New reception house opens for Bangkok homeless

By The Nation

The Social Development and Human Security Ministry on Friday opened a new reception house for homeless and underprivileged people in Bangkok’s Huay Kwang district.

Social Development and Human Security Minister Pol General Adul Saengsingkaew chaired the opening ceremony of the Ban Mitr Maitree Si Mum Muang Bangkok Huay Kwang house.

Adul said the new house for 30 homeless people was the second opened in Bangkok so far. The first opened in Sai Mai district and can house some 20 homeless people.

The ministry is planning two more reception houses for the homeless in Bangkok – in Onnuj district to care for 200 homeless people and in Thonburi for 50 people.

Adul said the ministry had earlier opened 10 reception houses for the homeless and underprivileged around the country for migrants and the poor to take temporary shelter.

The houses also provide some basic medical help and advice to the poor.

The 10 houses have been operating from October last year and have so far cared for some 3,300 people, most of them seeking temporary shelter, Adul said.
