Good Morning TV'ers !!

Water heater in Bathroom decided to stop working yesterday,  Test LED and reset LED both illuminate when pushed but when turning tap on the "on" light does not so  for ease of installation I purchased the identical unit.

Swapped them over this morning and new unit acts the same.

There is a 30 amp switch above the unit, is it possible it has partially died (power still getting through to illuminate reset and test LED's).

Any idea ?

Annoying when that happens isn't it?

Low water pressure, bunged up shower head, blocked mesh filter?

unit is spanking new so not bunged up.

Have both tank water with pump and mains fed town water, just swapped between them and that made no difference.

Do you have a multimeter?

It is worth checking the voltage at the switch both with the shower operating and with it off.

Also try operating the switch a few times.

I do have a cheapo multimeter but not sure if it does mains power, what setting would I be looking for ?

switch has been on and off about 100 times this morning !!.

AC volts, 600V range (or anything bigger than 250V that the meter does).

Take great care.

here's a pic 600 to the left or right of off ?

Power looks ok, water assumed to be ok.

Have you checked the incoming flexi tube? They can collapse and restrict the flow.

It's quite possible that you have actually got a duff unit from new, it's not unknown for retailers to put customer returns back on the shelf

Do you have strong water flow (although cold) from shower head?  There could be blockage in pipe causing water pressure to be too low to activate the heater switch.  But if water flow is good than that would not likely be the problem.

Yeah head pressure is ok and the flexible feed pipe is new.

The "ON" LED is not  illuminating, but am sure the old unit it was(although water not heating).... am going to swap them back over and check this.

If new unit is DOA I hope HomePro are easy to deal with !!

The ON is normally the heater indication - the "reset led" stumps be however - you are pushing the manual reset (normally a push up plastic at bottom of enclosure) to reset the RCCD?

Yes, HomePro are very good on returns, you will likely need a Thai speaker to make life for everyone easier.

Take your passport, they often want ID particularly if you want a refund to your credit card.

Has a "test" button which illuminate's the red LED and the "Reset" button turns off the red LED.

According to the manual it is functioning ok in the regard.

Good to hear, is a passport needed if I only want to swap  to another unit ?... I ask as I lent my car to a friend for a few days and forgot my passport is in the glovebox.

Your Thai speaker will have their ID card, that should do.

Also a Thai driving licence should work (it did at Makro).

and the dumb ass of the week award goes to me !!

I was being so careful in making sure I wired it correctly as I don't like the idea of becoming dead I took no notice of the water connections and had it back to front......the water heater does work after all !!

Seem to recall doing that once - bet you don't do again.

With the current state of my memory, I have to always make a list and would check it off that the new heater was installed!  If I didn't and left the room for a few minutes and then came back, I would probably reinstall the defective one! :post-4641-1156694572:

this is hilarious!...I've done all those dumbass things too; confusing suction with discharge, reinstalling a defective unit thinking it was the new one I just bought, etc...not necessarily on water heating units...

dumbasses love company...

I may not be the sharpest tool in the box but do hope I could still tell the difference between a new unit straight out of the box and an old unit that has been on the shower wall for a few years. :shock1:

"Crossy"  Do you get bulk discount for all those t-shirts? :whistling:

:cheesy:

Actually they kind of look the same in most homes if they receive minimal care - the white plastic holds up well.  I have units many years old that look new.
