Policemen praised for push-ups punishment

Two traffic policemen in Loei have been widely praised by Facebook users for punishing five teen motorcyclists with push-ups instead of a fine for riding without helmets.

 

The two policemen stopped the five teens at a checkpoint in front of the Mitr Phuluang sugar factor on Maliwan Road in Wang Sapung district at 4pm on Thursday.

 

A video of the two policemen ordering the five teens to do ten push-ups was posted and shared on several Loei groups’ Facebook pages.

 

The posts drew comments in praise of the two policemen for not demanding hefty fines from the young riders, who might not have able to afford them anyway.

At these checkpoints, have boxes of crash helmets. Anyone stopped for not wearing a helmet gets fined (as per the law), which pays for the purchase of one of the helmets, which is then given to them, job done.

If they are in a crash after getting the helmet, if wearing it, they can avoid serious injury.

Push ups are no deterrent, and means they will carry on riding, without helmet. 

Should throw them in jail and let them out when they have completed 500 push ups. That will take them a few days !!

10?  That's a minor inconvenience for breaking the law. 

 

What do the parents have to do if their child dies in a crash because they didn't teach their child to wear a helmet - 15 pushups?

10 push ups wow  The idea is to save lives and that is why they must wear helmets Just shake my head They are turning this law into a bloody big joke. Sorry officers no praise from me and when one of those kids dies because he/she was not wearing a helmet we can all do 10 push -up at funeral What you think?

Saw the clip on tv today, did not look like lads who could not pay a fine..

500 push ups takes a few days...  I highly doubt it. 

Brainless Thais praising the police. Doing 10 push ups is hardly going to deter people wearing crash helmets. The Thai mind works in mysterious ways....

What’s all this crap about ‘might not be able to afford it’  that’s the whole point, hit em where it hurts, the wallet, make it a deterrent, it should work particularly well in Thailand where money is no 1, it  even comes before family

Creative punishment. This ways is reminding drivers are more careful when they join in traffic.

The police are supposed to govern according to the law, not according to the rule of stupidity

"Policemen in Loei praised for upholding the law" would make a better headline!

this should set precedent.  the fine for smoking

on the beach may be waived if the offender is

able to do 5 pushups.

Fine the drivers, and if they cannot pay seize and sell off their bikes. Simple solution.

Push ups are not punishment  for this kind of activity. Shame on the police.

Ok the cops think they are doing a good thing After kids finish push-ups what goes through there heads? Are we going to wear a helmet next time? Ha ha its all a bloody big joke to them What about the parents? Should they not take some of the blame because why are they not making those kids wear helmets? Oh well what is the old saying " Live for today because tomorrow may never come"  Is that what Thailand calls those guys walking around in brown uniforms? Police Hey i just thought of a way to attract more tourists  They should spread the word if you break a traffic law in Thailand no need to pay a fine 10 push-ups sufficent 

I recently saw three cars with cops pull up followed by teens on bikes pull into Burapha park. Asked for ID then made to do push ups and stand in file. Yesrs ago on the expressway at Dao Kanong saw the aame with with a guy in hia 20s

Same Same. How many motorcyclists do you see riding with helmets in the basket, or ask them where is your helmet, answer at home.
