Isaan Holidays

Featured Replies

Does anyone know about an Isaan holiday or something called something like "bung mung fei"? with firerockets ??

What is it and when is it?

Does anyone have a link to a Isaan calender with discibtion of holidays in english (or danish!)?

The place to go is Yasothon although rockets are set off all over Issan, Yasothon has the best IMHO display.

Discussed earlier on this board...

This site has some pictures from a smaller Bung Fai event within Roi-Et, the festival at Yasothon attracts a few thousand people and the rockets are MUCH bigger. (( The parent web site is very good by the way. ))

The festival is laced with inuendo and is tied with bringing the rains for rice planting. Those rocketees who's rockets don't work too well get dumped in the mud. The successful rockets travel straight and true, the winning rocket goes the highest.

I didn't find the date for this year's rocket weekend but it will be over the weekend of 9-11th or 16-18th May, the day to go is the Sunday.

Thanks to Cuban for a very informative answer.

Is it the same date in all cities?

If so, does anyone know when in Kuchinarai, Kalasin?
