Don't check valve clearance? Are you sure?

Well I don't bother I know when something needs to be done just by riding the bike.

I did check them when I first got the bike and they were in tolerants, its a dam awkward job so I'll wait until the bike tells me or get a certain number of miles under the belt. ????

As stated in the post. The shims were changed as it was due to be checked.   That is done for a reason.   It's not like waiting for the brakes to fail before fixing

My bike sounded fine.  No issues at all.  Valve clearance was too tight that my slimmest feeler gauge would barely pass.  Good luck with waiting for your bike. Tight valves are much worse and might sound quieter than lose tappy valves that won't cause an issue so long as within manufacturers tolerance.

And to be clear to prevent tit for tat.

You said "If it ain't broke".

I will leave it there.

Well what I said its my reasonable behaviour towards how I treat bikes.

My twin cams have a long mileage interval check and tap per tap fine when cold and quiet down when warm.

As I said they are within tolerance I reckon another 4000 miles unless I get signs and with the quality of oils used these days I wouldn't be surprised to see them still within tolerance when checked next.

Just got back from another runaround in Nan.

Would recommend Nan for motorbike trips.

Needs another 2 or 3 days trips to see the many mountain roads and scenery.

Off to the Phetchabun area  and roads beyond for a 3 day bike ride out.

I rang a few friends and said lets go for a ride, they said it's too cold so I went alone and had a good ride.

Fork seals ordered, left fork leaking,  the suspension has had a hard time on Road 11 out of CM and part of Road 1,  been on good concrete roads Nan way but CM absolutely the worst.

Fork seals is a job I hate. ????

Based on that rear the old fireblade is begging to see some corner action.

NGK is alone in making a larger number a colder plug

So a CR10E is actually colder than a CR9E

Wasn't aware of that. Thanks for sharing. Just assumed NGK numbering for hot / cold range was universal for plugs. pays to alsway look up specs.

The chicken strip gets smaller on the left ???? than right, I'd push it more with a set up on a trustworthy track surface but not a road surface.

Can't afford to come off these days and it needs new suspension, also suspensions set at its softest to accommodate different road surfaces.

Im just a part-time tourist visitor. Took me just over 10 years to clock 100,000 Kms.

Very good.

Have you had any major maintenance items.?

Rings.?

A photo would be swell.

You have forgotten miles Papa.

It's only done 62,000 miles no major problem for a 250 Honda.

This is my maintenance program for CBR250R.

Lube the chain every 500 kms. Clean and lube the chain as needed.

Change the oil and filter every 5,000 KMs.

Replace the Air filter every 15,000 Kms or so. As needed.

Brake pads last about 40,000-60,000 KMs. Depends on how many Track Days.

Replaced the chain and sprockets @ 77,000 KMs. Still had plenty of adjustment left. Could go 90,000- 100,000 KMs.

Fork seals and fork oil done at 65,000 kms.

Spark plug replaced once @ 40,000 kms. Spent extra on newer Iridium plug. Maybe time to check it again.

Replaced the Battery several times. Thailand heat is not friendly to batteries.

Replaced the clutch cable once. Around 70,000 Kms.

And new tires as needed. Currently running Michelin Pilot Street Radials with 31,000 KMs. Nearly down to the wear mark and will be replaced. Love these tires.

The valve clearances checked once at 36,000 Kms. Don't remember if I changed the shims. Have to look it up.

That's about it. The engine has never been apart other than a valve check. Original piston and rings.

These little 24 HP CBRs are a real blast to ride and VERY cheap to maintain. The best Bang for the Baht for me.

The only modification done is installed twin horns on a relay. The dogs do take notice. 555.

Hope this helps.

Today- Struggling to source or even find new premium tyres for a  Honda SH150i ( currently Phuket) .

100/80 -16 front AND

120/80 -16 rear.

Anyone on here can help? Tried multiple local shops, Lazada , struggling especially with the 100/80 -16.

Ideally Michelins/Pirellis/ Bridgestone but consider anything premium.

Can find this, but only the rear size!
