battery of tests but as it has been a year, a general check-up wouldn't be a bad idea.

Cost me about 220 Bhatt, last week at Chulalongkorn, they have several X-ray locations on the very large site, little waiting time, catch you need one of their forms signed by a doctor, and that takes time
