As Pattaya welcomes thousands of extra Boat Show visitors a familiar problem still plagues the resort... Snatch theft

Sophon Cable TV reported on the latest case when a group of five Russian tourists were happily taking a roadside selfie on an iPhone.

Mrs Elena Sidorova, 23, was admiring the result of the selfie when a motorcycle snatch thief grabbed the 20,000 baht iPhone 6 from her grasp and made off into the night.

Police arrived on Sai 2 road in Central Pattaya quickly and using a locator app were able to ascertain that the phone was still nearby.

But the signal soon died and they were unable to locate the thief.

But they promised that they would study CCTV footage and the thief would soon be apprehended.

Sophon didn't mention the story from earlier in the week that more than 50% of CCTV cameras in Pattaya are not working.

Neither did they report on the crime suppression drive that was supposed to clear Pattaya of miscreants for the Ocean Marina Boat Show being held until November 22nd that is said to be attracting 6,000 visitors.

You'd think that TAT will mentioned this problems in their glossy brochures

and road's shows abroad, or the Pattaya police will put big signs warning

tourists to mined of those pesky criminals, lady-boys and all,

alas, this is joke that after so many 'crackdowns' they have really

cracked nothing...

tourists to

Not take selfies ostentatiously;

not rent a motor bike lest they run into a road block;

not wear a bikini;

not smoke within 500 metres of the beach;

not report any crimes unless they can pay the police to do their jobs.

No room in the brochures - space taken by photos of the nifty new "dancing water" at Bali Hi.   So sorry.

After decades of similar stories it would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad.

Pattaya used to be lovely, and then somewhere around the time the black uniformed TPVs appeared it all went so wrong.

Someone should do a study on Pattaya to give to the world as what NOT to do when running a city. I can't think of a single thing that Pattaya city hall has done right since the late 90s.

These LB snatch thieves could be cleared from Pattaya in an instant if it wasnt for the cops being "in" on the nightly necklace/I-phone/wristwatch proceeds.....think about it..!!

LBs don't normally do snatch thieving on m'bikes- they do pickpocketing while "hugging" the unfortunate victim, and they are really good at it. Don't put your wallet in a back pocket.

I always run when they try to "hug" me, and I mean actually run.

You must be a very handsum man. Never had a LB try and hug me. Thank God for that!
